luisniko
Extremely high-end custom SSD When it's broken, you're f*cked. Chances are buying whole new console or their overprice custom SSD, going back to the same Vita MC hole. PS4 compatibility is nice, it makes transition to PS5 while waiting for the actual games from third parties to come out, though it's obviously wiser to wait for the upgraded version. And all I'm hoping for is an option to sacrifice 8K, 4K bs for framerate with in-game options that enhance graphical aspect (shadow density, light quality etc) Rafae S

Actually, replacing an SSD is more costly than replacing a HDD, but in every other way it's exactly the same. It will (almost definitely) be a case of open lid, unscrew a couple of screws, slide out drive and you're ready for the new one. Yes, you'll need to format it with encryption for that console, meaning you'll have to download all your digital games again, but you'll lose nothing. Anyway, I'm not planning on breaking mine Syrens and NightmanCometh96

I'm pretty sure that's not what he means. From the article it sounds like the SSD in the PS5 is something that isn't available to consumers at the moment, so if it does break we can't get a 1:1 replacement. Guest
Fingers crossed PS5 backwards compatibility will be physical and digital. I fear PSNow will be our only option to play old games. I'd like to see a modular console. I'm sick of buying revisions or paying for repairs

MostWantedMVP
I hope we get proper PS1, PS2 and PS3 backwards compatibility. If they start a program like Xbox has with enhanced features (Like RDR in 4K, and the ability to use your discs). That would be the icing on the cake. Jason
Supposedly reliable sources saying that the next Xbox is more powerful. Oof. Gonna be a spicy contest for next-gen I think, and it'll be a win-win for console gamers. Last gen Xbox shat the bed so hard that Sony just ended up strolling out the gate. luisniko
If the rumor is true, I think Microsoft is keeping the competition tight. They are going by the way of laptop is selling, which is using spec grading. This way people can just buy suitable to what they need and their budget. It seems Sony will just keep releasing one spec at a time that they will improvise along the years before hitting the Slim and probably also Pro. Jason
Yea I think multiple console variants is likely. MS just released a discless Xbox One, which I reckon they'll do with the next Xbox. We might see something like a discless version, base version and an X version for the next Xbox at launch. Microsoft are also heavily involved in cloud gaming and have their own service to rival Google's, so we might even see a much cheaper online only Xbox that uses the cloud to boost the visual quality. Jason
60fps should really be the standard but developers should be giving players the choice between 30fps with better visuals and 60fps. Did they really say that? I doubt very much that they'll put any M.2 drive in a console that's meant to be at least somewhat affordable. I bet it'll be a SATA3 drive. 8K support is just as far as the HDMI spec goes. The Xbox One X already supported HDMI 2.1 and 8K in theory via a software update. Games won't run in that res though. Literally the only way it could be considered faster than current PC tech. But by the time the PS5 comes out, pcie 4.0 will already be the new standard on PCs DEALUX
