Daleificent
So I have a pretty reliable spot for sockeye I use pretty regularly. I rip them out pretty quick most times, occasionally you'll get a lull but you'll still get 'em. I use just a basic River Lure so if you use the better ones I'm guessing it'll be even better. Never caught anything else but at the same time, I haven't fished using any other bait as I said. It's a little close to a road but so far, I haven't gotten anyone really messing with me. Had a couple fellow fishermen and one dude with a wagon once. I don't think he was using it for farming he just... used it as his ride, I guess? Classy wagon though, had the headlights and all that jazz. You can move up and down this little bank, it's curve lets you cast to the same spot from different angles so you try plenty of spots and just tear the sockeye up regardless. It's pretty close to Strawberry as well. If you're looking to just catch a bunch and sell, it works out alright here for that too. éX-Driver
I think it’d be cool to add fly fishing as a way to target specific species. Have each individual fly lure is for one species of fish, with a fly lure for every species. IamCourtney and Chrismads

The variety of fish in any single spot sort of negates this (unless they decide to change it). Right now, I know of two spots where you can catch more than one variety of medium sized fish where its usually a combination of steelhead and bass (small or largemouth). Otherwise any other body of water contains many varieties of pan fish, SOMETIMES one medium sized breen (sockeye, steelhead, small or largemouth bass). I have yet to find a spot that has both sockeye AND another breed of medium sized fish. The only exception would be northern pike ( of which you can only carry a single one). I'm sure my strategy is similar to a lot of the others here: Find a spot with my target MEDIUM fish and use any lure (river, lake, swamp, doesn't matter) EXCEPT a spinning lure or live bait. Any hits on your line will be your medium fish. Then switch of a spinner to get all the small ones you can (or run along the shore to scare the little ones to beach them). 21 hours ago, Daleificent said: So I have a pretty reliable spot for sockeye I use pretty regularly. Foxwolfe
So third times a charm I guess. First fishing challenge I got into someone killed me multiple times from their horse, ruining my chances to compete. Second time I got it was on this tiny portion of the Dakota river, the space felt way crowded and I had trouble catching anything. Third time back in the swamp (same as first time) but I was actually able to fish this time and managed to win with 113 lbs. Kinda felt cheap though cause I just kept recatching the same sturgeon I released back into the water the first time Still! I won't complain about the 12 nuggets and 44 dollars lol. S1ster P1stol
I'll share my favorite fishing spots: Kamassa River. Right below where that Civil War fort is. I get my sockeye salmon there Those islands just off Clemons Point (2nd camp in story monde near Rhodes and the horse fence) I go to the "smallest" nothern one. Smallmouth bass and Steelhead (I think?) Trout. I don't go for the bigger fish anymore because why carry 1 that sells for less than $10 when you can carry 10 medium sized fish and get $25 for that. Foxwolfe
Yeah the key words betting "less than" there Chris But I agree, I don't like fishing in areas with large fish unless I'm specifically trying to catch one. I don't mind tossing one on my horse as I finish fishing and head to the butcher but given how long it takes to reel them in and their tendency to bite before I get a medium fish on the line makes it more of a waste of time for me. Don't get me wrong though if the conditions are right I love doing a bit of chain catch and selling of sturgeons in Blackwater. Stupidis
I'm trying to get the buckle award where you have caught all 15 types of fish. I have right now 13 and have no idea what fish I'm missing. Have to go for the smaller one I guess. Since this is the fishing thread, any good advice when it comes to reeling? Is it just about to reel the bait slowly or are there any other tactics? I.e reel a three times, flick once, reel two times, etc.

