Hm... I suppose it's been a while since I've posted the rules for donation sizes:

Carcass Size Rules for Donation Challenges

Easy part first:

  • From satchel - Small
  • From Wagon - Medium if it stows to the side of the horse
  • From Wagon - Large if it stows on the rear of the horse

From Horse or Shoulder it's a bit more complicated:

  • Large - Herd beasts and Deadly Predators with carcasses that stow on the rear of the horse
  • Medium - Medium-Large carcasses stow on the rear but count as medium when not from the wagon
    - Alligator (small)

    - Beaver

    - Coyote

    - Fox

    - Goat

    - Pig (domestic)

    - Sheep (domestic)

    - Turtle

  • Medium - Animals that stow on the side and aren't damaged by a varmint rifle

  • Small - Animals that must be shot with a small-game arrow to avoid damage, yield a perfect carcass

An easier test for the medium birds that count as small when not in the wagon: Medium birds killed cleanly with a small-game arrow will yield all 3 feathers regardless of carcass quality - flight feathers and crafting feathers.

Don't get distracted by large birds with no flight feathers or single plumes; these are all large birds and will always count as medium donations.

thanks for that, very useful... learned something new

R* needs to simplify this. What works from the wagon should also work from the horse or shoulder

They should make the wagon available without the need of discarding the personal horse, to begin with....

I disagree. The donation rules take a while to get used to but I like the extra flexibility of choosing how small-medium and medium-large carcasses will score. Every time we get a major update I've been reviewing the wagon capacity hoping that the wagon rules will become more complex so that a wagonload of beavers or loons will have comparable value to a wagonload of deer or muskrats. Doesn't seem likely at this point though, and this sort of change would probably ruin the flexibility of the current strategies.

Why Rocktard have to complicate simple things like these? AFAIK when the Trader Role came,it was lot simpler. Back of the horse large, side medium and from satchel small. After i read this i realized that Rocktard employes dont have much to do at work so they mess around with Carcass Size Rules.

I've been getting unexpected results from my donation sizes to Cripps, but I don't have a clear memory of what counted as large, medium and small before. The Ravens I donated did not count as medium and the fox did. Yesterday I was surprised that the baby alligator and coyote didn't count as large. So the general rule of large animals stow on the back of the horse, medium animals stow on the side, and small animals fit in the satchel, doesn't strictly apply.

Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong, or the game is just being glitchy and inconsistent. And I don't have enough data to draw any conclusions yet anyway.

Yeah, I think you're right. That quote above would have corresponded with the Moonshiner update, or perhaps a minor patch shortly after.

agree.
I'd also welcome the ability to access any pelt or carcass already stored in our wagon or on the horse.
Why can't I take a deer pelt off my horse, and put it in the wagon - and vice versa?

I see your point and the advantages of the current system. I still prefer more simplicity and consistency, but I'll work on understanding and taking advantage of the status quo.

Circle on PS is the "leave" option when at a camp fire, closes the catalogue etc.

Thank you!

That should make it 'F' on PC.

Or maybe Esc.

Will have to double check, but it's 'F' for leaving resting, campfire, crafting.

Ah, took me a couple to figure this out on Xbox one. You are just hitting y, to enter the shack like normal, then immediatly hitting b(since the enter thing fills up right away.) Wow! Nice ;)

So it definitely is 'F' on PC:

Press 'E' to enter the shack as always, but then press 'F' as soon as the circle fills about half way as it fills up fast.

As noted in the video you see your right hand lift as the cut scene to enter the shack plays and you know it worked.

You have to do this once for each drunken interaction, so enter, exit, and enter again.

Works like a charm!

Which is good because all the Naturalist dailies are LA related, so I had to do all 3 of Trader, Collector, and Moonshiner to get 9/9.

There were 12 in the session and couldn't count on a legendary spawning and I'm not trolling around all day to look for one, and I don't do bounties any more: they're always broken and extremely tedious even when they DO actually work.

