Does the game ever say what route the gang took from Blackwater to Colter?

I can't buy this version of "marston scouts ahead."..  Javier and Arthur track the horse back west to John.  There is no way John has a camp and his horse east of him in your proposal here, but that was how it was done.

 

He would have to have split off at "the fault line divide" on the gangs southern trip and work westward.

 

Also, if Arthur had scouted ahead the line you've shown here (east of the spiger gorge), how did the wagons know to take the route you've shown west of the spider gorge?

That was my theory, a few months back. There's no evidence to back it, It was just my take on where they could have gone. I only posted the image here to show the cutscene loctions for context.
