Analyzing The Past to Predict the Future - Everything We Should Consider on the Road to GTA VI

I think that has been confirmed as of lately as well. Don't hold my word for it though, but I'm fairly certain Sony already handed out dev kits for the developers to get familiar with the system, at least that was the (official) news.

Mark Cerny confirmed it himself a few days ago. The only debate was how many developers had one.

I'd like to bring something seemingly unrelated up. I highly reccomend everybody watch this video regarding Battlefield Bad Company 3, fom Levelcap.

I know, why am I talking about Battlefield in a GTA VI thread? But the 'leaks' and rumours circulating recently regarding  PS5 have been proven to have a lot of credibility https://pastebin.com/PY9vaTsR

Much of that has proven correct, in regards to the PS5 specs. The reason why I bring up Levelcap's Battlefield video is because he knows Battlefield quite well, and he knew someone that reliably leaked information for Battlefield 1 and somewhat less so for Battlefield V. He also had information stating that Bad Company 3 was the next Battlefield, and Tl;Dr BC3 & BFV were in development simultaneously (much like Assassin's Creed games) BC3 was meant to release first, but things changed.

Considering this, if Bad Company 3 does indeed release next year, I think we can start taking this a bit more seriously.

My only concern is, that pastebin information doesn't seem too hard to make up, games wise. Bad Company 3 has been rumoured for a while, perhaps more so wished for, though. HZD2 is a given, as is GT7. But yeah, I highly recommend watching hs video, as it gives a much bigger insight into this leak and how it could have a lot of credibility. It doesn't confirm or prove anything at all directly in regards to GTA VI. But through association... if he's right about most of it, then his info in GTA VI could also be true. I hope you understand my reasoning.

According to ps5 2020 pastebin leaks:
Personally, I don't believe in it (or, at least, partly) as I expect gta6 in fall 2021 - spring 2022.
But I would like to speculate about some facts and share my thoughts:

Scenario 1: Everything is true.
Let's play with the dates:
 - Fact #1 (pastebin): GTA6 Holiday 2020 most probably;
 - Fact #2 (wikipedia): The 2020 United States presidental election, scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2020;
 - Fact #3 (vg247 and Len Lfc): Dan Houser recently said that they're thankful they're not releasing GTA VI while Trump is in office.
Fits perfect. #MerryChristmas)

Let's play with the cities:
 - Fact #4 (pastebin): Been hearing rumors about Miami and New York, so 2 big cities, but im not sure if thats  100% true.
 - Fact #5 (InsideGaming and Len Lfc): the leak from the last year, that stated GTA 6 was set in Vice City and South America.
 - Fact #6 (iNero and ballerstatus) : "I’m bout to be in the new Grand Theft Auto that takes place in New York again,” said the DJ, - he leaked a tidbit of info about the upcoming title, saying that he will be playing an unknown role in the next title, which he says will be returning to New York City, otherwise known as Liberty City in the GTA world.
Fits perfect again.

Scenario 2: Everything is false, or partly true.
Ignore scenario 1 :D. Let's wait more info regarding gta6.

Smells tasty...
Thanks for your attention :)

Same here. I don't believe anything definitively. I think it's likely he had a little bit of info, and as we know things change frequently, info fast becomes out of date, or is lost in translation/misunderstood and becomes warped. I absolutely don't believe the 2020 launch. Again, it is possible, but I just can't see it, unless the've been working on it much longer than we thought, in tandem with RDR2. Which is possible, and might explain the lack of SP DLC. But I still can't see them being quiet about it for so long. they do like announcing early and getting that hype/desperation for info going.

I didn't know about the DJ, though... That is indeed quite tasty! Nice work!

One last thing I'd like to add. Could the rumour of Vice City AND Liberty City give us reasons why we saw Liberty City re done in the V engine, but never release? Perhaps it was early work in getting it integrated into the next games map, very similar to New Austin/West Elizabeth in RDR2?

My two cents on the Pastebin "leak":
It's BS imo.
I don't know the specifics about the specs that guy mentioned but the games list sounded like something anyone could make-up (They're either obvious choices or highly anticipated games by a lot of people)
e.g: Horizon 2? Ofc Sony's going to make a sequel to Horizon when the first one was successful. Bad Company 3? Some rumors about that popped up about a year ago and it's one of those highly anticipated titles in the vein of Half Life 3 type situation. Assassin's Creed is pretty obvious because they're skipping this year and Kotaku reported on the next one being vikings.
He also mentioned "remasters" for The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. What's the point of remasters anymore when the PS5 has backwards compatibility? They could just release a free update to add enhancements.

The point is money. There's already a few games that have been made backwards compatible on Xbox One, that have remasters. various Assassin's Creed games, BioShock trilogy for example. I already mentioned that the games aren't hard to make up, but just because they're easy to predict doesn't mean it has to be BS. It's something that I'll monitor and see what else comes of it. It's pretty much (minus GTA VI 2020, and perhaps BC3, as that's been wanted since 2010, so it's not something I expected to happen next) what I expected anyway, so there's nothing really new anyway.

