How long do you think red dead online will last at this rate

I doubt they'll pull the plug entirely but I could see RDO being moved to the back burner for good with fewer updates even less often than we're used to if it they feel they haven't turned it around enough within a certain timeframe.

It will come along....eventually.

They're being slow and I don't know if it's intentional or they got caught with their pants down when the micro-transaction and loot boxes backlash really kicked into high gear towards the end of RDR2's development.  They likely had a bunch of stuff planned out and now they can't do it, so they have this system held together with spit and bandaids.

Eventually they'll start coming out with the better content that'll draw in the crowds again, but until then, it's going to be a slow-AF paced game.  I've played quite a bit of online but have taken my time, because the content that is there just isn't that engaging and a lot of it is forced.

  1. No real PvE content - the story missions are too infrequent.  They need something like "Heists" to really get sh*t going in online.
  2. PvP game modes - forced into lobbies you want no part of.  Honestly, their games are...meh (except Most Wanted), and at times unbalanced in the scoring (Name Your Weapon).  The fact we can't just choose which game modes we want to play and are forced to play whatever comes next for the group is just stupid - especially when you have little interest in what's available.
  3. Daily Challenges are better - but again, forcing PvP and Posse play is stupid.  Some people just want to be loners - even myself who enjoys a good gang fight needs to step back and play a few days without others.  At least give us the option to cancel a few and get others as a replacement (limit of like 3 or 4).
  4. Can't hold up a store, can't rob a bank, rob a stagecoach, etc....seriously, we're outlaws.  Why do I need to ASK someone else if I can go rob something?  The best thing we got right now is lassoing some rider on the trail, dragging them into the woods, robbing them blind...and if we're nice we leave them there to escape later (often times I pick them up and find the nearest bridge to throw them off).

What they won't do is pull the plug on the game.  They might totally redo it, but they won't pull the plug.

GTA Online has not died numbers wise, but it has severely wounded the franchise and died inside. It more resembles Saints Row now, which pulls in the kiddies. I know there are still mature and organised crews as well who have not abandoned it yet, such as the photographers, roleplayers, racers, etc. But if I, who made it to level 500 in GTAO and played since day 1, now refuse to go anywhere near it, then I am pretty sure there will be others who also feel the same way. It's fine to have an audience of kids who will beg for mommies credit card at every little addition, but when you start to lose the real fans, who have been there since the start, and logged thousands of hours, that's when you know things are bad. I'm sure GTA will continue on for many years, but that doesn't mean it hasn't sold its soul and died metaphorically speaking.

As for RDO, I find it very hard to believe that anyone could get "caught up in the moment" for this patch. There was nothing of value. You can't call clothes and emotes a substantial update. New maps or the Creator mode for example, would be worth getting excited for. The biggest change in this update was probably the bounty system, which is completely broken, and charges you for defending yourself, among other problems, lol. They said they wanted to combat griefers, and added daily challenges that require you to grief other players.

It's a whole different situation than GTA. In GTA, we had the creator mode in the first few months. Substantial content that helped keep the game alive and still does to this day. The Editor was also amazing and would fit this game perfectly. Instead? A new emote for 13 gold or 300 dollars. So, when people say RDO is dying, in this case, I think it is justified, and very true.

I know it’s kind of gotten to the point where “it’s in beta” has to be a meme or a joke, but I think regardless, Rockstars gonna take this at their own pace. They’re not gonna try and build Rome in a day. It’ll be a consistent buildup and in typical fashion will fluctuate along the way. There is no real timeframe for quality. Making something legitimately good means making something that will stand the test of time and that in my experience cant be rushed.

Dude I left GTA for this game. GTAO which I played faithfully since release until what? November something when this came out. Don't get me started on the amount of hours I spent in that virtual wonderland. This game could be that wonderland. I see it. R* doesn't see it though.

If R* doesn't make serious changes to the game soon I believe it won't even survive until 2020. The thing is, if it fails, we can expect a new game announcement sooner, and that's actually exciting news!

Not long at all.

Browse any tweet, youtube video or post from Rockstar and look at the comments. It's a wave of negativity the likes of which I have not seen before. And they are all saying the same things that are wrong with the game. I have seen articles written on gaming websites and videos being made by YouTubers who do not even normally cover Red Dead, who are discussing how unhappy the playerbase is. Unless drastic action is taken, and by drastic action I mean the next update needs to be HUGE. They also need a community manager, or literally ANYONE who can actually communicate with the players. Rockstar's wall of silence will not fly in an online environment with overpriced microtransactions and very little content, and stealth nerfs to hunting. It is truly sickening behaviour.

