It seems to be doing its job. Seen this little rascal on the map just running in circles on the tracks coming from the hunting ground to the butcher at Saint Denis. He was there for a good 5 minutes so I decided to entertain him but he didn't last long after he fired at me.

Poor feller

Does nothing to solve the problem. Still getting shot constantly because the game still intentionally spawns players as close to each other as possible and most of the aggressive players are blue dots, they only turn red after parley. Story mission hopping still results in getting killed as soon as I pop up. Literally had 9 red dots on my map after just half an hour of playing,

if a player shoot at me and don't  kill me their dot goes back to blue.

Ran into several players trolling with system with knives because if you shoot them first you get penalized for self defense..

So far ir just seems like another typical rockstar style stupid useless band aid solution to get around the fact that they want to force out traditional lobby options so they can use their grunting man ape of a player base to annoy people and impede progression..

Using knives won't count as making my own player blip to change red or purple?

I think i still does.

They make it obvious that they are try to stab you and are trying to get you to shoot them so you get penalized in town. The new system just opens up new ways for players to annoy each other.

😂 Now I have to try this.

I've just done one session so far with less people in it than I was used to, but so far I like the new system. Especially since being left the f*ck alone is exactly what I want and every step towards actually being alone and able to enjoy my game on my console in my house is a good step. If I wanted social interaction I wouldn't have purchased a PS4.

One qualm I might have with the system is that red dots show at great distance and it takes some getting used to before I won't get nervous of red dots.

I guess we'll have to see if it still wokrs as good when we've settled into it and people have found all kinds of new ways to use the system to screw other people. I just now realised how my RDR2 is like politics.

So, as far as I'm concerned after about six hours of rutting around, the system is good.

When you’re doing a stranger mission you appear as a big red target on the map.

If i’ve been well behaved then I will be invisible to you on the map meaning I can ride up quickly and shoot you without you having any prior warning?

Is this right or do all players show on the map when you’re doing a stranger mission?

If it is, then this undoubtedly hands the attacker a huge advantage in an off the radar kinda way.

It does give the attacker an advantage and I think for Stranger Missions the Golden Rule of RDR2 hasn't changed: Shoot first, f*ck questions.

I think it would be safe to assume that someone without evil intent has the common sense to stay out of the way of a stressed and armed (wo)man trying to deliver the mail.

I tried freeroam last night and instantly saw red dots in West Elizabeth. Here we go, I thought.

But these same guys just gravitated toward each other and kept to themselves for the two hours I was in the session - presumably they were engaged with gunfighting and I was able to ride the train in peace (which never happened before), so it seemed to be all good.

Still checking the map a lot though

clinical oppression

it would be nice to know what your own color blip is . A friend and I got into a 2 v 4 posse battle (not a feud) and 3x our bounty got up over 16 dollars b4 we paid it off . I think our blips went to dark red as we took the fight out into the open way south of tumbleweed and blue blips would show up taking shots at us. Now I'm.not a griefer but if you're shooting at me I'm shooting back .  I'm just hoping that if your killing someone who is bright red (a hostile player to you/posse) You will not be penalized by going dark red for fighting back and winning . Cuz it appeared that we were. I'm also wondering how long it takes for the dark red blip to cool off back to blue as I spent my next 3 hours of game play just hunting and avoiding all blips but I can't tell if I'm red purple or blue .

^ ok just found out you can tell what your own blip is looking at your camp on the map .....if your camp is red ..  you're red

It's just as I imagined. I made my way to Blackwater to sell, thinking I'd be out of harm's way from St Denis campers.

Got there and there was a guy at the end of the road waiting. Shot me and then disappeared out of range so I couldn't find him.

10/10 Rockstar.

Combined with the absolutely unforgivable acts of:

Nerfing heron plumes from 3 to 1 consistently.

Nerfing animal prices across the board.

Nerfing the varmint to the point where its practically unusable for hunting.

Nerfing ability cards.

This game can get to f*ck.

Back on GTA. Fingers crossed there's a new DLC soon, together with some NEW weapons and NEW aircraft.

Same happened to me but I just followed the red directional indicator on my mini map until their blip reappeared.

He disappeared  out of range? Well that solved your problem then, didn't it? Your pelts and stuff now stay on you horse after you get killed.

Also, if you find the Varmint rifle unusable, there my be something wrong with you in stead of the weapon...

I changed my mind I don’t really like it. Just been on for an hour and a half and encountered 1 player. The game feels so lonely now.

