After executing the tool I now have two gta_sa.exe files. The exact same filesize and creation date. Is another a leftover from an earlier installation?

I have the "Unknown Version" Error, please someone help me!

Verify game cache in Steam.

How do I do that?

I need help please! The downgrader detects files and starts but then freezes and stays at 0%

Once it changed a few files then froze

Verify game cache in Steam.

How do I do that

Right Click game on steam then go on 'properties' then go to 'local files' then click 'view integrity of game cache'

Freezing is fine - leave it alone. It just means it's processing a large file.

With the Steam/digital copies of San Andreas, Rockstar renamed the EXE "gta-sa.exe". The retail version uses "gta_sa.exe". So for for mods like SAMP that look for the retail named EXE and to retain the ability to launch from Steam, the downgrader makes two exact same EXEs just with different names.

would it be possible to make a mac version, or at least give a download with all the files instead of an exe?

Downgrading is useful if you want to play with mods.

Mods are windows only (I guess wine + linux is fine too)

So what's the point?

The Mac version is just Windows version with some wrapper. I wouldn't be surprised if downgrading it would work partially.

mods work on Mac and Linux too if you can run it.

and the Mac version works like the windows version, it even has the same files and exe, only packed into an application

and please, i used mods on my mac for like 6 years now, on the whole trilogy, asi, cleo all works, the only thing i havent got to work was SA:Render

I can't get it to work from the most recent Steam sale. I deleted the .set file from my documents and nothing launches.

Are you sure my friend bcz I heard that Steam Version crashes after modding! So I decided to download a Non-Steam version from a trusted site! I love this game that's why I am asking.

You can't mod Steam version, but it's not like you can't transform that version into another and that's what we are doing.

Please tell me this works with the current version of SA.

This works with the current version of Steam.

If have the retail there's another downgrader.

What are you talking about?

You have plain smooth original vanilla GTA:SA, the best version you can find. Everything else is GTFO

He means the splash screens(EAX/Nvidia). Those are skipped in Steam version.

truxton get SilentPatch and it'll skip them too.

You should do a downgrader for Vice City Steam so we can get the removed audio back :)

Does the songs removed only for people who purchased the game after the removal? Or if I redownload the game I won't get them too?

Only if you purchase after the removal... but some people claim they bought the game recently and they still got the songs.

I bought the game 4 years before the infamous patch.

And still, it updated with this crap.

Ok, so, awesome thing:

if you wineskin a windows version of steam (I think paul the tall has one), you can download the newest steam version of San Andreas. After that, all you need to do is put the game files into their own wineskin wrapper using wineskin winery (http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php?page=Downloads) and run the downgrade exe as an installation file.

That is how you downgrade SA on mac! Good grief it took forever to find the right way to do it and the right downgrader. Thank you gamerzworld!

If you have any questions ask me! Finally, here I come SAMP!
