Rammer2k
For the petty amount you get from missions, events, etc, to the overall price to spend it on the decent things. Is Gold even useful? Sure you can blow some real cash and buy Gold, (which Rockstar would greatly love), but even still. You still have to grind away XP and rank up high enough to be able to buy some of the nicer things. They should have stuck with just one currency, and leave it as that. Hell, even with GTA, I always thought it was a nice balance between those who wanted to buy Shark Cards, and those who just play the game to earn cash. But then again, we're still in Beta. Who knows what this game will be like a year from now. Ronin Ogami
DonnieVega
Well hopefully, in a year from now, "beta is over" and they'll have released a couple of major updates including one centered around gambling. Which is exactly why we need two currencies. I also find this economy quite comparable to GTA's economy in terms of balance. Plenty of opportunity to buy stuff from all categories without really being forced to spend anything on microtransactions. But I'm sure quite a big percentage of players will buy a little gold here or there anyway, just because we needwant stuff. Riznind
U Carmine
If someone had a lot of gold but little money, they could spend more gold or not buy it all with money. If someone had a lot of money but little gold, they'll be encourage to spend real money for gold or encouraged to earn gold. So this kinda makes it so we need an even balance and plentiful of both gold and money. Some activities give more money. Some gives more gold. It's just an alternative buying option. Shopkeeper: "That will be $1,000.00." *You check bank but realise you don't have enough. Buuuut... you have a lot of gold* You: How about __.__ gold instead? Zoop_Leroy
Seems kinda useless right now, but I think Rockstar is using beta to monitor the ratio of gold to money spent for the entire playerbase. If it's not to their liking (i.e. greater than 1 to 100), we'll see more and more items locked behind gold and mt. U Carmine
U Carmine
I'm sitting on nearly 300.00 gold because they don't get used much. This is when gold become nearly pointless if can't be used for something. But good thing they brought gold-only clothes. I hope more content comes that's gold-only so gold is not useless much.

Rafae S
yes some items are only purchasable via gold.
Ryan5252
As @DonnieVega mentioned, gambling. It's the only logical reason MTX is seperate from in game currency. Adding Gold only weapons, clothes etc is to build up a consumer base to supplement the gambling when it eventually comes along.
wehweh01
It's hard to even imagine a future with RDO. I'll keep the faith for now but the playerbase is shrinking rapidly. I hope R* comes to their senses soon and really take heed of player feedback. Rammer2k
Gold for gambling would be nice. But lets not forget. GTA didn't open the casino cause of the trouble of people buying shark cards and using it for gambling. Same thing could be made for RDO. Maybe have advanced missions that only pay out Gold? The active money glitch is doing this already. ShayD and jazzbone
LorshZontek
pretty much its useless, mostly because you cant buy much in the game anyway, its only useful when you are forced to spend gold on a item that you cant buy with ingame money Edited March 4, 2019 by LorshZontek added stuff
CosmicBuffalo
No, almost everything can be bought with gold. Literally, the only things that cannot be bought are ability card upgrades. U Carmine and jazzbone
Assblaster
There are also some things that are level-locked that you can get early with gold. A few guns are available with gold slightly before your level, like the bolt-action and pump-shotgun. And you can get lots of level-locked clothes early with gold. Not horses though, if they're level-locked you can't get em. Like Ektope said above, if you don't have the cash for something you can also resort to gold. Right now there's so little good content I can't see how they're making money off this game. Zoop_Leroy and U Carmine
Ghoffman9
I get the sneaky suspicion that when the Beta is over and they start rolling out DLC in earnest, it can only be purchased with gold, so I would hang onto what you have and keep collecting it if I were you. Not so sure myself, had not been on the game in weeks. Contemplated doing so when the latest update hit, but when word spread about how sh*tty it was that killed my interest rather quickly. Semaj 2JZ♢
Short answer; no, it's not useless. It's just not exactly all that valuable at this point. What with the limited amount of content. Also, as long as everything gold bar related remains cosmetic, it's not exactly detrimental to the playerbase, either. I like the way it is. Not sure why some are so upset with the gold store. That opponent in his fancy outfit and all gold guns can't kill me any quicker.

Gambling with gold will never happen as that is the currency you can purchase with real money, due to that I doubt they would allow winning gold from in game gambling either. Gambling with the cash/dollars in game currency I don't see any issues with as it's already in single player and you'll just be using the in game currency which can't be purchased with real money or gold. One of the big issues with "gambling games" and lootboxes is that both involve real money, RD isn't a gambling game it's just a game that has gambling as an activity in it due to the time period it's set in, if the gambling is confined to being a subsystem of the game that doesn't involve real world money in any way it's nothing like the type of games/systems that are getting banned in places. If someone won 5,000$ in RDO from gambling all they could do it spend it in the game on their character. coach_wargo
CosmicBuffalo
The problem is they are being stingy with hunting nerfs and other bs. So, the base of hardcore players is small. I actually feel like there are alot of players on xbox. The lobbies are full. Most the matches are full. Its not like GTA where you never see the same people. The prices dont seem that out there for actually buying stuff. If you buy gold because you work, it would allow you to be on par with someone who grinds. I am assuming someone is buying $100 dollars. The other conversion are a ripoff. I mean 20 cents a gold bar is not an absolute slap in the face to me. I know micros are ruining gaming, but on the flip side, these employees have rents and they arent running a charity. I do not consider my inital price for the game as constituing online aside from what was given for ultimate edition which I have gotten my money's worth at this point. There stingyness with the hunting nerfs really rubs me the wrong way, and timers on looting, bounty hunters, I will still play, but I am not spending more money until a substantial bone is thrown my way. For these f'ups. rusbeckia and Van_Hellsing