Yep, feels like funny random encounters with other players are just a thing of the past now. Recently all been happening to me is meeting idling folks, people that are way too paranoid and just take off until, well...they're gone and then you have the shoot first types that ask questions later. I rode by some red dots though whom did me no harm it's like they just wanted to know they're there lol. I bet they feel as alone as me on that huge empty map.

No, it didn't. I think you misunderstand me.

It would have been nice to know he was there beforehand.

I then wanted revenge for him being a dick and Rockstar's decision to implement proximity blips denied me that.

You can't do that now. You can't tell who is there until you get there (unless they are a red dot).

The introduction of this now allows griefers to camp there, kill you then disappear. That is much worse, in my opinion, than what we had before.

There's nothing wrong with me buddy and I'm not the only one who feels this way about that rifle.

It's not just about this though.

I could learn to live with this sh*t system if they hadn't nerfed hunting.

There is something wrong with the varmint, I can't one shot kill turkeys anymore, even if you pop them in the neck or head from short range.

Had a friend who was targeted for assassination and the players who hunted him didn't show up on the radar for me even when we where in the same possie!

But you do know someone's there beforehand cause the blip will show up outside of lock on range. It's kind of your own fault for not being more careful.

And I've sold well over 10 000 animal parts and can count the issues with griefers at butcher stands on one hand. Is this really something that happens all the time for you?

And like Stoakzee said, after an altercation with an other player there will be a red directional indicator on your minimap to give their general position. When you get closer their bright red blip will show up on your minimap. So you can actually get revenge, you probably just didn't know yet how the new system works.

Maybe the Varmint rifle is bugged in different ways for different players like some other bugs? Because I have no issues with it other than its range being reduced a bit.

And a nerf on hunting isn't fun of course but with pelts now being more stable and St. Denis losing its place as hunting hotspot, I think it became more balanced and diverse.

I wasn't happy with the update either at first, but I've already started to see much more potential in this game since I have adapted to these new mechanics.

I didn't know he was there until I arrived there.

Previously, I could tell if someone was there before getting there.

So no, it wasn't my fault.

I travelled all that way without knowing he was there until it was too late.

Secondly, you say blips will show up outside of lock on range.

There's weapons in the game that y'know, can kill players outside of lock on range.

I'm sure I've sold just as many animal parts as you and I've had more than my fair share of griefers interrupting sales.

I know how the new system works in terms of red dots, you don't need to explain it to me.

The point is that the guy killed me then disappeared. I could not see him on the map.

Look, I'm happy for you. Go hunt and reap the benefits. It sounds like it's working out for you.

For myself any many others like me, its not.

Could the new blip mechanic be bugged for you?

If it is, then I'll add it to the many "bugged" things this update brought with it.

New system's working great for me at least. I used to get gray hairs everytime I'd go through town. Now if I see blue dots I'm less worried. People walking casually through town now, waving and having a good time.

I see purple or red though I know what to expect. Especially the reds: they're bad news so I carry my gun.

With that out of the way, as the game stands currently I think it is a good addition. The inability to see other players adds to the realism for me.  Wondering around rivers or riding through towns it's kinda cool to naturally bump into players. 99% of the time it's a simple drive past on our way. Before we knew way in advance, we tried to avoid routes, we wondered whether to shoot first ask questions later or not (your previous topic on the matter showed how spilt people were on that). It was stressful and made people trigger happy. Now, it seems, blue dots pass by. We hunt, craft and drink together.

Agreed.

While I'm still a little wary, and I do miss seeing everyone on the main map to know I'm not alone in the world - I do like that if there are blue players in town you can stroll past and be fairly certain they aren't going to kill you.  So rather than avoiding everyone, just in case, it's nice to be able to enter a town without fear.

Just come across a video going over how many people you can kill before turning purple and red, and other stuff.

5 kills to purple. 10 kills to red. (That's player kills, not NPCs.)

The red people aren't giving me any problems. I am having a hell of an issue with blue people shooting me for no reason whatsoever whether I'm riding along, hunting or skinning.. I think there is a time period where they go from red to blue if they don'[t do anything wrong,m so I guess they do their deed, cool down a while till they're blue again, then hit someone else.

I did do something to help a dude the other night. I had a camp high on a ridge and there was an enemy camp down by the river. A blue person rode in to clear the camp so I stood at the edge of the rim and shot some of the enemies for him. Watched him loot for a while when it was over and went back to my camp. Maybe I'm too nice. BTW, my aggression level jumped up for a bit, but no biggie.

I forgot to mention the ones that shoot and kill your horse before going at me. So far, it's only been the blue players that do that.
