How long do you think red dead online will last at this rate

Recommended Posts

Read dead online is dying day by day, but how much longer can it actually last with the lack of content from rockstar

By my calculations, about 19.37 days.  But if one of the new showdown modes is anything like the hugely popular Grab the Bag from rdr1, Rockstar will have enough to carry them until a heist update.

That's a very specific estimation.

I wish everyone would be that specific with time.

A single game mode isn't going to make a difference. It will keep a few people who already play busy for a while but unless they get the finger out, get the game out if Beta, fix the bugs, add proper content and provide different lobby types the game will have already peaked.

I've seen flies trapped in the house that have lived longer than Red Dead Online.

I could honestly be happy in this mixed lobby if deadeye accuracy was 100% and Paint It Black was nerfed against Slippery users.

Cannibalism is the only thing that can kill a rockstar game.  RDR online will be relevant until GTA VI.

In the words of Homer Simpson- "Not fast enough!"

Quote

According to the latest findings from SuperData, Red Dead Online is earning 500% less than GTA Online. The game's monetization system, which sees players spending money for premium gold to unlock weapons, skins, and even emotes, hasn't caught fire the same was GTA Online did.

"Red Dead Redemption 2 Online (beta) fails to pick up momentum. RDR2 Online (beta) revenue fell by 14% month-over-month in January due in part to declining MAU levels. Combined sales from both RDR2 Online (beta) and GTA V Online, which makes about 5x more than RDR2 Online (beta) from in-game spending, were flat year-over-year versus GTA V Online alone last January," SuperData wrote in its latest report.

The potential for content - I don't see as very flexible, although the general gameplay aspect will keep the game alive for quite awhile longer.

Good question. GTAO was insane the first 3 months. RDO has been fun but far from insane these first 3 months.
GTAO had lobby options and lots to do from day 1 while RDO has not.
GTAO location and time offers more added content possible than RDO.
GTAO has more mass appeal while RDO is more niche appeal.

Overall RDO could last for years but with much fewer long timers than GTAO.

Hmmm nice bike

It could last for a couple of years, but it is not going to have anywhere close to the player base or profitability of GTA Online. Maybe two years before they just give up on updating it if the player base and Gold Bar sales turn out to be THAT abysmal.

Just give it time. It'll definitely lose alot more people than it should have but I do believe it'll be on its own two feet at some point.

Happy Hunter

It'll probably spend a few months dead, then be revived by some update.

Whether the revival lasts depends on whether or not they really go all out, flood free mode with stuff to do. And I'm not talking free mode events either. I mean stuff you can get into right there and then. Card games, robberies, side activities, and so on.

It could last years... if shown proper care and consideration with quality content.

Or it could last months if R* continue to add nothing but dripfed hats and no content other than a token adversary mode once in a blue moon.

The game itself is so good, more and more people will buy it just to see what the fuss is about and then eventually try the online portion.  So I think it will be fine. Not to mention the online portion is still so new, and has so much yet to be altered and added it is unreal. I didnt even realize there was going to be a RDR2 online when I bought the game.  So this is all just a pleasant surprise for me.

Well, nickel-and-diming players in a BETA certainly doesn't help.

The lack of earnings is deserved in my opinion. Maybe introduce some elements of game design that aren't based around cynical, shameless monetization practices and perhaps players might want to engage a little more.

It's junk already. I mean how can a mute cowboy Rob and steal. The story mode made the game and the ending made no sense to me. There's a lot they could do but GTA is their baby. Myself I haven't been on rdro since Christmas. My son plays. I guess itd be a great hunting simulation from 1900

Content can only last and keep people playing for so long. If they don't change some fundamental game design decisions I doubt it will last that long. And with the monetization practices they really shoot themselves in the foot.

They're not even subtle about PVP focus. Which means, lifespan would definitely be longer if they implement the best PVP model ever in Rockstar games, ergo RDR 1, ergo Grab the Bag, Hold your Own, Gang Shootout, Mexican Standoofs at the start, even Stronghold from RDR 1 was a top notch PVP mode. Like you wrote, we're talking about popular, fan favorite stuff from the original RDR multiplayer.

But let's not forget Free Roam modes like Land Grab. Or mini games like Liar's Dice, Poker, Horseshoe, etc.

Honestly, so many good ideas that players embraced with arms wide open, and they've already did it once. Makes me wonder why they didn't use modes previously mentioned as a template and keep building on that.

Bear in mind, this post was written considering RDR 2 current state and messages Rockstar is sending to player base: PVP. That's why i didn't mentioned Lobby choice, PVE stuuf. Everything RDR 1 had by the way.

I guess I had pie in the sky hopes based on R*s comments about OL when the game was announced. I thought by now we'd all be running ranches and other activities by day and gambling on riverboats by night. I'll keep playing but gotta admit, sometimes I'm standing there thinking - well let's see,  N, S, E or W?

I had hoped for something heavy on roleplaying opportunities.

The sad part is that everyone hoped for heavy RP elements but we got this.

Had they just listened to us, the sensible players, RDRO would be flourishing..  But nope, they keep hearing PVP and BR modes.

R*/Take Two are faced with the choice of splitting resources between GTAO and RDO to try and get RDO on its feet, knowing full well it probably will never be as big as GTAO even under the best of conditions, or deciding to go with what's proven to work and putting all reources towards GTAO, killing RDO in the process.

It's funny, I was playing RDRO for a bit and ended up quiting and installed GTA V again. Haven't played GTAO in about 3 years and now I have that urge to jump in and see what I've missed. If their plan is to push people from RDR Online back to GTA Online then it seems to be working😀.

Pressure Drop

Not long at all.

Browse any tweet, youtube video or post from Rockstar and look at the comments. It's a wave of negativity the likes of which I have not seen before. And they are all saying the same things that are wrong with the game. I have seen articles written on gaming websites and videos being made by YouTubers who do not even normally cover Red Dead, who are discussing how unhappy the playerbase is. Unless drastic action is taken, and by drastic action I mean the next update needs to be HUGE. They also need a community manager, or literally ANYONE who can actually communicate with the players. Rockstar's wall of silence will not fly in an online environment with overpriced microtransactions and very little content, and stealth nerfs to hunting. It is truly sickening behaviour.

The game has TDM, but only has ONE TDM map !!!! And on top of that, you can't choose TDM. You have to hope it comes up in a random showdown lobby, otherwise, tough sh*t. People will not stand for this sh*t much longer. The game must be losing many, many players by now. But I have no idea where you can actually check for yourself how many people are playing. Without that kind of information, it's not possible to say the game is dying (number wise), however, it is certainly dying inside and losing the company a lot of respect.

People will still be swearing up and down this game is dying 3 years from now. They do it with gta too. Every update.. every couple of months. But Rockstar is too calculated and people get to caught up in the moment. Every..single.. time
