Is RDO really that bad?

Slippery sucks. It drains dead eye rapidly (even with Unblinking), requiring frequent tonic use. And it only works for seconds. You can't possibly play every single match using slippery 24/7. That's ridiculous.

Just stick to auto aim ? WHAT OTHER CHOICE IS THERE ?!?!? The first games I ever played were on a PC, which is free aim. So was I born a free aimer ?

Of course someone can be a "free aim user" - provided the game actually provides the framework for it. Since RDR is rated 18, for adults, why then are we forced to use auto-aim, which just comes across as being designed for children ?

Slippery shouldn't cost more dead eye than any other abillity.

But picking Indian tobaco gives you something to do I guess.

Auto aim is designed for console as the controller sticks is doing a sh*tty job. I've seen videos of self claimed free aim experts here. They can hit sh*t.

We just had a thread more or less like this titled "Is RDO dead". It's bad if you don't like it; but it's good if you like it. I like it.

Classy.

His point was, that this is not COD. Get over it.

I found it to be a very good game - for a while. All I did was hunt and fish for many hours but finally I got tired of it, and with no new content I moved on. I got the updates, but as usual they're for PVP players and that's not me.

I hope you enjoy it, there is some good stuff to do.

Literally every single reply makes a valid point. Rockstar is capable of so much more. That being said, I’ll still be playing now and then when im tired of the fast pace of COD.

And I apologize if we are re-hashing old topics. This is the first time I’ve ever posted on a forum

It’s quite an entertaining for maybe 15 hours.  After that, there is nothing new to experience.

Has potential.  If it had as many instanced missions as GTAonline had at launch it would be a hell of a lot better.

It's Gtao with horses. Rockstar seems to fail to grasp that RDR2 attracks a different crowd. You can not treat every game as Fortnite.

I think the majority of the players wants to be left alone and not dragged into constant pvp. When I try to fish I get constantly shot at. If you go to the butcher you will get ambushed.

I do like to go troll hunting. RDR2 can cater to the fortnite kiddies. But it should be a choice. You should be able to select free for all or private lobbies. Now it's forced upon you.

Rockstar made some daft design decisions. They corrected the OP varmint rifle, the ammo type selection, you don't lose pelts if you die, the roaming camp. And introduced the overweight character and hair clipping. A lot of bugs remain, like horse bonding and stranger missions that do not start. Not to mention the frequent disconnections.

If you make a game that is more generous and less grindy, people enjoy it more. If you enjoy it more, people will be committed and spend cash at mtx. Now mtx are shoved in your throat.

This is the key point for me.

In the most part I enjoy playing RDO. Out of the entirety of my free time that I can dedicate towards gaming, RDO currently gets the lion's share of said time, and again, I do get enjoyment from the time I spend in game.

What p*sses me off is that R* are capable of so much better than what is currently on offer. They have the resources and the experience necessary to produce a better game than the current state of RDO.

Players can recite the tired meme that the beta tag has become, I'll hear the arguments, I probably won't entertain them though. R* aren't treating RDO as a beta when opening a microtransaction store, or failing to provide regular updates and patches, so I refuse to view RDO as a beta.

When you're capable of better, you should do better, unfortunately R* seem complacent enough to do the bare minimum. Which is a huge shame.

It's really confusing that in today's Internet era Rockstar failed to realize that RDR franchise attracts mature players, 25+ demographic. Hence GTA with horses product. They/We want a western game despite Rockstar's efforts to push GTAish online concept.

I loved playing the Beta when it first came out, but it really lacks content that makes it enjoyable, since missions are (imo) truly boring. The showdown gamemodes have brought me lots of joy, but the player health/damage design seems flawed, when you can fill and opponent with bullets up close and wind up dead with one single bullet from a far, causing great frustration hence making the experience less enjoyable. Either I am bad or I am right. I find money and XP difficult to obtain. Guns cost a fortune and most of those I want including the speciel ammo is locked till a high rank is achieved. And again, the whole process of grinding towards such a high rank feels painful with flawed showdowns and boring missions.