The game has TDM, but only has ONE TDM map !!!! And on top of that, you can't choose TDM. You have to hope it comes up in a random showdown lobby, otherwise, tough sh*t. People will not stand for this sh*t much longer. The game must be losing many, many players by now. But I have no idea where you can actually check for yourself how many people are playing. Without that kind of information, it's not possible to say the game is dying (number wise), however, it is certainly dying inside and losing the company a lot of respect.

Look at your friends list of who is still playing, We needed 2 x 7 man posses 8 weeks ago all friends now its down to 2 or 3 friends playing now

So true, lol. So true.

53 on my list, all heavy R* fans. I can count on one hand how many still play, lol. Most ran back to GTA, some other games too. A few pop on for story mode though as that really is a gem.

They really do. A little transparency could go a long way.

More fool me though, I guess I haven't learned since the GTAO heyday and am still expecting things to change like the idiot that I am

It will last years. People have short memories and these initial teething problems will be forgotten once large DLC starts to drop. R* will do sh*tloads of marketing and will bring in more people to fill the space of those who got upset over this update and left. The game is 4 months old and brings in a 5th of the revenue that GTAO which is pretty impressive. As the game gets more fleshed out I think revenue and thus support will grow for ages.

They really do. I wouldn't expect them to post here, although it would be nice, but several devs do communicate with their player base on Reddit.

A community manager would be a big step in the right direction, in my opinion.

Community management is 100% essential in the era of games as a live service. All you need to do is look at how Ubisoft and Massive handled the blunder of the Division's first year and how preorders for the sequel were astronomical based primarily on how well they listen and respond to the playerbase.

This is a great point, community management does make a huge difference to fans and players.

To me, R* seem to have the attitude that players will buy their next game regardless. Which is especially true of GTA, no matter how badly they might f*ck up RDO, how much of a meme GTAO continues to become, whether Bully 2 happens or not or how long GTA VI inevitably gets delayed by it will sell in huge numbers, probably even breaking the records GTA V and RDR2 set.

It's arrogant, but they'll more than likely back that arrogance up with record numbers, so they don't seem to care, which is a great shame from my perspective.

Left GTAO in 2016.

2013-2016 it was good, especially 2013-2014. Then the Saints Row effect kicked in and i had enough. I wanted to get back into it but when i read there was a flying bike, i laughed and never looked back. From what i read/hear it's even worse now.

I completely agree with everyone’s frustration but personally I just recall how GTAO started out. Slow, at the time the outlook of its future was  dismal. BUT, slowly but surely it got good, real good, to the point they decided skip it let’s just get radical with these updates and add flying motor bikes with missiles. That’s when I left. Thankfully the era RDO is based on we won’t get flying wagons. I just want to know, if I’m the only one who believes R* will do the same here with RDO as they did with GTAO. A slow start, then a beautiful rise to the peak. Finally, I want to know am I the only one who is grinding and saving up as much money as I can in anticipation for future updates? (Knowing how R* will over price everything)

It’ll pick up sooner or later. Hopefully the facts and figures of its failures will open R*’s eyes, forcing them to give us more content and cheaper items

Its tough to say, it should receive updates for another year at least.  They can go a lot of directions with this game.  It could remain simple or we could all be riding flying dragons in 5 years.  If you compare to GTAO, progress isnt limited to realism.

I think a lot of the probelms people complain about here will be addressed.  Separate lobbies, lack of missions, robbing stores and people, possibly gambling in online.  If all these were added, a lot of people would be lifers like in GTAO.  It could probably steal some GTAO players with just gambling.

I personally spent a good bit of time in LS, and I am just so glad to have a change of scenery for my gaming.  I am pretty much done.  I do not know if I can handle passive mode again.

It's already dead!

There is no content online, and after you spend all that time in story-mode, online is just a giant let down. They should have went the polar opposite of gtao. Should have made RDO a 95% PvE experience....

the first patch in rdo (i dont this crap a update) was adding nothing. its even the opposite, they didnt fix major bugs and even mission are missing

Its funny how a lot of people are unhappy with something they bought by them selfs

it raises the question, are they that spoiled.

Ever made a small program by yourself ..instead of hunting deers..did you hunt for a bug in your software?

