Would you have liked if the game ended on a cliff hanger rather than the current ending?

I'm curious about what people think on this subject. I love the story, but at the same time, I equally hate it. Mainly Chapter 5, and 6 and the ending really irked me as I found it cliche and pandering to a basic Hollywood Spaghetti Western narrative cause obviously Rockstar wanted to make the story as if it was a Hollywood film but in the art of a game if that makes sense.

Anyways, my question is how would you have felt if the game was divided? Part I & II? .... What I mean by that is, instead of having a few of the characters wound up in Guarma pointlessly, what if the game ended on a cliff hanger with all of them loosely escaping after losing two characters like Lenny and Hosea. (Keep Kieran, Molly, etc) And the entire gang all getting washed up on Guarma's islands? While that being the time Dutch actually cracks and is seen as crazy? If the game was also divided in parts, they could've utilized more of the map too... Could've included Mexico, used New Austin... Etc I feel like.

That's just my example of a cliff hanger, they honestly could've done anything cliff hanger wise, or are you all happy with Arthur's death as the ending? Personally, if not a cliff hanger ending, I always felt like they should've utilized the honor/dishonor system way better. If players had played honorably entirely, they should've been rewarded with a (good) ending where Arthur walks away and starts a new temporarily life like John did while if you play dishonorably, you get the same ending as current with Micah f*cking you up, I think that would've been by far better and given the player more versatility and actually making the honor/dishonor system actually worth it.

Arthur's ending just felt so quick.... Even the part with the Native American's felt so time consuming and utterly pointless. What also irks me is if they had kept Arthur alive, they easily could've made RD3, and then RD4 could've been "back into time" game.

I actually think they did the ending perfect. It's exactly what I was hoping for and even better than I hoped for actually.

I also don't get the Guarma hate, I loved it. I also like them splitting the family up. John being on Sisika, Charles, Sadie and the rest being at Lakay and the main guns being on Guarma. It made coming back together feel more special.

I think Arthur passing the torch to John was done perfectly as well, it also set up to playing as John afterwards which was the thing I wanted most out of RDR2.

Honestly I'm happy with it, the only thing I would have changed is Micah wouldn't walk off like a complete badass after being shot over a dozen times by John.

Yeah killing Micah could have been done a lot better.

I didn't like how he just kinda shrugged his shoulders before dying.. should have gone into kill cam on the last bullet

It would have been nice to be able to kill Micah however we wanted... set him on fire, throw him off the side of the mountain, dynamite, lynching...

Guarma sucked. Should've been replaced by New Austin. The Indian missions should've been done far better as well. It would also be nice to see "the growth of civilization" kill the gang instead of "stupidity". The epilogues sucked as well. Arthur should've killed Micah but I don't have a problem with him dying of TB. that's the problems I have with the story.

Both chapter 5 and 6 were rubbish tbh, Arthur’s dying was lame, Rockstar’s writing was subpar, but it has never been their strong suit. Since GTA V, Rockstar has been into this Hollywood style production and it’s very cringe to say the least...

This. That must be one of the reasons why I don't seem to enjoy both V and RDR2 as much as their previous games. Gameplay/freedom/fun seems to suffer tremendiously from that cinematic story-telling approach!

The only thing I would have changed is the opening tbh.

If the "Rockstar Games presents" and "Red Dead Redemption 2" titles were inter cut by Dutch and co getting on the ferry and sh*t blowing up in their face, then you were given control of Arthur as he runs to Blackwater, scrambling to get everyone out of there in one piece and trying to understand what the hell is going on, that would have been a lot better.

You'd already bond with certain characters instead of learning to love them only from Chapter 2 and onwards and you'd also understand the definite threat the pinkertons represent to the gang because you've already seen just how f*cking dangerous and overwhelming they can be. Instead, we don't really see how outnumbered and helpless the gang is until the Saint-Denis bank mission which is almost halfway through the campaign.

And Arthur is kind of a dick in chapter 1 as well. But on to the topic at hand. I much rather the ending we got over a cliffhanger BUT It would have been satisfying seeing Arthur kill Micah. Maybe Dutch in his crazyness would kill Arthur for thinking that he's the rat and Micah was right about him turning due to his illness.

Also like Santadar said, a final killcam where John's last bullet goes through Micah's skull and he drops dead.

To be fair, I kinda understand why. A plan in which he had nothing to do with goes horribly wrong and he, along with everyone else, is forced to flee into unknown territory and are reduced to a bunch of starving hermits reclused in a shack in glacier mountains.

I'd be tense as well.

I unloaded 6 explosive rounds into his dick.

So we'd have to wait 10-20 years for the sequel? No thanks.

They shouldn't even of had bothered with the Indian missions, or, at least they could've by Chapter I & II. They just did not connect to the story at all. It just felt like filler so Arthur felt better after all the sins he committed. Didn't like it at all. Yeah, I really wish they had used New Austin, it would've been cool if the story started off from the Blackwater mess, and then them ending up in the mountains, then in New Austin, before heading to the Heartlands or something, or if not, New Austin later. Too bad they couldn't include Mexico in the story either. I really hated Guarma. A great idea that fell flat.

I really wish they had let him lived though. Should've game him a temporarily ending like John got that led up to RD3 and branch off with some side characters (e.g, Charles, Sadie.) And done a trio game of those characters with a different adventure in a completely different place.

I don't mind the Hollywood telling, but the overly cliche and predictable bits is what really irked me. Plus, they have no idea on how to do romance, so the fact that they go for a Hollywood take and approach is funny cause they don't know what to do with Hollywood's #1 which is romance. Lol. After 3 I didn't feel like the story was developing and it sort of went everywhere (especially way too quickly.) It was like meh to me. Plus the T.B inaccuracy was also irritable.
