GTA V is on Sony’s list of “games with known issues” resulting from a PSN name change. The issues are

supposedly minor (resetting your graphics, controls, sound settings to default and having to re-link your social club account etc). 

But has anyone tried it or had any first hand experience of changing their name yet? The internet is full of stories of “I heard someone say.......” but has anyone tried this for themselves?

In theory in America it should be already possible, while here in Europe we have to wait until the 11th April (just a few minutes here where I live). I was really looking forward for this fearure, sadly I'm in the category "I chose a silly name 10 years ago", tomorrow I'll be more than happy to finally change the nickname of my main account!

My advice is to try to change the nickname of a second account since it's free the first time... IMO we'll just have to unlink our PSN account from Social Club and then re-link it after the nickname has been changed.

BTW, who the hell tested GTA San Andreas and Bully? They're PS2 classics, how can you lose your progress in an offline-only game? Or they were maybe referring to the possibility of loosing some trophies?

I'll change mine, I don't know what to, probably something car related. As long as my in game car collection stays good I don't really care what else happens.

I've taken a look at my GTA V stats page on my Social Club. I see my character's stats but the character face profile picture is blank. I think we lose our characters appearance.

 

EDIT: I have another PSN account with it's own SC that did not get changed. I see my other character's face over on the Stats page.

The new name shows up under my linked PSN account. My character and progress is safe. 

 

The new name displays correctly in the lobby lists.

 

I don't have that cargo, MC, gunrunning etc. stuff so I think those should be safe as well.

So does social club get updated with the new name as well? Not a deal breaker if not as I can always create new crews if I need to, I think that's about all I'd lose if my social club info doesn't carry over.

I was going to do this, but I'm currently getting all kinds of PSN errors - like WS-37505-0 and WS-36769-1. My friends list is barely loading up and everything is running incredibly slow or locking up. I've restarted my system and internet three times already and am about to rebuild the database. Not going to try with all of this going on, but I will if it gets sorted. Anyone else having issues?

My friends list loads but I can't look at their profiles. I can invite them to parties though.

Thanks! Was having the very same issue as well. I just finished rebuilding the database in safe mode and it seems faster and back to normal - I can view profiles now as well.

 

Also, I usually first sign in with my status showing offline, but I changed this as well and signed in showing online. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but I've had it before where it created issues and wouldn't allow me to change my status.

People have been waiting a loooong time for this. I fully expect PSN to be crippled into the weekend while everyone makes a mad dash to claim new handles.

 

Don't rebuild your database. The OS issues you are running into are likely related to PSN server problems while things are being stressed. Just disable your network connection and play offline if things get too unstable.

I considered it. I even confirmed that all of the new handles I might switch to are free; which is amazing considering Sony leaves dead accounts lying around indefinitely.

 

...but I’ve had my PSN handle for so long and it’s so deceptive that I can’t bring myself to change it.
