Accessing the third island

With the flying cars cheat it was easy to cross the first damaged bridge but the gap is too big for the second one, unless it takes a specific car and maneuverability skills. I took a boat but there are barriers in the ocean.

If you haven't unlocked Staunton Island yet, you can use the subway or the Porter tunnel to travel from Staunton to Shoreside Vale.

Yeah you can just jump over the Callahan bridge using the exposed girders to get to Staunton Island and then simply drive through the subway to SSV, watch out for the train though because it f*cking sucks walking through those tunnels with no car.

Is there no way to get past the northern barrier?

By the way, cars have better flying capacity than I thought, this is coming downhill from the closed northern tunnel.

Not with land vehicles, the map is meant to end there. It's possible to fly there with the Dodo though.

You can also use the Rhino tank, turn its turret backwards and shoot repeatedly to fly with the flying cars cheat more easily.

If you are interested, there's also an Aircraft mod for GTA III.

Ah, do you remember how much time was spent trying to jump over that tunnel barrier or driving Patriot towards the observatory?

Good times.

The Dodo isn't for flying.

It's been hypothesized and debated numerous times over the years but it really makes you wonder why Rockstar essentially programmed a half flyable plane - they did spit out some "answer" in that Q/A session a few years back which was this:

"Because we were making a driving and shooting game - even that, as a combination of core gameplay elements, was very, very radical at the time. The Dodo was never meant to be flown very much at all, and it certainly wasn’t grounded as a result of 9/11 – it was just a fun thing that people then went crazy with when they figured out various bugs that let them fly it!"

To me that isn't an explanation of the Dodo's gimped flying capabilities and I suppose you could argue it exists solely for the mission Grand Theft Aero in which you enter the Dodo briefly and there's also the plotline reasoning that "port authorities seized the plane and were stripping it down" which also explains the cut down wings however that doesn't explain why it would spawn at the airport after.

The Dodo is also used for the Portland Import/Export garage.

I'm glad the Dodo made it to the final game even in its unfinished state. It's indeed fun to fly when you figure out its weird physics.

I always use the Portland tunnel glitch to reach other islands.

All you have to do is park a car (a banshee or two seater car preferable) on the edge of the pier (just above the closed tunnel) just so your diver seat is towards the ocean side.

If you exit the car you will fall on top of transparent roof of the tunnel.

Then you have to run and jump towards the first left turn of the tunnel you will fall through blue hell and reach Staunton Island.

Reaching Shoreside Vale is quite easy task because the tunnel is open from Staunton to Shoreside if you reach early.

(It closes only when you complete Last Request mission)

My preferred way to reach Staunton Island is to use the ghost car glitch as shown in this Vadim M video:

You can start the Taxi mission in another car by holding the side-mission activation button in a taxi and releasing it after entering the other car.
Take a passenger in the front seat and drive next to the car crusher so that the driver door is blocked.
Exit the car while holding the Taxi side-mission button and re-enter it by throwing the passenger out when the crane is about to lift the car.
Finally simply drive the ghost car through the tunnel barrier.
