Analyzing The Past to Predict the Future - Everything We Should Consider on the Road to GTA VI

The domains for websites featured within GTA V were leaked before the game released, but were the domains for websites featured within GTA IV leaked before it's release as well?

I'm wondering if GTA VI website domains could be leaked at some point, if there are any. If GTA VI is set in the past then there wouldn't be much in the way of website domains to be leaked.

I don't know about GTA IV. But I don't remember anything. However, before it's announcement in 2006, I didn't have internet. Things were a lot different back then.

Jesus, 2006 feels absolutely like another era. Two years to IV and the times of San Andreas...

Anyway, I don't believe we will see 6 on the current console hardware, I'm convinced that the thing will be ready at the earliest in 2021 and maybe even later. We've seen V announce in Nov 2011 to be released in Sep '13, but now we have nothing. R* can easily keep silence for another year and announce the thing on a short notice like they're intended to do with RDR 2 PC release.

I agree that 6 probably won’t be on current consoles. I speculate that Rockstar was pissed off that they had to release 5 for last gen consoles considering the game feels like it was supposed to be a next gen launch title but Take Two’s stocks had to go up. Now that Online lets Rockstar generate easy profit to take their time on their games I don’t see why they’d need to dumb down 6 for current consoles when they already are keeping Take Two’s stocks good with Online. Love Online or hate it, the story and attention to detail in RDR2 demonstrates that there are passionate people at Rockstar who want to make the best games they can. Episodes from Liberty City was cool but I would’ve actually preferred GTA 4 having the Online model so GTA 5 could’ve been a current gen game or released in 2014 or 2015 and with more RAM and time it could’ve been the living breathing masterpiece the reveal trailer demonstrated. With more RAM and time Red Dead Redemption 2 was able to be what GTA 4 and GTA 5 weren’t. And we can thank Online for giving Rockstar the time to really make Red Dead Redemption 2 almost surreally detailed and immersive.

They admitted, that they wanted to improve some things in GTA V on current-gen consoles but it would take too much time. Not to say, that they sold more copies on PS4,X1 and PC than they sold on PS3 and Xbox 360, no reason to compromise game quality to make it running on low spec current-gen consoles. I mean, PS5 is coming in ~14 months, PS4 sales are already dropping, people are awaiting next-generation consoles and games made for them. And like GTAhare said, we may not like Online but it made possible for Rockstar to make GTA VI for such a long time, we're approaching 6 years since we got GTA V on PS3/Xbox 360.

I believe in one of the interviews for Red Dead Redemption 2 somewhere they did say that they wanted to “fix” some things in GTA 5 such as the police AI for next gen that were caused by last gen technical limitations but they were too hard coded in  or didn’t have enough time. GTA 4 and 5, while both wonderful and important games, both feel incomplete.

Again, love Online or hate it, it’s allowing Rockstar to not have to rush such ambitious games out the door like they used to, and GTA 4 and 5 both suffered under that old release model. It’s not surprising the Housers are allowing Online to go strong despite apparently not caring for it. If Rockstar wasn’t able to take their time on Red Dead Redemption 2 it easily could’ve ended up a GTA 4 2.0. It also makes me wonder how much better GTA 4 couldve been if they had a couple more years on it. I surely wouldn’t have minded no single player DLC for GTA 4 if that meant getting a GTA 5 that would’ve combined the living breathing world of GTA 4 with classic GTA fun, instead of the incomplete-feeling game we got.

I'd love a source on that. Would be fascinating to read that. It's not something I remember reading, last year.

Great find. You can tell that in GTA 5 they did want to have you be able to interact with the world more but the hardware wasn’t there, whereas with Red Dead Redemption 2 with better hardware and more time they were able to realize those ideas. I’m now speculating that in GTA 6 you may be able to talk to any NPC like in RDR2. Even GTA 5 had that in a way but it was very basic, and RDR2 greatly improved upon it.

Very good, thought out, and thorough post. With all the speculation and "leaks", including what's in OP, here's what I think will happen and what I gathered from it.

  • GTA 6 will ONLY be released on next-gen consoles.
  • It will be revealed AFTER Sony and Microsoft reveal their new consoles (obviously, so they can put the logos in their reveal trailer)
  • It will be Rockstar's first game on next-gen consoles. (if Bully 2 is coming, then it will be on current-gen and will be revealed next month or November).
  • The Know's leaks are legit, and the only legit leak so far. It will be based on the east coast of America (Liberty City, Vice City), and South America. South American location WILL NOT be Rio, but will be based off Bogota. (Remember GTA Bogota?).
  • We've seen Liberty City being remastered, possibly for this reason. Also remember Rockstar threatening OpenIV supposedly because of "multiplayer mods", but obviously because they were converting Liberty City over and Rockstar aren't done with HD era Liberty City yet and didn't like them converting it over. Rockstar only threaten lawsuits when it reveals their future plans.
  • You will have the choice of playing as either a male or female to appease the social justice mob, though script will be the same, like Assassins Creed Odyssey.
  • It will be based in the past. Dan Houser is thankful to not be releasing it in todays political climate, stating "It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast"... How do you avoid that? Base it in the past and it will never be out of date. Esoteric message?
  • Release window - 2022? IMO if new consoles are revealed at E3 next year, then Rockstar might either do what they did with GTA 4 and announce it with Sony, or reveal it themselves in October-November that year with a surprise trailer. They will do the standard 2 year promotional period they done with GTA 5, RDR2. The Dan Houser quote if taken literally, could also suggest he's not expecting Trump to win 2020. But we remember what happened a few years ago and what everyone was expecting. Even if Trump wins 2020, they're not going to sit on it until 2025. He probably would've meant they will release it 2021-2022. 2022 is more likely. 9 years after GTA 5's release. RDR2 was released 8 years after RDR1. I don't think they'd want to go much longer than that. Heck, maybe they will reveal it next month for a 2021 release. That's what I originally thought at the beginning of this year.

