Little Bear

Congrats Galactic and nice Theme for this MOTW.

Kind of a simple theme but it shouldn't be too hard to make a mission out of it.

Don't worry about it, it was almost a long time for me as well.

My vote goes to @VikingEVM. His mission was far more aesthetically pleasing, with amazing usage of some of the objects that SIZZZ's add-on provides us with, and an engaging storyline and cutscenes. The only thing I didn't like much was that the mission was a bit too long for my taste. ☺️

@GKHEAT, you did very well too, I enjoyed the mission a lot, especially the gunfight at the start. However, your story was less engaging than Viking's, and so was your overall presentation. Additionally, there was also a bug where an interior didn't load:

Both missions were fun, and well done to both designers! Viking gets my vote this week.

I played through both missions, and as usual I'm going to write down my thoughts on both of them here!

Spoiler

The mission is not inherently bad. I liked playing through it and I'd say it's a really good mission. The issue though is that there are a lot of minor flaws that when playing through make you more annoyed as you play the mission.

The background of the mission is not explained, you are just thrown into the battlefield with no explanation of why you're there, what you're stealing, and from whom are you stealing it. The very first lines of dialogue are very... weird, with an Asian guy saying nibber to a guy so white he could get a sunburn from an LED lamp. The shooting part was also very awkward to play through, the enemies are not marked, they are all over the place, with some hiding in places you can't normally see, and some running around the entire town (though gta sa's actor ai is to blame for that, not you). It is never said in the mission that Green and his buddy don't have much time, yet there is a timer for some reason..?

The armored enemy with the shotgun is just a cheap attempt at making the mission difficult. He just spawns in front of you with no warning, sometimes killing you with no time to react or even take cover, but often times just soaking a few bullets then falling to the ground like every other npc that dares look at the player the wrong way. The transition between shooting part and hydra part is also done suddenly, his friend has a hydra, a military fighter jet with enormous destructive power, parked at the mountainside waiting for his buddy Max McMaxyface to steal the diamond/drug cache/money/insert valuable object from the bank/vault/mafia/insert place holding the object.

The checkpoint you have to pass through in the hydra part is not only redundant, but also unnecessary, inessential, expendable and superfluous. Oh yeah, it is also very tiny and took me a lot of time to finally get to. Rest of it was short with few enemies to kill, just enough to qualify for this MOTW I guess...

Spoiler

A typical mission from VikingEVM, the battles were intense though as others have said before very drawn out, and since it is a flying mission and we all know how GTA SA handles these, the slightest mistakes can make you die, fail and have to restart the mission all over again. (Which I may or may not have done... 4 times..)

The introduction of the mission does a good enough job at setting it's theme, tone, and to establish the characters you'll be seeing throughout the mission. The problem with the characters is that none of them have any distinct personality traits, they all mostly talk like emotionless robots. I understand that it is a military mission, but that doesn't excuse the dialogue from looking like one from those old pro-war propaganda shooters made by navy seals to promote themselves.

The biggest issue though is definitely the enemies with rocket launchers. The rockets follow you and it is impossible to shake them off in the slow helicopter-like mode. If you use the plane mode, you can't aim for sh*t and you'll just overshoot then hit a cliff and die (ok ok I only did this one 2 times though, chill). I like how the state of the battlefield changes as you progress through the mission, with the ally and enemy forces moving in real time. I see the new objects were very useful here as well.

I liked Viking's mission better, so that's what I'm voting for. Good luck to both participants!

Viking is gone (rip in pace), new Viking is a clone made to replace him because he still has some unfinished business (*cough* his missionpacks *cough*)

I hear you, actually this mission was a pain in the ass to make because of the Hydra's handling (especially in vertical/helicopter mode it handles like ass), the mission was tailored to my familiarity with Hydra (been flying Hydras in this game and SA:MP for like 13 years 🙈). I felt like putting emphasis on the character wasn't necessary as the focus was almost only on the battle itself, with the characters' sole purpose being explaining how things are going and setting the tone of the missions. Regarding the rockets, the mission was supposed to have RPGs instead of Heatseekers but i mostly used the plane mode and RPGs weren't a problem at all so i felt the mission would've been too boring. No problem, i will patch it as soon as possible 👀

Viking is such a genius that when the DYOM website got hacked, he changed his main account's password to something ultra-complicated and then he forgot the password he just put lmao (yes *cough* Blockbuster *cough* plus a new project i'm writing right now *cough*)