GTAO was extremely fun when it first got released, but I was way younger and didn't have much else important to do back then. New weapons, attire and upgrades for vehicles were fairly easy to get to, since jobs paid off good.

But when thinking back on that, especially to when next-gen GTAO got released, the true fun came with the early updates which brought some of the more advanced game modes such as heists etc.

I still have faith in RDO, but as the game is now, I'd rather still gunsling and enjoy Arthur's character in story mode.

Guys i played rdo for a while now after the new update. It doesn’t seem that bad. Seems to be running more consistent. Despite not having a poker feature, is it really that bad of a online game? Bear in mind, im very new to forums. Most of my friends prefer online shooters like COD. I myself like to go different route sometimes. Basically what im asking, is it worth putting in time with RDO?

Would appreciate feedback. Thanks in advance

It's not that bad and it's not that good either. The game is full of annoyances. It's frustrating when you lose all the skins from your horse or when you get an error right at the end of an event and get paid nothing for it. Other players are mostly annoying too. But I keep going back to it so I'm still getting something out of it. Lately I've been playing more Showdowns because hunting has become a grind (at one time I could make $1000 per day but now I can barely make $200) and I've played the story missions so much that I can't stand to play them any more.

As someone who hasn't played either RDR1 or 2, 2's online looks like a massive downgrade and overall piece of sh*t in comparison. I mean, how the hell do you ship a Multiplayer mode without the most basic things such as lobby options, and forcing free-aim players to play with auto-aimers? (Not to mention the concept of full on auto-aim is only still being supported by Cockstar alone, Controllers are not an excuse).

Disagree, there's plenty of positive comments too. But even the more positive players are saying things like 'give it time' or recognise there's many bugs or minimal content or options, they still play in hope but know R* are capable of more.

When even the more positive players are showing they recognise there's issues, it's clear there are issues, lol.

I understand your point, but still. Recognizing issues doesn‘t mean that something is bad. Ofcourse there is a lot of potential for improvements in the future, but this doesn‘t make the game a bad experience overall, imo.

That's subjective though, it depends on what you want to play.

Being a PvE guy, it's a bad game for me. Same with Fortnite or COD, they just aren't a game for me, so they are bad. Not technically, but in what they offer. Hence I don't play RDRO currently.

And again, if the negative is overwhelming regarding issues like bugs from day one, even from more positive players, it highlights that even technically it's poor.

You'll read a lot of negative comments from people who in reality like the game, ME included. We're just hoping for bigger and better things since we know there's such huge potential.

If you like it, stick with it. If your buddies want a non-stop shooter, yeah, this may not be the game for them.

I have a feeling this is a new trend. I notice that a lot are complaining about a game. Before they even play several hours on it. Yes ..some are right in their critics, but some are just lame flaming

Such negativity never seen before. Some of the problems never occured here with me. Not only with Red Dead.. other games also. Battlefield 5 is just an example...

I think this game is not only for "casual gamers" This game offers a lot of Role Play Gaming. Thats a specific reason for some to play this game

Not only negativity breaks this game. There are players who dont play this game. They are just f...cking around. Shoot low level players from servers. *(I dont say, dont shoot anyone, but there is a difference between bullying and griefing, griefers are just a part of the game)

Like me yesterday, Level far above 100 (think it was 160)  was shooting me in the back, okay..cool you have to get your challenge. (I dont parley...its not me) So...I walk away from this fight like a gentlemen. He shoot me in the back again ....did pulled a Robert Ford again??? and....shot my horse down...just why?

This took some time...and I didnt put up a fight. (It was allmost time to get ready for nightynight here)

I think that is a big part of the problem. Red Dead is to much GTA and I never played GTAO (hear stuff from my brother)

I try to shut my eyes for negativity. I am enjoying this game to the max :D

yes of course there is so much critic, because its trendy to criticize... could it be, that there is so much critic, because of the absolutely underwhelming online experience?

My Story Missions are now broken.