Would anyone care to write a text description of the trick for Drunken Interaction in a bit more detail? The current comments provide clues to the keys and buttons but nothing about what else is required to set things up. I'm expecting that getting drunk first is a likely requirement but there's no way to tell without viewing the video, and videos usually crash my PC so I tend to avoid them.

Too late for today though. I join a protect LA event, snapped a photo, considered sticking around to help out the group, and bailed as soon as I saw someone getting dragged around by lasso.

I did the following exactly, after I saw the video:

I spawned the server, went to my shack, went to the door, hold triangle (it fills in about 2 seconds) and immediatly tapped circle (for about three times), when the traingle button is getting filled

I spawned inside and got the 1/2 daily challenge info text. I went out and repeated it.

there is no setup like getting drunk first. its dead easy, if you have the timing. I had it it at first try.

had some bad timing, but yeah it works. on PS4:

1. just go to your shack

2. enter shack with triangle, and tap circle.

3. most important: tap circle (a few times) on your pad BEFORE the "enter" circle filled up, at 1/2 or at 3/4. BEFORE is the key

4. repeat a few times. done

I did not get drunk first or in between.

I did try Esc instead of 'F', but that didn't work, so for PC:

Enter shack by pressing 'E'

before the circle around the 'E' fills up hit 'F'

it seems when the white fills up about half way is the right time to lift off 'E' and hit 'F'

I had one false start when I waited too long (about 3/4 full) and the enter cycle completed.

When I saw today's list, I thought there was no way I would get 9/9.  That was especially true after those bloody revenue agents managed to screw just enough of my delivery to get me under $200 for the job.  However, the Knight Moose appeared right after I finished my delivery, so I snapped a quick photo, used some pheromones, then made a quick trip to Mad Hatty to do an LA mission to complete the pheromones challenge.  Big thanks for the tip on the Drunken Player challenge.  Worked perfectly on Xbox (press Y and then B quickly).

Oddly, every carcass I donated today scored as a perfect carcass, even though only 2 were.

And they still haven't fixed the 'drink an antique alcohol' issue where it takes the top one in the list.

I even saw a PS4 player on youtube get stung by this with only 3 different bottles: he had 1 absinthe, 4 whiskeys, and 3 of another and it took the absinthe off the top even though he picked the whiskey he had 4 of.

Do you by any chance have that "trinket" from Gus, that says something about pelts being better when perfect or something

(which makes no sense, since already perfect?)

Quote

Buck Antler Trinket – $775

Buck Antlers, Dane Topaz Necklace

The player has a higher chance of receiving better quality pelts and skins from animals in perfect condition.

I'm starting to think that is what it does, makes animals/pelts sometimes score better; this is because I only noticed what you describe happening

AFTER I got that trinket. Then I think I'm only turning in 4/of 6 perfect, but the two "good" I turn in also scored for "perfect." I could be wrong, but

that seems to be what is happening?

Or maybe that trinket makes them score/sell better to a vendor/at Cripp's table? It seems like a coincidence that I started noticing what you

describe after I got that trinket (or at least after the Naturalist update, so it may just be a BUG with nothing to do with that trinket?) I've noticed it doing what you say with BOTH pelts/skins and carcasses.

On forums people say all that trinket does is make it so even if you "ruin" an animal down to "good", it still might give you a perfect pelt; I've never noticed that happening a SINGLE time, since

getting the trinket. If I make a thing two stars, I only get a two star pelt. Maybe I just don't skin enough, or don't notice?

I think the animals scoring as perfect donations when they aren't perfect has been around for a while. I'm not sure as I usually just dump a handful of small critters on him from my satchel.

As far as the trinket is concerned, I'm pretty sure the bonus is applied to pristine animals that are killed by too strong of a weapon, or perhaps a not quite clean kill shot. This is fairly noticeable with small game killed with a varmint rifle. Rarely, but consistently more often than before the trinket was available, a varmint kill on pristine  chipmunks, tiny birds, frogs, toads, etc. will damage the carcass to 2 stars but collect to the satchel as perfect. I've gotten perfect pelts and skins off of larger animals occasionally too, but for the small and cheap critters I'm not concerned about maximizing their value so I regularly pick them off with varmint ammo.
