2-Step Social Club Verification on Google Chrome - A Tutorial

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

Since I had a rough time to get the 2-step verification thingy to work on PC, as we didn't get any instructions on how to, I might aswell post it here.

This currently only works with the Google Chrome browser, but there's also a desktop version of the program here if you don't have Google Chrome. However, this tutorial is about the Chrome version.

Note that Authy is supported by Rockstar Games, and is not a stranger-danger program.

  1. Click on this link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/authy/gaedmjdfmmahhbjefcbgaolhhanlaolb?hl=en and add Authy as a Chrome Extention to your browser, so that it shows up here:
    mksMyhj.png

  2. Sign into Social Club.

  3. Click on your Social Club Icon -> Settings -> 2-Step Verification.

  4. Click on "Setup" here:
     eGaYlTZ.png

  5. Your screen should now look like this:
    OGKUL6z.png

  6. Your Secret Key is likely some random gibberish numbers and letters.
Launch up Authy from your Browser Extentions in the top right corner of your screen. Do the required steps in the app. This includes adding your phone number and email.

  7. Once done with the Authy program, it should look like this:
    WvIYvTA.png

  8. Change your Master Password. This password is local to the computer you're using Authy with. Pick a password you're sure to remember.

  9. Once done with that, click on "Add Authenticator Account". Where it says "Enter Code", you simply copy-pasta the "Secret Key" from Social Club, and click "Add Account". You can then choose what kind of logo it should have and all that stuff, and what the authenticator name should be called. For reference, I just called mine "Social Club Verification Code". Click "Done" once you're done.

  10. Click on the "X" on the box, so it closes. It should immediately pop up with a screen that looks like this:
    4GcV0RY.png

  11. Click on the local name you've given your authendicator. The screen should now look like this:
    Is1PcYQ.png

  12. Every 30 seconds, the six randomly generated numbers will change. Be quick to click "Copy", so that it saves the six appearing numbers in your clipboard. Quickly paste the numbers into Social Club here:
    20vi509.png
You also need to type in your Social Club password.

  13. Click "Verify", and the page should load for a minute. Once the page has loaded completely, log out of Social Club, and in again. It will promt you to enter a verification code:

Simply click on Authy from your Browser Extentions in the top right corner of your screen, and click the local name you've given your authendicator. Click "Copy" to copy it to the clipboard, and paste it into the verification code box.

  14. Click "Submit".

And congratulations sir/madam, you now have 2-step verification on Social Club, without the use of any cellphone device.

On Social Club, if you go to the "2-Step Verification" tab, you'll be able to see where your account was logged in at, and what device has access to your Social Club without the use of the 2-Step Verification method.

Do NOT delete the Authy extention/program, or any other authendication app afterwards. If you do, you could run the risk of getting locked out of your Social Club, and deal with Rockstar Support.

@Classique Fantastic post!  I wouldn't have been able to do this without your guide, so massive thanks!

But jeez, what an absolute BALL ACHE that was!!!  This thing almost has as much security as my online bank accounts lol.

I appreciate the detailed instructions, but now I really don't want to do it. No disrespect, just turned off by jumping through all these hoops.

yep its more complicated that it needs to be, i mean i have 2 step on everything from my email and psn to my paypal and bank account and none of that is as complicated as this 😂

all the others are as simple as "enable 2 step" enter phone number, confirm, done.

I'm proper lost on this, lol.

When I go to my R* social account and click on the 2-step verification tab, it shows:

'2 step verification device'

Then says..

'this is the device that generates your 2 step verification code'

Followed by..

'Authenticator app' with my email written next to it but almost all of it is ***'s

It then has the option to 'remove'

If this makes any sense, sorry. Have I done it all ok?

Appreciate any help as that took a very frustrating 45 minutes to get to that point before I almost threw the phone at the wall. f*cking nightmare crap just makes me feel stupid and pisses me off, lol.

Awesome to see this guide and I recognise many images you posted though, just not the last snapshot. Thanks @Classique for trying to make this easier. If I messed it up, I'll just pass on all this pap though. :)

Set up 2 step no problem, turn on ps4 start gta V and get a message saying deduction of $2,883,823 for reconciliation, bugger, then checked rdr and didn't get any gold for that either, wish I hadn't bothered, nevermind

The cash/gold will take a few days to come through, usual practice.

The cash deductions are because you, I'm assuming, did a recent glitch that R* are showing to be taking a harder line against. ;)

It seems they're deducting all the latest glitch money.

Just a deduction? Not a wipe? Well that's nice, time to sell some scramjet(s) i guess 😂

If you happen to use Google Authenticator, DO NOT DELETE THE CODE GENERATOR. I thought I was done with it, so I deleted it and now I have no way of generating verification codes. When I try to log in though, it still asks for verification codes without giving that secret key again (which I assumed it would do every time), so I've locked myself out of my account and feel like quite the fool. Gotta talk to R* support now.

Oh dude, thank you for posting this!

R*'s was ridiculously vague and complicated. Microsoft Authenticator's FAQ was just as bad, if not worse. it took me a good 30 minutes to figure this sh*t out.

I eventually went the app route, I used Microsoft Authenticator.

- Open the App.

- Tap the ellipses & choose add new account.

- Choose Other Accounts.

- Copy the Secret Code from R*'s page & paste it in the app.

- Copy the generated code from the app & paste in R*'s page, be quick you only got 30 seconds before the code is invalid.

- Follow the remaining steps.

That's it. Don't delete the app.

Yes, you did it all ok indeed

All you need to do now is:

Sign out from social club and sign in again: you will be requested a verification code (6,7 or 8 digits) that will be given to you by authy

---> you're device is set. Next time you sign in to social club using this device, you won't need any verification code

@Classique Thank you very much for this guide. Big thumbup :^:

It's more complicated than most of the glitches on the other site. Just hope I won't lost my crew paint and bookmarked job on multiple accounts without dealing with it.

You will not lose anything on Social Club for not doing the 2-step verification progress. Your Crew colour, jobs, stats and everything else will stay no matter what.

The reason I made this tutorial was to help people who don't want to use their mobile phones to activate the 2-step verification. Especially now, since Rockstar Games offers a bonus of $500.000 GTAO$ and 10 Gold Bars in RDO, and makes you eligible for future verification bonuses.

I'd do this if they were paying more than two millions, but only 500k for some a nuisance is just not for me.

Sure, the extra security is cool and all, but I literally don't give two sh*ts about Social Club anyway.

@Classique thanks for the thread dude. Much appreciated.

Might as well take the money and gold while it's on offer, who knows what the future benefits will be, but I'll gladly accept those as well.

Is the possible to do with Google Authenticator like here on the forums? Or does it have to be with the Authy browser extension? I use my phone mostly so is it possible to do it from that?
