The Squirrel and the Bluebird

DISCLAIMER: I have not written a story within the WD for five months and two days now. You do not have to like this story, though many of my Facebook friends really loved it. Constructive criticism will be appreciated, but please keep any nasty replies you have in mind to yourself. I initially wrote this back when I was only in 5th grade. Without any further ado, The Squirrel and the Bluebird!

 

Once upon a time, a squirrel named Sammy was sitting in his tree during the winter. He saw two adult bluebirds migrating south then all of the sudden, a winter breeze blew their unnamed baby son out of their feet. That's when Sammy scurried down from his tree and found the baby bluebird with his foot caught in a tree branch. He used his strong teeth to bite it open. 

 

"It's okay little guy, I'll take you home to my tree. What's your name?" asked Sammy.

"Bluie!" muttered the baby bluebird.

"Hi Bluie, I'm Sammy and I'll take good care of you until your parents come back!" said Sammy.

 

He carried Bluie all the way to up to his tree. Every night, Sammy would use his bushy tail as a blanket for Bluie and Bluie would sleep right by his side. Everyday, Sammy would gather fruits, nuts, seeds, and insects for both himself and Bluie to eat. He also told Bluie to stay right where he was until he came back and to always give him a call for help if any predators were to show up.

 

One day, while Sammy was collecting food for Bluie, he heard a loud cry from such a small bird. Sammy was alert and ran as quickly as he could back to his tree. Right when he arrived, a weasel abducted Bluie and was running away. Sammy ran right after the weasel and chased him right down to his hole. Most squirrels wouldn't dare do such a thing and survive but Sammy sure enough did. He brought Bluie back out and showed him the weasel's corpse to let him know he was dead and it was all over.

 

"Perhaps it would come in handy if I brought you to my flying squirrel friend so he could teach you how to fly" suggested Sammy.

 

Sammy brought Bluie to the tree of his friend flying squirrel named Secret. Secret taught Bluie how to fly. It took him a sufficient number of days, but he did it. However, Bluie still had a problem about flying at such a young age.

 

One day, he was abducted by a hawk. Sammy and Secret teamed up to save Bluie from the hawk. They threw rocks, acorns, and whatever they could find at the hawk until he let Bluie go. Eventually, he did and while the hawk landed in freezing cold water, Bluie landed in the safe hands of Sammy and Secret.

 

Once winter was over, Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird came back and Sammy and Secret told them all about what they did with their son. 

 

"Thanks so much! We were worried sick all winter long!" said Mrs. Bluebird.

"From now on, you two are my hired babysitters" said Mr. Bluebird. 

 

From that point forward, Sammy and his friend, Secret became the protectors of the forest. Farm animals, puppies, kittens, and children are also even better off with Sammy guarding them then they are anything else, for Sammy is no ordinary squirrel!

I know I'm late, but you've actually improved on writing. Back then, your writing format was just a big clump of text which made it nearly impossible for me or any others to read. Now it's easier to read. Continue like this.
