This thread is for players to share their experiences in Red Dead Online. Post what you did today, events that took place, or player battles you engaged in while freeroaming or in pvp modes. I really enjoy reading these stories in the GTAO section so I thought it'd be a great idea to get some going here.

I'll begin with a brief story of my own. Starting out in Rhodes today, after a long serie of battles in Showdown, I took my regular libation over at the saloon, to wet my wistle, only to get shot at by a purple-dot player as soon as I got outside. He missed so I took cover, but the yellow-belly took off and I lost his track. I resumed my day at that point by heading out to hunt, had a decent hunt across Lemoyne, then headed to the Heartlands.

Nothing eventful took place aside from some good fishing here and there. I decided to finish up my trip by stopping over at a local farm (still in the Heartlands) to nab a cow or two for my dinner. As I entered the farm I was shot at by a sniper up on the hills to the northwest of the farm!

This is the first time I've been sniped at in freeroam -- or anywhere in the game for that matter --  so this was a totally new experience for me. What surprised me was that I could see and hear the shots like lightning from some spot up in those hills. The first shot missed me altogether so I darted around toward the chicken coop. Another shot blazed down but also missed me and my horse, which had taken off a ways to safety. A third shot came raining down yet it too missed (damn this guy was a lousy shot, as I was still in the open and vulnerable).

As I reached safety on the other side of the chicken coop, I breathed a sigh of relief. I never expected it as the guy was a blue dot so I hadn't the slightest worry over red-dot potential griefers. Somebody had just bought his first rolling block, I guessed, because that first shot really should've nailed me: I was sauntering casually at the time, relaxed and slow. I marveled at how the shots were visible almost like flaming meteors. I neither own, nor have I ever seen a sniper rifle being fired. It was startling.

Anyway, I then checked my map and saw his blue dot for just an instant -- so quick I forget his name -- before it faded. Oh well, I gave up on having beef for dinner lol, ran after my horse and took off on my way back to Valentine to sell my goods. I suppose I could've headed up after him, but by the time I got all the way up there he could've been anywhere.

Damn coward! Nothing better for him to do but to sit and wait for someone to enter the farm at 3 in the damn morning real-time (in a pretty slow session). Apparently he sided with the ranchers! Trying to protect their interests lol.

That's it for me.

Landed in the snowy mountains of Amberino, as per usual. I prefer to begin in a place I know won't be populated with players, giving me some breathing space.

Anyway, my trusty Turk and I made our way down the mountain, shooting some rabbits and elk as we went.

I then came across an open fire which I hadn't seen before, definitely seemed new.

So, I propped up and proceeded to cook some big game for dinner later on, when out of nowhere, a blue dot appeared and lassooed me.

The poor guy then, in his excitement, failed to notice the tree smack bang in front of him and flew off his horse. I burst out laughing.

I had enough time to break free, get up before he did and greeted him with several sawn off slugs.

Ahhh… retribution.

last night i was doing a mission where i needed to kill 4 gang leaders, while i was doing that i kept getting killed by griefers (i respawned and killed them each time they killed me).

i eventually killed all of the gang leaders.

and i think the griefers gave up because they where in a posse and one or more left.

I took my character for his first trip to snowy Ambarino today, myself. I've taken a few other characters up there, one on a regular basis as he lives there, but I'm playing this new character pretty much exclusively now and figured it was high time for him to take a nice vacation.

First I had to outfit him properly, of course. Once that was done I started out on my excursion by heading north through the mountains from Valentine (he lives there, always returning to his room in the hotel). After trekking through snow I arrived at my first stop: Barrow Lagoon, where I caught some decent fish along with a hefty muskie. I stopped at the cabin for a brief time, collected stuff there, then moved on north.

Then I hit a freezing rain storm. (I decided to add to the immersion IRL by jacking the air conditioner all the way down and turning up a box fan all the way lmao...when the wife got home she bitched about it and called me crazy lol, needless to say, the AC & industrial fan went off at that point.) I have to admit I really miss the snowy cold, as I'm from Michigan IRL but have been living in Florida for the past 20 years. Anyway, Ambarino is a beautiful respite from the usual climate my character usually experiences, travelling as he does mostly through Lemoyne, the Heartlands with an occasional trip over to Blackwater. Feels great to get up there: it's quiet, scenic & relaxing.

The hunting was extremely productive too! I got several 3 star pelts, a couple grey wolves, deer, numerous rabbits (mostly nice pelts), birds, and a few others of lesser quality -- no bear though this time, unfortunately. I then caught some more fish -- I love fishing as much as hunting -- got some cigars and booze, and made my way to the fast travel location, whence I returned home again, to Valentine.

No bushwhackers, as per usual: in fact I crossed paths with no one at all. It was a nice, relaxing hunting vacation. Now, back to the hard work of Showdown Series Large, before returning to my cattle-rustlin' & murderous-marshalin' in freeroam -- with the occasional break to take benefit from the Kentucky bourbon & premo smokes, of course!

