That's according to sources familiar with the matter speaking to Bloomberg, which reports there have been production issues with the upcoming console's custom-designed system-on-chip. Production yields for the part have sunk as low as 50%, which means Sony is unable to produce the number of consoles it originally plans. Launch for both consoles isn't overwhelmingly great. What I would say is that even if fans can't get their hands on consoles this side of Christmas, at least there is Cyberpunk 2077 and hopefully the Mass Effect trilogy remake. There's plenty of great gaming before we move to next gen. EDIT: Originally Sony were due to produce 5-6 million but increased it to 11 million (due to covid and the success of gaming industry during this time) but now cut it by 4 million which still is an increase over the original 5-6 million. Jason Posted September 16, 2020 Author Share Posted September 16, 2020 I'd be veeeeeeeeery curious what the price of that would be if it's legit, a 2tb NVMe SSD with those speeds would probably cost $400-$500 on it's own if you bought it for a PC. More rumours in the past 24 hours of a $449/$400 price point for the PS5 and PS5 Digital, if Sony hit $400 again that would be huge I think. Makes the Series S look less interesting when a $100 more gets you the fully fledged next-gen experience. Wonder if we'll see the rumoured Series V announced soon? The PS+ Collection is interesting too, for a while now I've thought the next gen Xbox's strength is that PS4 owners can jump over, buy Games Pass and go play all the games they missed but the PS+ Collection is going to be offering the same for current-gen Xbox owners, it's a really good collection of games. Well surely they weren't going to make you pay the same amount for the discless version, otherwise it'd be quite pointless. But I agree with the rest of the post. I'd rather pay more for a disc version than going full digital. NEVER going full digital, I f*cking hate it. Well I know I won't be buying nothing till 2022. First 1-2 years are sh*t. No point to upgrade for me at the moment. Also where's the info about the UI or the new features these consoles are gonna bring to the table. Yes there's the SSD, Ray Tracing and the ability to run games at once(like that feature is anything useful lol) but it's nothing compared to last gen's leap. Or maybe they haven't shown us(with 2 months to go though). I just don't feel like we're jumping to the next generation. It's pretty much like upgrading your PC now. They're not innovating like last gen IMO. I haven't even seen any game that truly shows a jump from this gen's graphics to the next. What the hell is going on? I'm just not feeling that "Console Magic" anymore. That feeling of owning a uniquely made custom gaming machine and that sweet comfort. Maybe it's time to move to PC. Can still play my old PS4 games, sell my games and buy second hand games. In the long term you are saving more money than that 100 euro you think you're saving when you buy it. Really bad launch titles, with big games like Spiderman and Horizon Forbidden West releasing on PS4 too, like why would you even buy a whole new console if you can play that one game on PS4 as well? Visually fantastic game meets stiff character animations, pretty much. Also, wait what, I heard Spider-Man was cross-gen but Horizon 2 is too? That's a big oof from me tbh. So much for these games being made with the power of the PS5 in mind lol. They'll look pretty and load fast but won't be taking advantage of that SSD from a gameplay point of view. Turns out that my belief that it'll be a few years before we see games really take advantage of the new SSD's is right, just not for the reasons I expect.
