What Ability Cards do you want added?

Recommended Posts

Dr.Rosenthal

Suppose we get new Ability Cards down the line, what cards/perks/cheats/abilities would you like to see added? What would you expect R* might add? Serious or nonsensical, all ideas are welcome.

I’ll start off with a spin-off from the recent discussion in the B&M thread regarding killing horses, and a few others.

TEAM NEIGHER

When Dead Eye is active your horse becomes a magnet for bullets - auto aim focuses on it instead of you. Higher tiers of this card turns your horse into an armored bullet sponge honeycomb.

CHUCKY JIAN

Everyone knows a good few mouthfuls of rubbing alcohol is the best motivator when trying to win an argument. You deal 1.5 Increased damage when hand-to-hand fighting while drunk, with tiers up to a cap of 2.5.

FLAWLESS FREEFLOW

Using this card lets you play all Stranger Missions in whatever order you like, without fail (no disconnects). Higher tiers reduces the chance of frozen mission startups.

INSMOGNITO

Smoking an unhealthy amount of tobacco will remove you from the face of this earth. Or at least from the map. Use tobacco to calm your nerves, blend in and pull that red blip back into obscurity again.

Your turn!

One card to rule them all

At tier 3 this card nullifies all other players cards full stop

BUT THE BENZ

"not just yet" - after you've been killed you don't immediately die, you get to unload 6 bullets with a revolver from a prone position while dying!

...and then you die!

Pot of Greed - Looting a player you've killed allows you to steal one of their Treasure Maps if they have one saved.

Good thread. I would see a card added that focuses on stealth a little more. Since in this game it arguably works better than in GTA V.

Top of my head. Let's call it "Blade runner" yup I know, not very clever name there 😐

You would be invisible on the mini map up to 5 feet of a players location whenever you have a knife or melee equipped. Requires crouch to be active and dead eye drains very fast on tier 1 then reduces as you level up said card.

Edit: I like your chucky yian idea @Dr.Rosenthal it sounds like something that could be added.

WINDWALKER - You can give your horse a temporary speed boost. Your horse will take less damage during the boost.

FINDERS KEEPERS - You have a higher chance to find more loot on dead enemies, treasure chests and homestead raiding. Saddle bags of npc horses are easier to loot. If another player is stealing a carcass from your horse, your horse will kick the perp. Dead animals will despawn at greater distances.

DRUNKEN MASTER - You will take less damage while drunk and deal more unarmed or melee damage.

MARKSMAN

Level 1: Camera Shake and Reticle Shake are slightly decreased while aiming

Level 2: Camera Shake and Reticle Shake are significantly decreased while aiming

Level 3: Camera Shake and Reticle Shake are removed completely while aiming

Drawback: Free Aim Only

SMILE FOR THE CAMERA  - Allows you to catch bullets in your teeth.

DOCTOR MOREAU I PRESUME? - Gives you the ability to become a half-man half-animal killing machine.

THE BARD - If a griefer shoots you, his speakers and headset are taken over with 5 minutes of Shakespeare recitations.

HEINOUS ANUS - an odor so foul, that it attracts all predators, and causes faster health core drain of enemy players nearby.

COURT JESTER - take no damage while performing an emote.  Troll griefers all day with your prospector jig.

SHAPESHIFTER - you assume the form of your attacker and inherit their abilities.  Shoot narcissist griefers between the eyes while they admire their doppelganger.

Outstanding contributions, everyone!

Except you, @Rafae S. Lol.

My deepest and most sincere condolences, because each of the other ones is more likely to come true than that.

I want a passive card that hides me on the map unless I'm in someones line of sight or run, shoot, rides a horse.

A low drain dead eye card that lets you befriend predators. Maybe rank 3 would make them help you out in combat or somwthing.

Including dogs. Would be pretty silly but hilarious.

A passive herbalist card that lets you pick 2-3-4 herbs per plant.

Edit.

Passive card. Whenever some ...... does the prospector jig near you, their head falls off and their horse explodes.

This 100%^

You have my vote; there need to at least be places and/or job modes where they cannot be used at all. Perhaps a bit like Deathmatches and other PvP modes in GTA where owned weapons and the like cannot be used; RDR needs this, otherwise, if I ever decide to play this game again, I'll forever take a pass when it comes to playing anything even remotely related to PvP.

Ability cards suck; shame on you and your greed, R*! 🙅

makes pvp so f*cking cheap and one sided it's almost insulting. showdown matches aren't even about skill anymore just a constant f*cking battle to outsmart those with something you can't access. only reason i do showdowns too is for the XP and i still get burnt out and wanna say f*ck it after two or three matches. it's just f*cking wrong how i can empty two direct slugs into someone's chest right in front of them and they still kill me with a f*cking carbine repeater. lag and ability cards are the worst f*cking combination ever.

f*ck your ability cards. f*ck your p2p servers. f*ck your gold bars.

First I want to point out that this was all thought to be a playful discussion where we can toy around with the concept of Ability Cards. I understand the criticism against them; I would also like to try and play the game on equal terms without any of them. Can’t say if I’d prefer one or the other though since I haven’t tried myself.

Personally I think that they add an interesting layer to PvP. I wanted classes in the game, instead we got Ability Cards. As with anything, they can be exploited - which is why they should keep being fine-tuned in favor of balance. They may not be realistic, but why should they have to be?

I really appreciate all of your answers and ideas! A couple more:

SAVAGE FURY

You have a certain predisposition towards the animal kingdom. Predatory animals do not attack you. Higher tiers turn nearby predators into your allies.

PUFFERFISH

Your body is poisonous. Any melee attack - and particularly melee kills exerted upon you - taints your opponent with a slow acting neurotoxin ultimately resulting in death.