Sony makes a lot of money from remaster. No way they would give you a graphical update for free. Not just Sony, just look at how much money Rockstar made from GTA V remaster.

Yeah, well the PS4 didn't have backwards compatibility. That's the point. I'm not sure they think remasters are profitable now that BC is a thing.

Vice City and Liberty City don't make sense to me. Besides the distance between them, I don't think there's any reason to go back to LC. As much as I love IV, LC's story is done, what would they add or do to it in a new game?

I think they might remaster Liberty City and release it as a bonus end-game area, kind of like what they did with RDR1 map in RDR2. Vice City is the main map, jungle in Cuba is the second and works as a "wilderness" part of the game, Liberty City is a small remastered map that you unlock late game and do missions there in online mode. This would be perfect for the 80s setting, because 2000s are pretty close to the 80s compared to today, so they wouldn't have to modernize or change Liberty City too much.

I would really like to see Vice city again but in the 80s, i am not sure if rockstar can deliver two time periods in the same game(80s,modern day).

But i guess this will require a LOT of work.

I don't know man, two time periods is something Drive Parallels Lines already did. I really doubt GTA would do the same.

Imagine that its a map similar to GTA5 but four times bigger with Liberty City at the top end, Vice City at the bottom. The two cities connected by an interstate that runs along the Appalachian mountain range.

At least, both are on the East Coast)
Personally, my dream is to have all gta cities on one map (ex. the Crew game). As we don't have any official info, it is still possible to have LV, SF or LS in the next gta.

Seeing some users here saying that gta online support is ending soon, has that been confirmed?? If that's really the case they have to replace it with something and I doubt that something is RDO 😉

I have my doubts judging from the fact that they've only released a new game this gen, overworking their employees just to downgrade their work on post-launch patches.

It's not confirmed at all. Users on here have been saying GTA Online updates are ending soon for years now. There's also a big contingent that expects a new update soon and/or at least one more big summer update.

My take: either Vice (state?) or San Andreas in its entirity.

Why? I have a couple of reasons

Vice state:

#1: leaks stated Vice City and south america. We know R* tries to get rid of loadingscreens. The only way to involve south america without loadingscreens is by adding an south american island. Cuba or Jamaica, Bahama's, Haiti etc. Would be perfect for this, since it is fairly close to Florida.

#2: it is the only state not given a HD rendition. The fans want it, and they definitely know it.

#3: the last most popular T2 games from the last few years have been RDR2 and Mafia3. Both using assets from each other and well... set partly in the same region. Vice would (at least partly) be set in the same region. Especially since we know that each GTA/RDR state is a combination from multiple real states.

My guess is that Vice (state?) is a combination of the Gulf of Mexico states with two major iconic cities and a 2/3 smaller ones. (Look at #4)

#4: they go bigger each time.

The map is increased in size significantly each time between games. My guess is that GTA VI would be at least 2x the size of GTA V, especially counting in if it is exclusive for next gen consoles.

More details as seen in RDR2 will be the norm, but the popularity of the countryside won't be forgotten aswell. That is why I expect at least two major cities and a few smaller ones (size of Paleto Bay). Add in some towns and you'll have a great full rendition of a state.

The South american island would probably have a Haiti/Havana city and drug fields etc.

#5: the popularity of drugstrade series

Narco's, El Chapo, Queen of the South, etc. They are immensely popular. Add in the still popular Scar Face and Miami Vice and they'll know they have a hit on their hands.

Even Vice City FM is one of the most streamed gta playlists on spotify 😂👌.

#6: VIce City. It is in the name

San Andreas:

Well there we are, San Andreas

#1: it was never fully fledged out. We only got 1/3rd of the state in GTA V. People have been dreaming of SA in its entirity since then.

#2: dozens of references in GTA V to San Fierro and Las Venturas.

#3: Both San Andreas and V were insanely popular. Due to the different locations and change of scenery (countryside and city). Players felt a need to own aircraft, boats served a purpose and modding your vehicles.

#4: South America

Mexico part could be added in combination with a San Diego combination. So players can again play without loading screens.

#5: populatity of west coast

Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, Mayans MC and the upcoming Once upon a time in Hollywood. They can reap in millions in profits by jumping on this bandwagon.

Conclusion:

- countryside returns, this is a given due to the high popularity and freedom it gives players.

- no loading screens while ingame.

- South America will most likely be involved

- focus on drugs and weapon trade has a high possibility

- multiple cities, to enhance gameplay, extend time players play the game, at least two major cities, perhaps three.

For online:

- online at least 64 players, map needs to be huge for that.

- online focus more on co op aspect (having an organisation together is my expectation).

