New Bounty system

I think they missed the boat on this one. I've got mine up to around $15, but nothing happens. If a player kills me, they don't get it. I've been killed by the law and it stays on me. I can pay it at the post office, but why?

It would be cool if a player could claim your bounty like in GTA and get the money. But that makes too much sense....

Apparently you start getting jumped by bounty hunter posses like in singleplayer at a certain point, not sure what that point is though.

Does your blip stay red until it's paid? I'm just guessing, there has to be some reason to pay it off. I logged in right next to a red dot, got lucky and killed him as he was raising his rifle in my direction, got a 50 cent bounty and paid it off. I wish we could find out what color our own blip is.

Check the HELP >> Crimes sections in the Start menu.

Press Left on the D-Pad and look at the Players tab.. your gamertag will either be Blue, Purple, or Dark Red.

Bright Red blips is the typical Enemy blip similar to NPCs or after a Player has shot you or in your direction, killing these players or Dark Red players gives a very low reputation penalty but always gives a bounty if Witnesses or Law is around.

Turn notifications on in Red Dead Settings if you haven't already, in the upper corner of your screen, you can see pop-up warnings when Purple/Dark Red player blips are moving towards you.

Also, your Blip color will slowly change back to Blue after you go for certain amount of time without killing players/NPCs for no reason. I have no idea how long that takes, I've only been told by other players.

Thanks so much, I never thought to look there. I rarely look at the player list, so it would've taken me forever to realize it.

I logged in yesterday almost immediately was shot in the back by a player I had no clue was there. Which is fine I guess. However upon turning around and killing him I got a bounty. Seems pretty dumb

^That is pretty dumb IMO. On top of that it doesn't go away til you pay it off.  Just one more $ drain.

today i paid off my bounty of about $1.15 or so, yesterday i did the "kill them all" horley / leclerk mission and the very second i spawned back in free roam a random player blasted my head off and i had no chance of defending myself.

Whenever I go to the Post Office to pay off a bounty, I only have to pay half of the price... is this the same for everyone else?

If this is different for other players, this is either a bug or it is because I have Good Honor??

The system is dumb as hell mine was $38. I am not going to pay for that it’s stupid I’m going to defend myself I shouldn’t be  punish for it

As some of missions in game required a negative honor rating to start and considering there is a guy who charges solely only gold bars to change honor rating, this new system is going to be a paywall on missions.  As the vast majority of people will now probably always be high in honor.  I have high honor and grief the crap out of griefers and I hunt a moderate amount, but my honor is relatively high.

So, you now you can either acquire a massive bounty by killing players and be seen as a griefer or pay gold to switch honor.  This assumes that future missions will require a negative honor rating.  Perhaps there is a quick way to go negative, but it seems low honor will cost money as shooting horses, players, npcs all entail a bounty.  Just a thought.

Or just don't play those missions. I have more than one character, and my favorite one is honorable in the extreme, and so he won't play those missions. I refuse to play the cookie-cutter way R* wants me to.

I too have high honour and my 5c bounty Tuesday only charged me 2c at the post office. Quite possible it's cheaper if a higher honour.

Yeah, done them a good couple of times so no worries in not doing them again for me really.

I thought I got into lower honour missions by going on call, might be wrong though. Is the very last one at the fort a low honour job? Not fort mercer with that heavy armour, the wooden fort with the harm in gun inside near to the door out. If so, I definitely did tgat with high honour through on call. (The left D-pad options).

Also, more for the future. If R* add more missions with varying honour to start them, it could prove a pain. The missions pay a fair bit more when hosting for the first time so it's definitely ideal to do that first run. Just depends how long it takes to lower honour and how much it costs.

I feel your pain, why am I the one to get a bounty, when someone takes a pot shot at me? NWO saves my bacon, & I don't really stand for being attacked with no provocation. There needs to be a better free roam dueling system. Like where you can challenge someone to a quickdraw or something. Sometimes I feel almost anything would be better than the current setup that allows cowards to sneak attack everybody minding their own damn business.

The bounty hunter posse finally came after me. Pretty ruthless, kill them, more keep coming. Finally killed me, cost me 11 bucks.

Their lead hoofed horses couldn't keep up with me.   😛

I would have run also but I was boxed in.

Also right before, someone refused to assign me a mission because of the bounty.

Yeah, speaking of that, I went to pay off my bounty, & got a "wanted dead or alive" just walking in . . .

Also, how long does your dot stay red for? & how can you make it go away faster?

I just survived a bounty hunter attack...the amount of hunters is easily over 20.   And surprise surprise, the hunters cannot be looted.   If you think the cop response is bad in this game, the bounty hunters are twice as bad.  Did I mention they cant be looted...at least the cops can be looted.  I escaped the massive area...still have the bounty.

Same here. I'm usually at or around max honor and the small bounties I've had to pay off so far have been halved upon paying.

I figured it's a bug, but if it isn't, it could well be a perk of having positive honor or even an incentive to go and pay it off.

not a bug, if you pay it off before the hunters get to you you pay half. if they get you, you pay full price.

Honor doesn't matter btw, my honor is at the lowest it can go and its still half for me to pay my bounty off

I don't mind that tbh. It's a little incentive to pay a bounty off and, for players like myself who are mostly passive, but who might occasionally have to put down a would be griefer, it means there isn't any real financial burden involved.

I've heard that it's set at $10; but have no idea who figured that out.

Note that it can still take a while after you reach $10 for the inflated-ego bounty buzzards to come flapping their yaps at you.

"You will learn to respect my..." *bang*

Dominating! lol We really need those Quake killstreak sounds in this game...

Yup, been sitting on 13 dollars bounty for quite a while now, they seem a bit lazy. Allthough they were quite quick to get the jump on me yesterday as soon as I went idling for a couple minutes, so after I came back from grabbing a drink I had to realise my character was no longer wearing a hat, had his cores drained and was standing on the shore of the Dakota river. I figured it musta been a hostile player, but upon analysing what happened from going trough my saved video clip it appeared it were in fact 3 some sneaky bounty hunters whom shot me dead. 😐

^^ Dirty buzzards! I'll kill an extra bunch just for you. :)

I'm eager to get my bounty well past $10, as I have a few special locations I want to test.

I'm stumbling onto some really cool spots though. :)

Totally stupid!

nevermind....I see that R* steals it from you.

Try the mine at Gaptooth Ridge! I kept a 4 person posse at bay for over 30 min this weekend. Tards just kept coming at me. Too funny!
