Just riding around and hunting was before the update a challenge. When on horseback, I now equip horseman instead of peak condition. If you have dual wielding pistols, I can recommend Winning Streak. Landon's patience has the first strike damage boost advantage, but it's useless after the first shot. Winning streak works each consecutive shot after the first shot. I can totally demolish griefers stupid enough to come close. The unblinking eye is useful to prolong the duration of Slippery Bastard. It adds 11 seconds to every dead eye effect. Did they nerf the repeaters? I guess a lot of ex-Varmint Rifle users will have switched to other weapons. Maybe they just lent more towards other rifles rather than repeaters? Not sure if that adds up though - I mean, the repeaters are probably closer to the old Varmint Rifle than the Bolt Action is.
