Hunting/Fishing straight up Nerfed, or "Rebalanced?"

Hearing lots of reports of drastically reduced carcass values, single plume per kill, high quality results being harder to achieve etc. but also hearing about more meat per kill. Are there any other tweaked aspects (new uses for different arrow types, or different pelt values for example) that might balance things out or is this just a plain and simple nerf across the board?

Nerf, nerf, nerf 🔨

Also no longer a varmint cartridge will yield a perfect pelt the animal has to be 3 star, small game arrows same thing.

The only big thing they added was their emotes and clothing, some which you still have to unlock at a later special occasion.

Hunting has been hit hard.

Less feathers from birds, pelt prices reduced, carcass prices halved in some cases, 3* small game pelts and carcasses are far more difficult to come by.

The only positive is that the number of meat portions gained from skinning animals looks to have increased across the board.

E: Apparently unskinned Buck carcasses still sell for $10, I wonder if this extends to all animals?

Don't know if fishing has been nerfed. I had almost full slots pre-patch and didn't sell until post patch. Prices were the same. Unless it carried the price from pre-patch but I doubt it.

Does anyone remember the price for 3* sturgeon before update?

I did it today for daily challenge and it gave me $7.25.

I think it was just a bug they finally fixed where skinned and unskinned carcasses sold for the same price.

I haven't sold sturgeon in a few weeks but I'm 98% sure this was the pre-update price. The real money's always been the medium fishies though, trout/salmon/bass etc. Have they been nerfed? (Again...)

$1.62 perfect heron (+1 plume)

$1.75 perfect rabbit

etc.

So most items that you can collect multiples of, and run into commonly, cut 50%-66% either by price or collecting.

Already tired of hunting for $, let alone no need to as most of the clothing is meh, and what I did buy that I thought was ok, is the same old lumpy effect when on the character.

So this kills RDO for me until there's mission/story content.

Yes. Fish prices are all still the same. Some of the big fish were 5 dollars before as well. Like the channel cat.  I am not sure if any fish prices have been reduced yet. The one plume per bird kinda sucks but fast travel is a lot cheaper now.

Wow, a small alligator carcess now sells for $3.25 and the skin for $3.50.

With the nerfing of hunting they ruined the only thing I really had fun with in this game.

Way to go Rockstar... way to go

$8 for 3* Pike just now. Now clue what it was before though

Think it was still $8 pre-patch. Pikes were the most valuable of the bigger fish so I think fish prices stayed the same across the board.

I sold my Egret plumes. They were clogging my inventory. Some were $2.5 a piece.

Yes. We have a new leader in most valuable plumes. Egrets are 2.50, 2.00 and 1.75. So 2 of the types are worth more than the spoonbills.

I have sometimes wondered what exactly the butcher gets out of a carcass after I've carved the best cuts of meat + other assorted bits off for myself... even though I sold the meat to him 99% of the time.

Sometimes, some things are better left unanswered. 😉

Regarding carcasses they finally fixed skinned carcasses paying the same amount as unskinned I think. Issue is the hunting payouts were in an okay (ish) place because of that, now it's just awful.

Funny that they added anti-grief measures to make things like hunting and fishing safer and more enjoyable but nerfed the reason why we want to go hunting and fishing.

It just perfectly illustrates everything wrong with this 'beta' and R*'s approach to their online games in general.

1. Let an oversight like this slide for months and months and become entrenched

2. Say nothing when it finally gets corrected, offer no explanation,

3. Now it just feels like a deliberate reactionary measure, like some number cruncher decided we were making too much money and must be stopped

4. Make the correction alongside other very deliberate nerfs and amidst the lack of acknowledgement it just feels like a slap in the face and leaves a bad taste in our mouths

I admit I've always had a taste for a bit of masochism in my game mechanics but letting it spill over into the real world like this is getting too meta for my liking...

I knew hunting was going to take a hit at some point, you can make a lot of money at a very decent rate.

You can still make money from hunting of course, but now it's just slightly more lengthy.

I posted this in the other thread, but I'll throw it in here too.

Skin your carcasses people. I tested it on regular deer, and bucks. You will make more money for the skinned carcass + all of the items gained (meat/skin/antlers) than if you sold the carcass without skinning it.

Skinned Buck + All loot = $11.70

Unskinned buck & no loot = $10

Skinned deer + all loot = $8.15

Unskinned deer & no loot = $7.00

So skin your animals if you want the maximum amount of profit, guys.

What about Cougars or Panthers? If you don't know yet, I'll look for one in the pre-udpate areas that I consistently found them. Then try taking an unskinned carcass to a butcher.

I've only been able to test the deer and buck. If other people can do some testing on all the animals that would help. I figure right now that it's more or less balanced for all animals now, but if there's some random animal out there where you make more from the unskinned carcass it would be good to know.

Skin every animal you can before you sell it, you'll get the most profit out of it.

If you collect small animal carcasses that can be put in your satchel and "broken down," sell those without breaking them down.

You don't happen to know a spawn point for them?

I used to go to that little patch of land slightly north west of the B in Bayou, but its almost impossible to get them to spawn now.

No need to hunt for large game anymore, I can get all my meat from cattle. Fish & small game only. Until they nerf fish, which will likely happen next. Do they think if we're low on cash we'll buy gold for clothes & guns? I've got the guns I want; and I definitely have no interest in the lousy clothes & hats they're offering.

People would sell unskinned carcasses?