Unable to play a single one yesterday. Timer would count down and I'd simply be placed right back into Free Roam. One time I managed to load into the Ft Mercer story (Kill them all each and every one) but Horley wouldn't move and we kept getting this random Out Of Lives screen.

Great. The ONE activity I actively participate in is broken. Figures.

They do work, just less often now. I am used to this sort of crap from 5 years of it with GTA.

If the timer is greyed out at 1:15, quit to free roam straight away

I have had the problem aswell with being instantly loaded back into free roam. They do work though, you just have to keep quick joining and hope and pray that you get in a working lobby.

This is just another example of how clueless the online devs are, do they even test or play their own game? Who knows...

Sometimes I think those making the decisions are GTA griefers IRL.

They really need to bring in some new blood with some fresh ideas of what a western themed video game should be all about. The world we're playing in is unfreakin believable but those running the show right now seem to be lost.

No it’s not that bad. Dont let the mixed feedback bite.

The spoil of war mode they just added is a realy good add to the game, offcorse u must like PvP to enjoy it, but the game can offer a lot of other stuff too, hunting and fishing is quite nice also, story missions it’s only 7 or 8 of them now,  be sure to bring someone u can count on that dosnt f*ck it up or leave..

Stranger mission could be sometimes fun and sometimes boring.

In my opinion rdo this is the most realistic, detailed and biggest open world game out there, give it a try at least.

What other online open world game can one compare with rdo? I believe no one.

Have you played the story line yet?

If not you have mutch do to before jumping into online ;)

This game is at a realy stage and so far so good, it just take some times between the updates. I guess we would get bank robbery missions, train robberies and mutch more after a while.. It wasnt mutch do to in gta online when that was new, after a while it just getting more and more content, hope that would be the same here with rdo :)

I'd agree if not for those 'ability' cards. For me, they take away from what could have been a truly stunning realistic game.

True, i havent bothered with the ability cards yet. So i forgot that.. Anyway i ment the details and reality the world have to offer, the ability cards should never excisted online. It’s like perks in other games...

I'm not a combat person mostly but when I do, I'd much rather know I won or lost a duel due to skill over knowing the other person just paid to survive a headshot or some crap, lol.

Personally I'm a PvE guy and even prefer to play modes where there's no shooting or a heavy reliance on it. Poker, fishing and stealing wagons for example. Hunting with traps too could be a good addition. Much like GTA, I look to play cute rather than blast everything there too. If this game offered mining, farming or cattle rustling/horsebreaking and the like along with minigames, I'd not need my guns much and that'd suit me perfectly. I like role playing and always was drawn to these games as they offered me those opportunities but this one has too much focus on shooting/PvP so far. Time to grow of course, anyway...

I tend to play autoaim through poorer eyesight but that's because there is combat everywhere so as to not feel overwhelmed by it all, story mode too. But if the game offered so much more realistic and friendly/passive activities with less focus on combat, I'd go freeaim to enhance that realistic feel and would definitely welcome that change too over having these cards. And though it'd not prove popular, I'd be in favour of the guns being nerfed or balanced far better so one shot deaths aside well placed headshots or critical hits that should kill instantly.

This doesn‘t really have to do with r* doing a poor job. It‘s because of the solo-lobby glitch that‘s out right now.

Always the same argument. I don‘t mean you specifically, so don‘t take this as an offence:

ever thought about that it takes skill to properly establish strategies based on different ability card - setups? Why don‘t people want to realize that this isn‘t just another ego-shooter with 3rd prrson view.

Also I came to the conclusion that never without one is overrated af. Haven‘t been using it since level ~100 (130 now) and only rarely am missing the card.

In 95% of the situations it just takes away space for a more useful card and won‘t help you against really good players anyway.

only useful to be prepared if some noob shoots you from the back, but even in those situations you can use other strategies to counter them.

free aim just sucks in rdr 2 due to reticule shaking...either way if you get skilled in it in other games like rdr 1, you will get headshots and stuff, you just need to practice, thats what differs auto aim from free aim. Free aim is for people who are about skills, not a stupid ability loadout for kids
