2-Step Social Club Verification on Google Chrome - A Tutorial

Recommended Posts

I guess they're doing this because so many social club accounts get stolen. I might be mentioning something pretty obvious but glad to have the extra 500k to spend.

Launch up Authy from your Browser Extentions in the top right corner of your screen. Do the required steps in the app. This includes adding your phone number and email.

...

And congratulations sir/madam, you now have 2-step verification on Social Club, without the use of any cellphone device

Erm... How is this "without the use of a cellphone device" if we need a cellphone for Authy?

I set it all up with my laptop. You don't need a phone.

So you don't need to input a number into Authy?

You can use your home phone number, I did it on PC using Chrome.  I don't have a cel phone.

Answer the call, press the number, done.

Tough part is getting Social Club to process the 30 second number code.

Wow... I was skeptical how convoluted everyone was saying that process was, but goodness yeah that was more complicated than it should've been... I appreciate the extra security tho and the 500k.

If it hasn't been said, I think you should actually test this out while all the info is fresh in your mind and try logging in from a new device to make sure you can actually muster the steps when it comes down to it and you have to pass the authentication.

I know that's what I'm about to do LOL.....

Does anyone know if this 2-step verification thing can be used by R* to tackle modders, glitchers, cheaters etc in the future?  Or is it simply for the fact as someone has already mentioned to prevent people's R* accounts from getting stolen?  Just wondering why they've decided to give 500k to anyone who does the 2-step thing...

Yes, this is the only way R* can get access to necessary data to do anything about those things ;)

I know they have other ways, but maybe this would make things easier and quicker for them?

I don't know, I was only joking with my response but this is security for us when logging in so I don't think it will make much difference for them regarding these things. Just what I believe but I don't know much about these things

Edit: security for us when logging in came out a little wrong since it's security making it harder for others logging in on our account but seems it's making it a lot more difficult for us also.. :)

Just curious with the 500k reward for doing it that's all.  Seems generous of them to give us something that would only benefit us...

Lol R* has made me WAY too suspicious all the time.

But it won't affect their shark card sales either, you get engine upgrades and  a couple of paint jobs for that money :)

edit: was the maintenance yesterday to make it a little easier to do this?

Meh.  Currently sitting on 57 million, all from grinding and never bought a single shark card in my life.  The 500k is still welcome though.

Hey everyone.

Since I had a rough time to get the 2-step verification thingy to work on PC, as we didn't get any instructions on how to, I might aswell post it here.

Many thanks, fella. You did great job.

Anyone know the ETA on payouts?  It has been over 24 hours for me and nothing yet.  Although some hours ago I logged in to RDR2 and it said I had a gift, but I didnt see anything new.  I went ahead and logged on to GTA Online for the first time in a long while and had to use the 2 step process, as I play GTA on PC, and it worked and I got logged in, but no cash there either.

I am doing this right and my connection from my internet is just fine but I keep getting Authentication failed, please try again. >.< I even rebooted my internet box.

I'm in the same boat, waiting to hear back from rockstar support about it, tried it on different browsers, different devices, different authenticators, nothing working for me no idea what the issue could be.

I tried google chrome in which is my main browser, my phone in which I only use for business and not pleasure. I also tried firefox, opera and safari. No bite.

the damn verify code thing is a pain in the ass, it's telling me to click on these images and when I get them right, it just keeps saying "Authentication failed, please try again" or I would get a message sometimes saying a timeout error has occurred

This currently only works with the Google Chrome browser, but there's also a desktop version of the program here if you don't have Google Chrome. However, this tutorial is about the Chrome version.

Note that Authy is supported by Rockstar Games, and is not a stranger-danger program.

  1. Click on this link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/authy/gaedmjdfmmahhbjefcbgaolhhanlaolb?hl=en and add Authy as a Chrome Extention to your browser, so that it shows up here:
    mksMyhj.png

  2. Sign into Social Club.

  3. Click on your Social Club Icon -> Settings -> 2-Step Verification.

  4. Click on "Setup" here:
     eGaYlTZ.png

  5. Your screen should now look like this:
    OGKUL6z.png

  6. Your Secret Key is likely some random gibberish numbers and letters.
Launch up Authy from your Browser Extentions in the top right corner of your screen. Do the required steps in the app. This includes adding your phone number and email.

  7. Once done with the Authy program, it should look like this:
    WvIYvTA.png

  8. Change your Master Password. This password is local to the computer you're using Authy with. Pick a password you're sure to remember.

  9. Once done with that, click on "Add Authenticator Account". Where it says "Enter Code", you simply copy-pasta the "Secret Key" from Social Club, and click "Add Account". You can then choose what kind of logo it should have and all that stuff, and what the authenticator name should be called. For reference, I just called mine "Social Club Verification Code". Click "Done" once you're done.

  10. Click on the "X" on the box, so it closes. It should immediately pop up with a screen that looks like this:
    4GcV0RY.png

  11. Click on the local name you've given your authendicator. The screen should now look like this:
    Is1PcYQ.png

  12. Every 30 seconds, the six randomly generated numbers will change. Be quick to click "Copy", so that it saves the six appearing numbers in your clipboard. Quickly paste the numbers into Social Club here:
    20vi509.png
You also need to type in your Social Club password.

  13. Click "Verify", and the page should load for a minute. Once the page has loaded completely, log out of Social Club, and in again. It will promt you to enter a verification code:
    YSX5JF9.png

Simply click on Authy from your Browser Extentions in the top right corner of your screen, and click the local name you've given your authendicator. Click "Copy" to copy it to the clipboard, and paste it into the verification code box.

  14. Click "Submit".

And congratulations sir/madam, you now have 2-step verification on Social Club, without the use of any cellphone device.

On Social Club, if you go to the "2-Step Verification" tab, you'll be able to see where your account was logged in at, and what device has access to your Social Club without the use of the 2-Step Verification method.

Do NOT delete the Authy extention/program, or any other authendication app afterwards. If you do, you could run the risk of getting locked out of your Social Club, and deal with Rockstar Support.

Doesn't Authy save the codes when moving to another new computer and install Authy and Does all your codes still there?

Unlike the Google authenidcator doesn't save codes while moving to new phone.

I'll stick with the phone number message. or either rockstar make it for email code auther (like ROBLOX have)

I just did with the authenticator app. Got an email saying i have 2 step verification. We'll see how long it takes to my "gift". Its real simple with the app.