(Correction: I did my fishing at Lake Isabella, my next stop after Lake Barrow.)

Can you remember roughly where in Ambarino this was?

No worries if not, I'm just up in the snow quite a lot and an open fire location would be useful.

Yep - this is the one. It's probably well known to others, but I could've sworn I'd never seen it before.

I just came across it again and I think it may only spawn at night.

A Man Deprived

I remember this one time I was camped somewhere in Scarlett Meadows and there were some people having a shootout right inside of my camp. It started with 2 or 3 people but after a couple of minutes, there were a total of 7 other players having a full-fledged firefight in my camp. Some of them even started throwing dynamite at me while I was roasting my meats. Kinda wish I had recorded some of it, I'd post some links.

I can't believe I overlooked a campfire here. Next time I head up that way I'll check it out for sure. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks, can't believe I've missed a fire there if it isn't a new addition.

No I did the fishing right after leaving the cabin, at my next stop which was Lake Isabella, which is only partly frozen. Although it would be cool if we could do some ice fishing up there lol. Wrote that up a bit too fast. You'd make a good editor, good eye there.

Cleared three gang hideouts today, yay! One of 'em, near Lagras, a gator nearly got me but I somehow got away, gulped a tonic and fought the bandits to the last man, of course I murdered the leader (I'm the Murderin' Marshal after all).

The second one, at that outpost/fort whatever it is, was pretty easy...all but four of the bandits' bodies despawned so barely got any loot! Pennies for my trouble.

The third one was near Valentine as I was on my way back from hunting. I almost passed it up (there were red dots not far off and didn't wanna lose my stuff -- I had an elk pelt) but then I realized I'm a marshal so it was kinda my job. So I took out my trusty custom Evans repeater and unleashed hell on the bastards.

No treasure map from any of 'em, dammit.

Busy day so far, and I haven't even gotten to do Showdown yet.

Yesterday I was doing a rescue mission for Hamish - the one at the Roanoke Ridge crater. There's two captives (if you're doing it solo) and no wagon so I figured I may as well nab one before I get there. Lo and behold, I come across a stagecoach not long after leaving Hamish's cabin, lasso the driver and the coach blinks out of existence. Had to kill the driver before he could sic the law on me. I was able to steal an npc's horse though.

Later, Langton sent me off on a paid killing mission in Pike's Basin. I entered from the west and took the left fork. There were a couple guys bunched around the target, so I fired off some shots hoping I'd hit the right guy. I didn't. The target hops on his horse and scales the cliff wall. Lucky for me, he didn't run too far after he gave me the slip.

Spent the first part of the time huntin' birds over in eastern Lemoyne...and OMG the bird despawning is crazy. I was shooting whole flocks of birds and getting only one or two outta every flock. Oh well it's xp so all good.

I spent a few game days fishing over at Cattail Pond. Real good fishin' there. Another good spot, by the way, is at the Kamassa River over where the beavers are (near Huron Glen): good salmon there.

When I got back to town I drank and danced (my new prospector dance emote) in the saloon before passing out lol. Oh and met a few nice players.

Good day all in all.

Think most of my stories will probably end up in that Justice Served thread. Today I just had some random attack me after I spawned in from a story mission. Guessing he was using a springfield or bolt action because my hp quickly dropped from full to half. Luckily, I was near  a short cliff so I leaped off and downed a chewing tobacco. The griefer stood his ground and tried trading shots with me even though I was using Slippery Bastard. Plugged said griefer in the balls with an explosive rifle round from my Carcano. He didn't learn his lesson. Griefer proceeded to follow me even though I was chilling at my camp crafting supplies. He walked into my camp as I lowered the flag and proceeded to choke the life out of him. Shot him a few more times with explosives rounds from Carcano and he finally left. At some point even his friend decided to jump in and I sent him packing after just one explosive round to the chest. Overall fun day so far.

Went to the butcher in Valentine's. Selling a few bird feathers. I was about to hop on my horse when I noticed a blue dot on the map. I turn around and the player decides to shoot at me using the revolver. Shoots 3 times and somehow bullets missed me. I take my shotgun and the rest is history. After getting the kill I checked the level of the player...Level 4...player didn't give up..kept coming at me. After killing him twice more, Player stopped bothering me!   I guess player was a wannabe griefer 😂

Visited Cholla Springs today, and I never wanna go back there again. Damn horse tripped over every f*ckin' rock. Millions of damn rocks everywhere. Reminded me why I prefer the east too: very little decent wildlife to hunt. (Also way more cabins and stuff to loot back east around Hanover & Lemoyne, etc.) Then some dumb ass charges at me for no reason, and before I can swing my rifle up the bastard knocks me down. We must've had similar stamina or whatever cuz we struggled for the longest time, till I finally broke free. He won out in the end though and slammed me to death with the butt of his gun. Then he vanished into the sunset (he was a blue dot so I lost track of him). Eventually I returned home with very little to show for my trouble.