I.e reel a three times, flick once, reel two times, etc. Cast as far out as you can unless there are very large fish in the water. For example, you don't want to hook a northern pike too far out from the shore because it could end up breaking your line and taking your lure or it can take lots of time and effort to actually reel it in. Use your eagle eye and familiarise yourself with which fish are which; if you see lots of salmon and/or steelhead, try using the special river or special lake lures as opposed to the special spinner, which will catch anything and everything. With reeling, slower yet steady is better than reeling too quickly; I've noticed it's more difficult to catch anything the closer you are to bringing the line back to the shore, so this is why casting farther out seems to be a better method and will give you more time and space to reel in at a normal and steady pace. I don't flick very often, but if there aren't many fish within close proximity of your line, try it once and then start reeling just a bit slower than you normally would. Don't flick too often though; it's better to bring the line back in and cast within a different direction. Also, I just mentioned this in the other thread, but if you're in a fishing challenge or event, don't fish in areas where there are more than say one or two people at the most fishing around you. It makes it extraordinary difficult to even get the fish to bite if too many people are fishing in the same spot. Good luck! ☺ Edited May 31, 2019 by -LN- Chrismads, Kremita, IamCourtney and 2 others

Little general tip: Don't keep casting to the same spot. Eventually the fish kind of bug out and stop biting. Vary your cast locations. ALifeOfMisery
@Daleificent @hotrats773 I use the northern spot for Sockeye, there's a rock I stand on, most of the time I hardly have to reel them in, and the southern spot for Steelhead, I sometimes have to cross to the other bank to catch 10. johnwontscore
My best tips: pump the rod up and down to land a fish quickly; any tiny movement of a lure will draw fish from a wide area, so you don't have to reel in much at all; if fish refuse to bite, run away from the river and back so they respawn; if you've got a full bag but there's a lot of fish in the shallows at your feet, try a stick of dynamite to get some bonus poor quality fish; if you want to land big fish quickly, best thing I've found is tapping the right stick to kill the run - I was landing and selling sturgeon at a rate of a fish per 1m - 1.5m using that trick, the most important trick I know in fact. Would like to find a good sockeye and other medium fish spot. The ford just north of Bard's Crossing has both Steelhead and Largemouth Bass. I was wondering if the Special River, Lake, and Swamp lures are useful/worth buying. Are they worth it? They work well for catching premium fish like Salmon and Steelhead; also larger fish like Northern Pike and Muskie. The smaller and more common fish will not bite when using these lures, so they're basically designed for only fishing for the premium and larger fish varieties. I'm not sure how much they cost; I got all of mine except for the special spinner for free if I recall, but yes, if you do a lot of fishing, they are most definitely a good investment. I'd say that one is really all you need though; perhaps River or Lake. I've not fully tested it, but the same fish seem to bite when using either of those two. The special spinner is nice too, but it will attract all types of fish. In my opinion, it's all better and more cost effective in the long run than buying and using live bait like worms and crayfish, which are still bugged and will often vanish from your satchel if you're fully stocked and are awarded extras from R*. So, with that said, start with one of the special lures; use your eagle eye to find premium fish in the waters, catch, sell, rinse, and repeat. Just be careful though; you don't want to have to cut your line because you will lose the lure. The larger fish like Pike can be a task and a workout to bring in if they're far away from the shore, so if you see them in the waters, don't cast your line too far out and hook one; perhaps instead use live bait that's easily replaceable if you'd like to have that experience. Failed Again
Anyone experience the deep sea fishing glitch? I have found the river lure most effective, at the places mentioned above for Sockeye, Steelhead, and Largemouth Bass. Also found a spot right where the road junction by Caliban's Seat is for Smallmouth Bass. Both Bass are worth $2 each.

You only need Special River Lure though to start off with, it catches fish in lakes and swamps too. Also get Special Spinner for when you need to catch small fish for Daily Challenges, saves you the time to equip cheese bait on after each catch. This is good to know! ☺ I was always afraid of this; I know that by having to cut the line, you lose (or used to lose) the lures, but I've not had to cut my line in ages. I've always been very, very careful since then, but when I first bought the special spinner (that I paid for with gold not long after I bought the rod), I lost it after a friend of mine was paddling around in a canoe, got too close to where I was fishing whilst I had a larger fish hooked, and well, I ended up losing both the fish and spinner when they apparently hit the canoe, lol.
