Payout from failling headhunter

Why does headhunter still pay you a lot even if you run out of time?

How is the money actually calculated?

For example;

I kill 3 targets, and let the 4th one survive until the timer runs out.

And the game will still give me the almost  full amount of money, (20k)

Isn't that kinda counterproductive, like why should I worry about killing all the 4 targets if the game would still give me almost the full amount anyway?

I only tested this by killing 3 and letting the 4th stay stay alive. So forgive me if I mixed something here.

Could anyone shed me some light on this?

Could be based on the amount of time you spend on the job. I haven't actually tested this with leaving targets alive, as I can't resist finishing the job...but it might work somewhat like the Terrorbyte Client Jobs. Contact Missions will also award some extra cash the longer you take to complete it.

+1m of time taken: +$500

So that extra cash might build up to make up for the extra time taken, as Headhunter can typically be done in about 5m with any weaponized aircraft, or an Oppressor.

I'm not 100% sure that this works the same way as I tested with Client Jobs, but it makes sense and is likely to play out the same as a typical freemode job.

Because you also cannot do anything else until the time has gone down.

If you wanna stare at the sky until the timer runs out when you could have finished it in three minutes and started a Terrorbyte mission then more power to you.

I think they fixed the client job issue.

Once I had the diamonds glitch either behind a wall or below the floor, so I messed around until the timer ran out to see what happened, and I got $30,000.

The next time it happened, I got $5000, so not worth doing now.

As for Headhunter, I'm usually trying to finish it quick and move on to a client job or something, so never left it or Sightseer 'til the end.

The payout increases due to the length of the mission, but it's way more effective to move on and do another 2 jobs in the same amount of time you'd spend waiting for the timer to run out.

definitely. The payout increase seems to be only a couple grand anyways from it. I just finish them and move on.