I have a pretty cool story tonight (for a change lol)...so first, I made one more character tonight -- last one for sure. :sigh: I just had to pay tribute to my hands-down favorite character actor, Slim Pickens. So anyway I'm really low level, and I'm out in the bogs of Lemoyne, and I finally spot in the water the second snake I need to finish my dailies (i.e. skin 2 snakes). Aim, miss. Aim, miss. Slippery bastard. He's gettin' away. Ok one more time...aim, hit! got him!

I jump in the water after him, wade out a ways...got him in hand. Then, all of a damn sudden, wham! I'm hit by something, hat goes flyin'. Then I hear a gunshot, and the gator I just got bit by goes down in a blood bath. I survived the attack!

First thing I do is grab the floating snake, then turn to see who shot the gator. Mind you, I'm fully expecting to get shot next. There on the shore, pulling out a fishing rod, is some red-dot player --- not killing me for a change! I didn't pay close attention to his name and certainly didn't take time to look him up in the player list: I just wanted to hurry up and skin my snake.

So he's still just standing there fishing, while I skin my snake and get my daily done. I wave a grateful goodbye, jump on my trusty horse Blaze, and go my way in peace.

After meeting so many mean, no-good, lousy rotten bastards of late, my faith in humanity has been restored! 😂 I never did take the time to look him up to get his name and level, but thanks whoever you were. You saved ole Slim from bein' gator food lol. And didn't even try to steal my snake.

I heard of players teaming up in Gun Rush and it sounded unfair but I tried it out solo and found out they band together because they suck individually lol 🤣

Tried something new. Logged in (spawned in northern Lemoyne), checked map and got away from the blips. Now I'm in the woods somewhere. So I decided to switch off the mini-map and just explore like I was lost. No idea of what blips are where, so that if I come across anybody it's a total surprise.

Holy sh*t it was fun! I pretended I lost my map or something, anyway it was total immersion. Came across a moose and elk, several other animals, and a player, who wasn't psychotic and actually went his own way.

Felt fresh and new. Loved it! Think I'll do this more often.

Was at the butcher in Blackwater, some posse was raising hell with the law. I think he was trying to shoot someone behind me or whatever but I was able to sell my sh*t, whatever.

Anyway, the posse leader comes up and we start fist fighting. Or characters were both massive units; it was like watching two gorillas fighting.

In the end I came out as Alpha Gorilla while he was Alpha Gorilla bitch.

Then his friend choked me out. Thus, I became beta gorilla bitch

I have to admit, melee is so much fun!

The other day I was goofing around, playing some story missions. I ended up playing "Highly Illegal, Highly Moral" and everything went pretty normal for pick up group. Then one dude went off ahead and did the whole ambush, caught the dude and the group just split up. I figured they we're gonna hunt or something, run up the timer so I just casually made my way to the end spot.

Stole a Wagon, had fun.

I got there, waiting, and decided to mess with the first person to come back. I planted dynamite off the side of the road and just waited. I watched the dots and finally one of the team members came riding in hard right down the road in Emerald Ranch. Shot the dynamite right as they passed and sent them flying with horse. No friendly fire so everyone was okay. But their pride was hurt. I could tell when they tried to shoot me then my horse.

Generally don't do that stuff, but once in a while I can't help it.

I laughed so insanely hard. I have a clip of it, I'll put it on here. Or try.

P.T.

So i got two here , both resulted from me trying to find treasure from a treasure map:

1- I was hunting around the yellow area looking for this treasure when all the sudden a pack of rabbid wolves surrounded me. I climbed up on a small rock trying to make it harder for them to get me. I took out about 6-7 of them before one jumped the rock and took me down. I was being mauled ,thought for sure my life was over . As i laideed there unable to do anything but crawl from  the pain and on the verge of  death, I hear gunshots off to my right . A kind stranger ( another online player) comes in and wipes out the remaining Wolves, then comes over and revives me. I was so suprised that 1 someone was even near by when this took place and 2 that they helped me out this way. It helped restore alittle tiny fraction of faith in some of the playerbase.

2- Another time i was hunting treasure, this time it was set in the marsh. I walked up to the marsh edge and see about 6 gators staring at me with their eyes just out of the water. I headshot and kill every one of them i see. So after making sure the coast is clear, i enter the green murky waters. Next thing i know , im up to my chest in this water. Just as im about half way across to the next little island, i get surprise attacked by a big ol gator . Scared me to death , about jumped out of me seat.  Luckily i shook him off and ran to land but the whole time im running im just waiting for his second attack. That is about the scariest moment i've had playing this game . Outside of a surprise mountain lion attack and a grizzly charging downhill at me and mauling me to death ( in first person ) .

Damn asshat swiped my perfect cow pelt off my horse while I was looting a house...I saw him through the kitchen window so I chased after him. As I was running off the porch onto the horse I ragdolled like an idiot. Caught up with him a short while later as he was attempting to deliver a package, took a few shots but I managed to nail him with the bolt-action. Karma.
