[GTA IV | WIP] Kubo GE: the revolution of IV

Kubo GE (Graphic Enhancement) is a graphic modification for Grand Theft Auto IV. The target of this project is to make this 11 year old game graphically competitive with new games.

This project started in 2016. I'm the only author of this mod.

In general, I really like these screens above ))
Usually I always dislike all "atmosphere changing" mods, but not this time.
You been working on this for 3 or 4 years, so I want to ask you, what about some estimate release date ?
And will this be compatible with 1.0.0.4 IV version ?

I really appreciate it. I don't know when i'll finish it, still needs a lot of work, but if there are a lot of requests i could release an alpha version in a month.

This mod is based on enbseries 0.163 and patch 1.0.4.0, i don't remember if that enb version is compatible even with that patch.

Well, according to enbseries changelog, it must be compatible:

v0.077a: adopted to use with patch 1.0.0.3 and 1.0.0.4, previous worked correctly only with patch 1.0.0.3.

 

And I would love to try out alpha version ))
P.S. These car reflections looks a bit strong to me, but it is tweakable in enb settings afaik.

I dont know, the ambient occlusion looks totally not regular and you can see patches of black on all the side of the cars, They do look somewhat more proper to the picture but those AO irregularities break all feeling

lol that isn't ao, that is rockstar's vertex prelight. When i'll finish the car i'm working on i'll post a picture of it in the same place to see the difference.

Update: some weeks ago i discovered something interesting. In these days i tried to do an experiment and i did it, it works. The bad side is that the game is not stable, i will try to find a solution.

With this patch now surfaces can reflect almost every mesh present in game and in high quality.

@Ku3o do you know what's the matter? I have the same thing but it is visible only at certain camera angles. 🤔

UPD: after I restarted the game this 'bug' disappeared and I had to wait couple of minutes before it started bugging again.. WTF?

@orangebrains hehe you got it, what i've done is made that "bug" always visible and no more only at certain angles. I'll explain more to you via pm.

Bad news: i can't release the Kubo patch. I noticed that the game can handle a limited surface. If the surfaces sum go beyond the limit the game crash, so i can't cover the whole map.

Limited number of cars, limited surfaces amount... This game is a limit, limits everywhere.

Wow, that test in the subway looks very impressive! Hope, you'll come up with something interesting!


Talking about limits... That is a hell of a problem, agreed. That's why I can't release retextured models. If the wtd/wdr exceeds 10mb limit the game probably will crash or just won't load any textures/models at all. :

 

Btw, would like to see more screenshots with red color in the daylight. It was looking very acid in 0.72. I am talking about this at it could be a luma-related problem, and not the saturation at all.

This need an explanation.
I'm using rockstar default shaders because i don't want steal anything, these settings must be 100% mine, and it's a lot complicated to obtain a natural look with a clear image without aliasing.
I thought and invented several tricks to obtain that quality with rockstar default shaders. These tricks have a lot of side effects (like that acid red like you said), so fix it is not that simple like change a value that increase or decrease the saturation.
Fix the saturation took me a lot of time thinking how to make it natural, and then finally i found a solution (changing the combination of 5 values). It's a riddle.
