OurJud
When a game is installing from disc on the PS4 the console tends to make quite a bit of noise compared to the relative silence when playing the game after installation. I guess this is things like the fan and processor working away. But, if you enter Rest Mode during an installation the console goes silent, even though the installation is still going on. So if the PS4 can install a game from disc silently, why does it make so much noise if you keep it switched on during installation?
uNi
Well because of that you said basically, when the PS4 is on, its handling everything, when on rest mode only needs to support a few tasks. Â Â

But the PS4 only makes a noise when installing a game. I suppose if you sat in complete silence and listened carefully enough you'd hear a constant whir or faint hiss, but it only makes noise you're really aware of when first booting up or when installing a disc. So the point I'm making is during an installation in rest mode it's silent. So why can't it be silent during an install when it's switched on? Â I know I'm over-thinking things, but this is the kind of thing that keeps me awake at night. Â I suppose what you say makes sense. When switched on it's installing a game AND running the home screen, so it's having to work harder than when only installing a game (during rest mode).
