I feel like R* need to get it together for the future titles to not be stuck on decent status. Especially when they don't announce some story DLCs for GTA V to make up for the absents of SF and LV. Not to mention when Leslie Benzies is no longer working with them. If Everywhere will turn out to be better than GTA VI, then that's where I no longer being a fan of R*. As if milking GTA Online really hard does not disappoint me enough.

You never payed gta 5? Also why don't you like gta vcs and prefer advance over 2? Were you turned off by no minimap?

I'm not THAT fond of it, but I believe that the main reasons of why people love it are the atmosphere, story and soundtrack.

 

Its protagonist, Tommy Vercetti, is still one of the most liked in the series as well, and I do like him too, but despite being one of my favorite protagonists, that doesn't change the fact that despite his intelligence and badass attitude, his character doesn't have much depth if we take it for today's standards. Being voiced by Ray Liotta helped it shine, but the voice acting itself wasn't something special neither. Even people who watched movies featuring Ray Liotta stated that voicing Tommy Vercetti wasn't really one of his best works. But given the fact that Tommy was the first speaking protagonist, it's understandable.

 

Speaking of famous voice actors, some apply the same to San Andreas' main antagonist, Frank Tenpenny, claiming that he's famous only because he was voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, which I definitely disagree about. Talking about myself, the first time I played San Andreas as a child, I did not know that Tenpenny was voiced by Samuel, nor did I know who Samuel L. Jackson really was anyway. But his role and overall attitude, even though he tends to be a bully, really engaged me. His corruption, nastiness and overall antagonism were greatly handled. And the fact that he played Los Santos' street gangs for his own benefit shows what an adorable mastermind he is. When it comes to the voice acting, it's obvious that more effort was put on his character than on Tommy's.

 

So, let's get back to Vice City. The major problem for me is that the mechanics of the game don't stand out that well today, and that's totally expected from a 2002 released game. Neither San Andreas' mechanics do stand that well, but at least they're a little easier to adapt to.

GTA 5- 10. Online has its major flaws but I've never played a game with so much crap to do. Still wish it had SP DLC for more trevor!

GTA III - 7/10: I think GTA3 encapsulates the seedy underworld of organised crime probably the best of any GTA game, loyalty doesn't exist for Claude, only money. 
GTA VC 9/10: 80's music, Scarface and Carlito's Way influence? Nothing better. Improved gameplay from III and a better environment with more memorability.
GTA SA 8/10: Influenced by the LA riots and crack-cocaine epidemic of the 90s, awesome soundtrack, best gameplay of the 3d era, story isn't spectacular.
GTA LCS 6/10: GTA 3 but with a talking protagonist and worse missions, still a good game, but it's not amazing.
GTA VCS 8.5/10: Used to be my absolute favourite GTA. Essentially San Andreas' gameplay and variety of activities combined with the Vice City charm and era. 
GTA IV: 6.5/10: Boring missions, mission scenarios are too believable and realistic, which isn't a bad thing, but they're not very fun to play.
GTA V: 8.5/10: Probably my third favourite GTA game, put nostalgia aside and it's clear to see this is one of the best games in the franchises.

Not rating the top down ones as I can't remember them well enough to judge them fairly anymore.

 

III/8.5: I'd probably rate this as a 9 way back in the day but comparing it to the newer ones it deserves a lower score. Loved it, still one of my fondest gaming memories seeing it for the first time round a friend's house.

Vice City/9.9: I don't like giving 10's no matter how much I adore a game, so Vice City gets the next best thing. Amazing characters, story, soundtrack, atmosphere, it had everything I wanted and more.

San Andreas/9.5: Incredible game. Great story and set of characters. Lost countless hours to this game when I was a teenager.

IV + EFLC - 9.7: Best story in the series, IMO. Great characters and loved the overall tone and atmosphere of the game. Wasn't overly keen on TLAD but loved TBOGT

V/9.0: If I was rating this out of 10 I'd normally give it around an 8-8.5, but it feels weird to rank it below III when it's clearly superior. The story was a major disappoint to me, as well as a lot of characters not living up to my expectations. Despite that it was a beautiful looking open world with a lot of incredibly fun missions and moments. 

Online/no rating: I don't even know how to rate this portion of V. So I'll just say it started off really well for the first couple of years and then turned to utter sh*te.

GTA 1 ...: 5/10. Aged horribly

GTA 2....: 6/10. Aged almost as badly

GTA 3:.....7/10. Still 'feels' right, but the gameworld is tiny by todays standards

GTAVC:... 7/10. Same as GTA3. The gameworld size doesn't cut it nowadays. Otherwise, damn good.

GTASA:... 9/10. The Greatest game ever back in 2004. Now? A very very very good game, basic visuals aside.

GTA 5:......9/10. Bigger than ever before. But some aspects of GTASA should have remained. And why can I not centre the camera?