Nowadays the software is quit smart

with, you can update live on the fly a program with pre defined parameters

(yeah Linux)

only catch is, you can expect other sh*t, which you cant circumvent around the problem, no you have to check al the parameters in your software

with a game its not different, bigger crew of debuggers perhaps

thing is

i am sure there are some sweating like hell to fix all the issues

So

please, do make a calculator

and see if its running

point is

i dont believe in moneysucking companies

(thats your and our goverments, they suck the living sh*t out of you)

Give this a chance, most of all, dont expect to much

its a huge problem nowadays

i see it with my daughter

never satisfied

hell I was happy with an old bike in my younger days

Every game is pulled down on social media with negativity

dont shoot me here

but shoot me ingame and keep it nice

but thats my humble opinion

sorry bout the typo’s

this fingering on a mobile isnt my thing

Am I spoilt if I buy a big mac meal and it come to me burnt and I ask for another? Or should I suffer the distasteful burger and not act entitled to complain/share my concerns.

Many buy things and aren't always satisfied, that's life. Difference is, McDonald's will rectify the situation and listen to the complaint and address it, especially if said negative complaints shows up all over the place, lol. R* Just go deaf to it all.

Look at the latest glitches. People are exploiting cash, many want the game fixed and to grow but R*'s answer is to stop people selling their hunt, taking more content away from an already lacking game. Can't make it up.

RDR2 SP was carefully planted bait, wrapped inside awesome visuals and catchy main story and as such it never meant to provide long-term enjoyment for the players, but simply to cover our eyes. That singleplayer experience is diaper disposable, and once you beat it there's no real need to get back in there to do anything. Highly overrated piece considering every gameplay aspect outside scripted missions is either unfinished, broken or missing and if it's there already in its full, then it's boring.

I cannot be more happy to see 0nline portion suffers like this, I hope shareholders will have good times playing it while throwing money at it in form of microtransactions, coz soon they'll be the only ones to play this predatory practice experiment. They deserve it, after all it has been made for them.

The problem is that they do have a time limit- unlike SP, which can bake for as long as needed before a release, Online has to retain its playerbase or else it'll fail. And unlike GTAO, RDO faces an increasingly crowded online game market along with streaming services and whatnot.

That means players currently playing the game have to be entertained, they can't be left hanging until things are 'ready'. Because they'll go play something else, and often times they don't come back. IMO this means that we'll probably be seeing a lot of dripfed low-effort content and game modes before anything substantial happens, if only to keep some level of interest in the game.

IMO Online was released too early, they should have waited until late spring/summer and tided over players with some small SP updates in the meantime. Because they released too early, first impressions are already done for, and even if they re-release Online going out of Beta, it's not going to feel the same as Release day.

On top of that, it also means that fixing some game design issues becomes harder as you have to be designing around a playable build of the game, without the freedom that comes with pre-release builds- the playerbase can't be rocked too much.

We didn't buy RDO, we bought RDR2, the story mode. I would happily have paid another £40 for RDO however, if it actually had any significant content and was fairly bug-free. Truth is, it's just a big mess.

Rockstar are a triple-A company who made a billion dollars from GTA5 in 3 days, and the same with RDR2. It's inexcusable to be launching an online experience in this state, and then not even communicating with the players or listening to what they are saying. If they were a small indie dev team you could understand, but after the brilliance of RDR2 story mode and all the money they have made, they could have made RDO much, much better than the state it is in. They could easily hire more devs at the drop of a hat. People would cut off their arm to work at Rockstar. They could hire hundreds of people and get them working on RDO and making it the great game that it could be. Instead they move at a snails pace and release nothing of any value, and when the so-called "update" drops, with it's "300 bug fixes" as Rockstar claim, they negate to mention the fact that the new update also broke 300 other things in the game.

It is just NOT GOOD ENOUGH for a company of this size, and you, the consumer, should NOT ACCEPT THIS. If you do, then other game companies will do similar things in the future and think they can get away with it. I will praise RDR2 story mode until I am 6 feet under the ground. Rockstar made one of the greatest single player experiences I will ever witness. I loved it with a passion and that will never change. But I will not accept this trash Online experience from a company with over 20 years experience in making ground-breaking games. Rockstar themselves should not accept this either, where is their pride?

Thought this point was worth bringing up as a side note... you should never judge a book by it's cover. It's a very important lesson to learn in life. That McDonalds employee you speak of may be studying at university and doing it only as a way to make a bit of extra money on the side. It's unwise to judge others unless you have walked in their shoes, or at least got to know them first. Just my opinion.

If mtx wasn't released I would've told you all to cut R* some slack and wait for the game to be out of beta before calling it.

I get if ppl can't regard it as a beta because of the mtx. I couldn't at first, but I dunno now.

They added some cool things in the last update, and if they'd just fix the bounty system, stubble, horse bonding and add wagons, i'd be happy playing the game years to come.

If they redid the whole bounty system, letting players act as bounty hunters I would be totally stoked and play this game forever