- heists will be back; including radiant heist system (on the go).

Thanks for noticing :) it is mostly what I think we'll see and my conclusions with current information.

I tried to keep my high hopes to a minimum, although I do hope to see something similar to The Crew. In terms of city size and various cities in the gulfcoast.

They haven't had loading screens since GTA IV, so at this point it's a safe assumption to make that GTA VI won't either.

They did? What assets?

I'm not sure that's entirely true. Overall, yes, But with IV they went deeper and more detailed. I've seen various size comparisons between SA and IV, so I'm not sure which is accurate.

I don't see Rockstar as the people to base a game of what is currently popular. How Sam & Dan work is usually they just do what they want. So I wouldn't have too much faith in those reasons.

I do agree with filling out San Andreas though. After RDR2 I had a feeling that they may do San Fierro or Venturas, perhaps. Add them to V's map, like New Austin & West Elizabeth in RDR2. But, I'm trying to base my thoughts of more solid things than thoughts and feelings. It's difficult lol

2K and Rockstar do NOT share assets with each other. I'm not sure where someone would get that idea from. Just because they're both under Take-Two's labels doesn't mean that they share development assets and this is a fact. Saint Denis being called New Bordeaux in the leaked RDR2 map was just a coincidence. It was Saint Denis' original name.

@DisCrafted Just look at their bayou assets for example. Trees are exactly the same from RDR2 and Mafia3 (texture might have been updated though), bushes and other nature assets. You can observe this yourself if you want, I saw this and wanted to share it.

Multiple companies share assets between their own owned studios. First and foremost reason being to simply save money.

Anyhow that was absolutely not the focus I wanted my post to have.

@Len Lfc

San Andreas (2004) was actually very small and it just looked big due to the rendering distance and blockades (broken bridges, cliffs etc.) Just try to play it with maximum render and you can see from one side to the other. RDR1 is 2x larger.

Liberty City from 4 (2008) was about the same size as the whole of San Andreas, and that is AFTER disregarding a part of the city during development due console limitations at that point.

Red Dead Redemption (2010) brought us countryside and was a bit larger than GTA IV, also it had a huge draw distance, grear lightning and new animations for their characters.

GTA V (2013) was much larger but had to scrap loads of interiors to do so (no more fastfood restaurants :(). IV also had more pedestrians and more clutter on the streets. Draw distance, clutter and peds were increased hugely on Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions though.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) brought back the clutter on a map size similar to GTA V and gave us new animations, huge draw distance and better lightning and deeper interactions with npc's. Also the graphics were amazing.

My expectation:

GTA VI will likely increase the map size in the same scale as GTA V increased from IV. It will also keep the dense cluttered areas we saw from RDR2, increased graphics and more npc's at the same time.

This is why I expect multiple cities, but it looks like anyone expects that at this point.

Also during the call, Zelnick confirmed that Take-Two's two main labels, Rockstar Games (Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne, L.A. Noire) and 2K Games (Mafia, NBA 2K, Civilization) do not share their technology.

"We're blessed that we have two distinct labels at this company," he said. "We do not have a tech-sharing environment. We're a very congenial company, but we don't think that's the best way to get the best out of our development folks. It's not the way it works around here."

I don't think that Red Dead and Mafia had shared assets, but it's not entirely impossible even if Zelnick claimed it's the case. At least it makes you wonder how both games ended up taking place in very similar places (New Orleans, swamps, bayou), so maybe they shared research (i.e. historical documents, photos, site visits?). Even IV and Mafia 2 shared similarities in storytelling and the background city (New York, but also a mix with Chicago in Mafia). We don't really know how T2 does it especially if they want to cut the costs of pre-production. Vice (Miami) State can use Red Dead assets (e.g. swamps, tropics, gators), and guess what, swamps and tropics haven't been featured in a GTA game yet. Deserts, yes, mountains, yes, forests, yes, but not swamps and tropics. Interesting times!

I could see the concept of "empire" (for multiple cities, think like Breaking Bad "empire" building and management. Trevor has a kind Bud lite version of this in GTA V) perhaps something political, or  using the increasing economic inequality as satirical basis.

San Fran could be useful to that end, but I'm ambivalent as to what specific city is chosen.

Multiple protagonists also likely, with playing adversaries/both sides also possible (cop vs robber, Housers love the film Heat so much and have yet to touch that aspect).

Personally, I'd like to see multiple cities across multiple decades/instances. Your character(s) through the 80's/90's/2000's. Each decade in a different city. Now there's a moonshot.

We won't see anything until we're well into next gen. Anyone who says "next two years" is a gasoline huffing clown.

The time travel stuff is moon shot level. Multiple cities on next gen (not Xbox One X) for a "GTA World" will be doable and earn buttloads of money while only having to remaster 1-2 cities.

This company builds off of whatever they last did, I don't understand the "I doubt that", just keep your expectations manageable.
