Apparently those white “wings” can be taken off and/or replaced, customized. I wonder if you can use the console without those wings? It would make it a lot smaller and more discreet.

People were defending the creator on Twitter so who knows in the end. I think it flopped already because this isn't the type of game people expect for a PS5 reveal anyways.

Glad they went with something different, instead of that same old squarish black box again. Due to it being the fifth installment, I kinda fished they had paid an "homage" to the first one and at least made it gray or something. This kind of futuristic design is really not my cup of tea, but then I saw this wood grain photoshop and it looks exactly like a vintage art sculpture! (Woodie controller looks awful, tho) I will probably cover it with wood grain sticker sheet, unless it begins to work as a heat insulation and overheats the system immediately 

 

 

I'm most excited for the controller and it's "haptic" feedback, etc. functions. I've always thought you could do so much more with the controller in sense and feel wise, so I'm glad they finally take it into consideration. Hopefully game developers find creative ways to use those new functions.

Built-in mic... yeah, that's going to be awesome. A public lobby where everyone has a mic, what could possibly go wrong? Now I also feel the social pressure to communicate with people during the heists etc, I can't use the "no mic" -excuse anymore, great...

You could always just say it broke. That's what I would do anyway. Say something like "Yeah I dropped my controller and it caused the wiring that connects to the mic to break." That happened with a phone of mine so it's plausible that it could happen with a controller too. 

 

I personally hope it would still have a headphone jack built in, because if it doesn't, I guess I ain't talking or hearing anyone anymore.

It's stupid is what it is.

 

No doubt raises the cost of controllers while most likely lowering the average quality of microphones in online games. Unless it is really good at blocking out background noise, controller rumble and button presses it's going be bloody stupid.

 

I really, really don't get the logic behind it when they already included a dedicated mic by standard in the box.

It's literally easier to run PC version of GTA IV on PS4 than a PS3 version. In fact, you can do that yourself without any help from Sony. Just jailbreak your PS4, install Linux on it, then run PC version of GTA IV under Steam Proton. Granted, that will prevent your PS4 from playing PS4 games, but after you get PS5 and start playing all your PS4 games on that machine, you can turn your PS4 into a Linux box.

Well just a few cents worth from me but the PS5 reveal managed to convince me to buy another console. 

 

Gran Turismo 7 reveal was all that it took since that's my main game series at the moment plus a few other bits like the new Horizon game but am going to be very select in what I purchase for the

PS5 as funds are not so readily available as they once were for me and with the PS4 backwards compatibility I can sell my old console for a change

 

My biggest wish is that the quality control aspect of PS5 is better than the PS4 because some of the games that have gone up on the store recently seem to be very questionable in terms of the overall presentation

and do people really still go for 8-bit graphics in this day and age?

 

Anyhow's I can't wait for the pre-order's to come up for the console!

Surprisingly he didn't go into details about comparing the PS5 to the Xbox series X by saying along the lines of "PS5 will lose this upcoming generation due to it's poor hardware and failure to do anything above 30 FPS and the Xbox series X will be the more superior console". When bad mouthing a console when it comes to console wars, they also usually take the time to say how one console is superior over the other. I couldn't really give less than a f*ck about the console wars, gaming consoles are scaled down "computers" in a box with a locked down operating system and the devices purpose is for "gaming & media", the hardware is mostly the same and or on par with each other with perhaps some slight differences, differences being each gaming console comes from a different company, runs a different OS, has first party exclusive etc. 

 

If he wants to see "worst video game console ever made" then I'd like to point him to each & every Chinese knockoff console, you know those are so bad when it even struggles to emulate NES titles and resorts to using pirated games.

This is a bit I think most people are missing. The trend started with original release of PS4 and XBOne, and has only gotten more pronounced. The graphics libraries for PS4 ans XBOne are a little different, so there are still some platform-specific optimizations, but at CPU level, we've stopped distinguishing between Playstation and XBox optimizations. The original PS4 and XBOne still had some differences in how they handled chache, but I'm not even seeing that on Pro versions, and best I can tell, it's not a distinction worth noting on the next gen either. There might be some differences in how the PS5 and SX will handle storage, and it sounds like they might have different balance between RT and traditional GPU cores, but I don't think either team has shown actual numbers yet, so hard to say. Either way, it looks like core engine will run identical on either console. There might be some visual differences in how things get rendered, but GPU just hasn't been the main bottleneck to performance, and again, it's another thing I don't expect to change with next gen. Most games will be CPU bound, so if PS5 can't handle 30FPS in a particular game, I don't see how SX will do any better. There will be plenty of reasons to chose one platform or another, but FPS isn't going to be one of them.

Exactly, this is probably a point I should've mentioned. It could've been the other way around and I'm sure out there somewhere there is someone saying the same about the series x. But again is it a dealbreaker to me? No, not at all. 

 

A higher frame rate is always nice but to be honest when it comes to gaming for myself, if the hardware  & the game can maintain a solid 30FPS without stuttering and resorting to a visual slideshow then I'm happy, the extra visuals and graphics detail will always be satisfying but I don't need a solid 60FPS to happy.

 

I do also see where people come from, this is a new console so there is these expectations & I can understand but to call the entire console a disaster because it's sticking to a specific framerate (Of which we don't even know if it is fully the case because we don't even have access to said consoles & it's titles yet) is just a bit premature if you ask me. I'm pretty sure we went through story just before the Xbox one & Playstation 4 were due to release and the same will happen again with the PS6 and next next generation Xbox.  At this point all I'm going to say is these people are looking for rocks to kick.

Agreed, if people want to get their panties in a twist over the framerate of all things then I'd probably say a gaming console isn't for them and a custom built gaming desktop is more for them as it will then give them more freedom & customization options.

Back to the HDMI/TV connection.

 

Now after all the game trailer and knowing that the PS5 supports HMDI 2.1.

Do you think HDMI 2.1 will be necesearry to get the maximum of the PS5?

I do have a quite good TV and I don´t want to replace it. It`s an 63" 4K SONY from 2017. It does suppoert HMDI 2.0b.

 

For all which didn´t know:
HDMI 2.1 : 8K 120fps 48Gb/s(correct me if I am wrong)

HDMI 2.0b : Max. 4K 60fps 18Gb/s

 

4K 60fps would be okay for me, but it´s te limit of HMDI 2.0b, so not sure how it will handle all the information.

but what I'd still really like to see for the Playstation 5 is a web browser that isn't a complete piece of trash, I understand the web browser is a very small part of gaming consoles and is only included in for the sake of it but if the DVR makes a return, I'd like to see it so I can backup clips to Google drive for example without needing to transfer the clips & screenshots via USB to another computer. This is a pipedream along with easier ways to share clips and screenshots but I can still dream about it right? 

 

I think what is more likely through is Sony will create a cloud service and you'll get access to it if you have PS+ and you'll be able to backup screenshots & clips from the PS5 to Sony's own cloud service. As soon as your membership expires you can still download files but not upload.  IIRC there wasn't any way to backup clips from the PS4's DVR to Sony's network, I think it was only for saves but I could be wrong.

I haven't been the biggest fan of PS controllers since getting my hands on a Xbox one back in the day. But I must say, I love the more chunky PS5 controller. Aside from it looking great, I imagine it would feel great in my hands.

I'm the opposite, I never liked the Xbox controller's layout. It always seemed weird that the analog sticks were off set to each other rather than directly across where it felt more natural to me.
