Potter145
I bought it today for the daily challenge to kill 5 players. After I equipped the Carcano I initiated a Posse Versus (so that I don't get low honor and my blip stays blue). Although you can only free aim, I racked up a surprising amount of kills from the distance. Since the last update it is 1 shot 1 kill. I mainly picked off slow players or those on rooftops or behind cover. It's kinda satisfying to 1 shot kill someone running from the distance with a body shot. I wouldn't recommend spending money on upgrades, since it is free aim, already has a long range and deals massive damage. EDIT: To sum it up... It is fun to use the rifle in a casual shootout in free roam, where you can find a good position by gaining some high ground and getting some distance between you and the other players. But in every other structured activity in the game it is not competitive, if you want to win consistently. It's basically there for fun and sometimes it's useful. Talisman_83
If the Carcano is now a 1 shot, same as Rolling Block, is there any need to own the latter since the Carcano can rapid fire? wehweh01

Well with certain ability cards and tonics it is not a 1 shot. But the average player can be killed by 1 body shot. So to definitely 1 shot everybody you need the upgraded rolling block with offensive ability cards. But overall the Carcano Rifle is much better and I would recommend it over the Rolling Block Rifle. Keep in mind I 1 shot players without any offensive ability cards or dead eye. But to answer your question: If you have the Carcano, there is no need for the Rolling Block. The Carcano Rifle is overall the better choice because of reloading speed and the ability to rapid fire like you said. U Carmine

IamCourtney
I held off buying a sniper when they were underpowered but seems like Carcano is the way to go now that they're worthwhile...
TheLordMarvel
I enjoyed the time I spent with it a couple of days ago. Got some nice kills from it. I actually have a question to add: How is it for hunting? I always find myself searching for a sniper to scope out a deer or whatevs but alas I don't have one. Is it too powerful for that? Happy Hunter
I'm more of a Rolling Block sniper, don't have the Carcano yet. Rolling Block is slower, but more powerful - just seems fitting for a sniper. To be fair, the Carcanos I've used in Name Your Weapon - those are stock, and without express rounds. The fully upgraded Carcano, with the right ammo - that may well be better than the Rolling Block, I'm not sure. But for now I stick with my current sniper. For everything else (Mastercard) Bolt Action Rifle It really depends on how the animal or bird needs to be killed. Some will say repeater, rifle, scoped rifle, bow, small arrow, improved (poison). You get the idea. But yeah, rolling block would dish the highest dps for rifle category. High dps may be irrelevant if the animal was killed by headshot, brainshot or even heart shot. Killing a fox with bolt action would be no-go because to get 3* or 2*, it says needs to be killed by repeater (or bow works / throwing knives). Ronin Ogami
I use my lancaster for small/medium game (birds, foxes, coyotes & such) & the bolt action for pretty much everything else. Almost any "one shot" kill (on three star game) gets me a perfect pelt (birds notwithstanding) Edited March 5, 2019 by Ronin Ogami
Chrismads
I like my rolling block and I wouldn't throw more money at sniper rifles. I only use it to stealth snipe red dots and rooftop morons. Sometimes hunting, but thats mostly for fun. In pvp it has never really been useful for me. Some ppl claim that the reload time isn't even much quicker on the carcano Happy Hunter
wehweh01
Carcano is pretty fun whether you're hunting or just wanna own story missions or embarrass PVPers who think they're all that and a bag of chips. JustCallMeNiko
For some reason I don't like how the sniper rifles work in this game...the way it just goes directly to the scope makes it awkward for me..might just need to get used to it but I prefer the way these rifles work in GTA.. yeezy203
SuperJude™
Rolling Block is stronger and has more range according to stats. I don't know, didn't like the Carcano in the first Red Dead but might give it a chance here.
