Even if there isn't some gigantic expansion on the horizon, knowing the plan and what's coming down the road would settle the community right down. But Rockstar, for some reason, want their entire community to be waiting on baited breath for some mythical never happening update. I'm hesitating to call their approach disrespectful to their players but I really can't think of a better word. I've basically said as much before but while their lack of transparency worked in the past to great effect, it does not work in 2019. It works for unreleased games but when you're trying to sustain an active playerbase in an online game you really should be (need to be) keeping your community in the know. I remember reading an interview with Sarwar where he talked about how they hadn’t anticipated how much work Heists would actually be to pull together. And I also remember how the original GTAO trailer mentioned ”[...] pull off heists...” almost in passing - like R* themselves didn’t really know what they meant by ”heists” in that sentence, more than that they wanted it to sound cool. And then players across the globe started the ”we want Heists!” chanting, ultimately resulting in the release of Heists 2 years later. I think all this secrecy is foremost a way for them to protect themselves, to not give anything away, in order to avoid backlash. But that also begs the question if there even is a roadmap, even internally. You’d think there would be, but look at GTA. Every update has a different theme, one goes a bit into great car customization (Benny’s) but then it stops there after that update and not many more cars gets that. One upgrades planes but not all of them across the board. The more I think of it, the more it feels like nothing really is very thought through. It tries to cater to public opinion but in no kind of mutual discussion with the public. And the silence on R* behalf is simply a way to avoid making promises they can’t keep. I’m definitely not saying I’d agree with that if that’s the case, anyway I’m really just thinking aloud here... Really hope RDO doesn't suffer the same fate. Only time I can remember there being any sort of consistency was when FAFF, Bikers and I/E all came out one after the other with Cunning Stunts obv being between FAFF and Bikers but I think an exception can be made here. All businesses, building on each other and being more massive than the last etc. And then the great military stretch of updates in 2017 starting with Gunrunning and ending with Doomsday. These two years are about all I can give them for consistency. Yes, id gladly pick this game up again if we properties, gambling and businesses in the summer or so. Maby i explaned it wrong, you know when a mode is new it’s a pics of it at the online menu, so you can enter it as a separate mode and only play that.
