Emmi
Is it strange that I would still prefer R* to develop games for the PlayStation 2 system in 2019? ... even if PS4/Xbox One exists! It may sound odd but I think with the transition to HD, R* lost a lot of its magic, charme and fun that made me fell in love with their games in the first place. R* games lost the gaming aspect and freedom they were loved for in the PS2 era. Discuss. Femme Fatale and Rafae S
Femme Fatale
I feel your pain, hun. I wish the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era would've lasted forever. Also, the N64. I call it old timer's syndrome; we grow so used to playing the consoles and games that we cherished as kids/teens, that we start to disdain the new generation of consoles and games as we grow older. It's actually one of the reasons why I'm retired from gaming. (But of course I'll temporarily come out of retirement when Bully II's released. ) Edited February 27, 2019 by Femme Fatale Rumblebud
El Penguin Bobo
I think you're just a bit blinded with nostalgia. Rockstar would probably lose money if they kept releasing games on the PS2 and the games that they're making now won't even run on the PS2, I do see what you mean though. universetwisters
How about instead of making games for an old console, they try to recapture the feeling of their old games? TheSantader25, Sunglasses, Ivan1997GTA and 2 others
Rumblebud
Hardware capability of consoles, probably. As the development of technology advances and improves overtime, classic consoles such as the PS2, original Xbox and the beloved systems of the previous generation, the PS3 and 360 were good for it's time, then as the visual and gameplay quality increases so do the requirements. Issues like mentioned were also partly why R* even cut further updates for GTAO on last-gen consoles. But I do agree that I miss those times. I wished they lasted forever, but...y'know, Remastered games are a thing.

Zello
I kinda do too kinda tbh. I wish they'd have continued making PS2 games until like 2008 while still focusing on the 360/PS3. A couple more side games like VCS , LCS, and Bully. Not because of Nostalgia I just wanted to see a couple more games and if R* could push the PS2 to its limit. Vrock_wave
I also think that the games on the new engine do not have the magical atmosphere that the games gave us at the time of ps2, I did not experience good feelings playing GTA 5 or RDR2 this is something like a usual game if for example it was from ubisoft or another developer. But Max Payne 3 and L A noire were really deep games, everything that came out after them without emotional ono was perceived by me. So rdr, midnight club los angeles - pretty crappy games for me/ Rafae S
Hmmm nice bike
They should have at least given us a San Andreas Stories as one last PS2 game. Zello and Liberty-TG
Jason
Theoretically if this were to happen all we'd get is games that are extremely technically limited and nothing more. Rockstar's games evolved into what they are now because it's what the people making them wanted to do, the hardware had nothing to do with it. Spider-Vice
Xbox Live was already a thing in the Xbox OG, if they wanted they could still do microtransactions for example. The generation has nothing to do with anything. Emmi
The Nintendo Switch would be the perfect platform for them to return to smaller-scaled, more cartoony games as we've seen them during the PS2/Xbox era. GTA San Andreas Stories for the Switch would be a wish come true. In general it bothers me that R* has not yet released an original game on the Switch. A smaller-scaled, more cartoony, heck, even top-down GTA would be a great fit for the system. At the pace the Switch is selling R* wouldn't ignore this system forever, would they? (yeah, I know LA Noire is a thing) On a side note: The Warriors would make so much sense on the Switch, given its concept of easy shared play with the 2 Joy-Cons. I agree with that tbh, i miss when the games just had the most random and unrealistic stuff like jetpacks and they forcused on letting us just have fun with the open world, the new gta games feel really restrictive compared
