killdrivetheftvehicle

a dislike feature needed

So, the most popular video service youtube has it: a dislike button. It's a good gauge to see which threads are loved and which hated. You don't have to post to be able to like threads, which reduces the overall number of positive posts. Now introducing a dislike button would probably reduce the number of negative posts. I want this page to be balanced to more positive posts than negative, but having them to be equal is a good start. You might want to introduce same kind of ranks as you have on likes: it could be game companies in order of dislike they have for them, EA being the worst and since this is a R* fansite, the least disliked would be R*.

We've had this discussion before and the answer is no.

It would be too open to abuse and threads would be judged more on the poster than the post.  There's too many old arguments lurking around to ever allow it to be used in the correct way.

The "dislike" button on YouTube shouldn't exist.

You know i'm convinced it only works in small(er) or lesser known communities which trolls wouldn't find or if they find it then they wouldn't find it interesting

Why don't you actually engage in conversation with whoever's post you don't like (i.e. the point of a forum) instead of drive-by disliking their stuff?

So, why is it okay to driveby like something then? Isn't that also a violation of the "point of the forum". I'm just thinking if it's okay to like something, it's also okay to dislike it.

I got the idea from a wishlist where everybody was allowed to vote up or down a suggestion and then the ones that were actually liked the most and hated the least ended up on top.

Is driveby liking literally a thing?

the only people who are gonna use dislike buttons are people who are going to use it as a tool for trolling/petty internet fights. There won’t be a single legitimate use for it, or like I said before, tell someone why you don’t like their post as opposed to just blindly disliking something you disagree with. If you disagree with something, either ignore it or engage in a conversation. A dislike button adds literally nothing

That sort of system is gonna be abused anyway, no matter how it's handled.

Cause the moment any potential abuser gets their hands on it...

SPAM! SPAM! SPAM!

Yeah...no.