MAD KING

Step into a flaming chaos to slowly regain health. With tier upgrades the health regeneration rate is increased.

DOUBLE AGENT

When you activate Dead Eye some of the players on your opponent’s team appear as enemies to each other and friendly fire will be turned on. On higher tiers the number of turned enemies increase.

Again - I don’t really want all this in the game but I think it makes for an interesting thought experiment. Cheers,

none.

ability cards are amongst the dumbest ideas ever thought up by rockstar (or the smartest if you're looking at it from their point of view), though I think eventually there's be new OP ones that cheapen the game further and increase the advantage/disadvantage gap between the have's and the have-not's. if they have the audacity to try to sell emotes for money and gold, you can guarantee they'll start churning out new and more powerful ability cards.

people keep asking for free aim lobbies. let me add another suggestion, lobbies where ability cards are banned, or at least restricted to a dead eye card.

Since it's all in fun, I'll restrain myself from going on another anti-card tirade, but yea, I still hate them and always will. :p

So, here we go..

THEY WON'T SHOOT HORSES, WILL THEY?

Tier I: If another player kills your horse, all other horses (including their own) will automatically run away from them for a total of 10 minutes (real time). Each horse that is killed will add an additional 20 minutes to the total; there is no limit to how many minutes can be accumulated.

Tier II: If another player kills your horse, all horses (including their own) will automatically charge and attack them instead of running away from them for a total of 10 minutes (real time). Again, each horse that is killed by the aggressor will add an additional 20 minutes to the total time and there is no limit to how many minutes can be accumulated.

Tier III: If another player kills your horse, they will immediately lose access and ownership of their own currently active personal horse entirely and must either purchase a replacement or rely entirely on scrawny nags in addition to being tar and feathered, stripped of all treasure maps and satchel items, hanged by the law, and forced to pay a fine of $500. The tar and feathers will be visible on the aggressor's avatar for a period of one day (real time) per offence.

Honestly, none. The current ones need to be nerfed so the gap between high and low level players isn't this big. The more i go up in levels, the stronger that strength gap becomes.

Trying to counter Slippery Bastard in Spoils of war and Up in smoke makes me sick. Ability cards basically killed any competitiveness that i had cause it all boils down to "who's higher and who has better cards". I cherish the RDR 1 online days when i was super competitive and when only deciding factor was my muscle memory. When meeting a high level meant meeting a great PVP player, not card buffed player. And when a low level player could stand his own against a high one. In RDR2 new guys are cannon fodder.

Ability cards need to go from deciding factor to a slight buff. That's the only way to create a fair playing field for all levels.

I'm trying to stay objective as possible and i came up with this conclusions:

1. For me, fun PVP experience isn't repeatedly destroying low level players cause they can't answer properly to my ability card buffs

2. I want to have full control of my kills. I don't need any special help in form of ability cards.

3. I want that headshots kill me just like everyone else. This is Wild West, bullet stopping hats don't belong in this world

4. I want to fight on a fair playing field. That's impossible when ability cards create too weak or too strong players. That's not fair.

That's me from objective standpoint :D Anyway, i won't spam Dr. Rosenthal thread anymore.

The dream is to have pure free aim lobbies with no ability cards but if I had to choose one addition it would be a sleight of hand card for faster reloading.

Yeah, I'm not the biggest PvP player but I seek the same from any that I do play.

These cards have ruined any PvP I could/would do. It's just who's richest and quickest at lining up their trump cards, petty and childish if anything.

If they have to add more of this crap, add one called 'The Equaliser' in that it stops anyone in the mode/game I'm in using any cards at all. :)

Since we’re into that discussion, aren’t level-locked horses or explosive ammo worse than cards? You can have the best cards at just about level 50. Can’t buy cards with Gold either.

And since the game is intended to be played in auto aim, every guy (as some would call ”griefer”) riding past me would kill me with a headshot and keep riding away. That’s exactly what I don’t want. Now he shoots me in the head, my hat falls off, I draw my gun and he’s dead.

Guess it’s a matter of how you play, but to me the cards help with my defensive play.

Maybe a completely card-free came would be better, but just remember then that you’d be headshot and killed everytime a stranger rode past. Kind of like GTA, shoot first or be dead. People are surprisingly friendly on Red Dead, more so than on GTAO anyway. 🤷‍♂️

So just get rid of the nitro-bullets and the magic cards and it might be more like actually being in the real Wild West. Shootouts would be fair and fun; and low-levels would have a chance while high-levels wouldn't be bored with how easy it is killing 'em.

P.S. And boost player health just a bit to prevent insta-death. Just a little. Or alternatively, reduce the effectiveness of auto-aim just a bit more, to simulate the difficulty of shooting real guns. IRL there's no way I could nail 3 high-flyin birds in 3 seconds as I can in game; and hitting a running deer from fast-running horseback at range with no problem? Hell no.

Fair & Square I

When activating this Dead Eye, all other Dead Eye and Passive Abilities are removed. Everyone in nearby vincnity are forced into free aim. Paint It Black won't mark. One shot headshots becomes possible, even against NWO. But Dead Eye drain is severely increased.

Fair & Square II

Dead Eye drain is moderately increased.

Fair & Square III

Dead Eye drain is slightly increased.

I'd like to see a level 100 card for each category.  Dead eye card (You'll Shoot Your Eye Out)...kill a player that has dead eye active replenishes dead eye - bar, bar & core, yellow bar & core.   Combat card (Punch Drunk)...more damage with melee - increase to super strength.  Recovery card (Be Prepared)...carry more tonics/herbs changing discards to minimum - add 2, add 5, add 10.  Defense card (Clean Break)...reduces lock on range/strength when running or riding - other players lock on distance would decrease and sprinting or riding breaks a lock after each shot,