Also I noted that R* wants to re-imagine AI traffic, which gives me a big hope for gta6. I liked the improvements from gta4 to gta5 and can't wait to see what will be in gta6... probably, a real drive simulator?))

Knowing how important online is for them, I can bet that you get to create your own character, which can be transferred to online later, or online will be implemented from the start and you get to choose to work solo or within a team.

  • Almost certainly
  • The first trailers for GAT V and RDR2 didn't have any console logos, so that won't stop them. But I still agree it will be announced after next gen consoles have been announced, which is only around 6 months away.
  • Kinda' a given, although if Bully II does finally happen, I do expect it to be a cross gen title, unless they treat it how they did Table Tennis, as a tech demo, essentially.
  • We have no way of knowing the legitimacy of The Knows leak. All of that is still speculation. The constant fake leask building off that falsely makes it seem certain that that location/theme for GTA 6 is likely.
  • Maybe... it's highly suspicious and interesting.
  • Pure speculation lol
  • That's the takeaway from his words yes. And It's what I'm inclined to believe too. However, people lie, for various reasons. And people can change their minds. I do hope so, though.
  • PS5 could be revealed around February, if they repeat PS4. Next Xbox, is uncertain. Both Sony & Microsoft would likely prefer to have their own stage, where all eyes are on them, rather than a shared event to reveal their consoles, like E3. Not that they wont talk further about them at E3. they will. A repeat of 2013 is a safe bet. PS5 revealed in February, and Scarlett in May. I'd still expect GTA 6 to release in 2023, though.

Whereas Red Dead Redemption 2 feels complete, both GTA 4 and GTA 5 felt incomplete. The thing is the Online model let’s Rockstar not have to rush highly ambitious games out the door like they used to. They have been able to take their time on Red Dead Redemption 2 and make their biggest game yet. Imagine if GTA 4 or 5 had two or even one more year of development.

I’m going by memory here, but wasn’t Take Two’s stocks not doing well in the early 10s so that’s why GTA 5 came out when it did? I can easily imagine without GTA Online RDR2 would’ve been released in 2015 or 2016 to keep stocks up.

It's true. Major publishers' stocks (i.e. ATVI, EA, TTWO) were late to recover after the 2008-2009 recession, and only took off after the expansion in the recurring consumer spending model around 2013-2014. Before this era, TTWO was primarily dependent upon the release of key R*'s titles almost on a yearly basis, and if it wasn't primarily for the success of GTAO, RDR2 would've likely released earlier in a lesser form. They definitely wouldn't be able to afford a 4-5 years gap between key titles without a stable, predictable revenue source. Not that they would go bankrupt, but at least the stock price will get decimated and investors will look elsewhere to park their money as TTWO returns back to the yearly releases era.

I think if GTA 4 had the Online model and Take Two’s stocks would’ve been good Rockstar probably would’ve spent 1-3 years more on GTA 5. It definitely would’ve

been a current gen title in that case. Had GTA 5 had just 1 more year of development I think even if it would still be a last gen title it probably would’ve had:

-more interiors

-better AI

-A more living and breathing environment

-more small details

-more animals

-potentially a bigger map

In other words, basically what GTA 6 hopefully will be with more development time and better hardware.

I didn't spend near as much time on the video as I should have... Sometimes when creating videos, I like to make them seem as genuine and authentic as possible. By that I mean, like a bunch of friends sitting around the table discussing video games IRL. Just one of those things I'm weird about lol. Sorry for getting a few things wrong. I know how YouTubers are hated on this forum but the sole reason that I made this video was 1. I had actually been putting a timeline of leaks and things like that together, then discovered that you beat me to it haha. 2. This thread is very well put together and I truly appreciate your work in putting this all together for the community. I always like to promote things that I find informative/enjoyable to others that might feel the same way. There's obviously more people on YouTube than the GTAF, so I was hoping to use my platform to shed more light on this topic.

Maybe you should use your mandatory 10 minute monetization time properly with crediting people from now on instead of repeating the same point over and over again

I did properly credit @Len Lfc from 2:00-2:15 in my video and within my mandatory 10 minute monetization time, nice try though. Right before I start discussing the information from this topic.

As I stated above, I provided credit to @Len Lfc BEFORE I started discussing what is in this topic. Not after. Even if I mentioned him at the tail end of the video, credit is still credit. Would that be a crappy thing to do, yes. It's common courtesy, not all YouTubers are going to take information and pass it off as their own without providing credit.

Yeah but even then we have to listen to some quite possibly unscripted drivel to, again, make sure you reach that 10 minute mark for that sweet sweet youtube money, when you could've just said "Yo I got this information from Len LFC it's xyz" and then start with your banter.

I don't have any problem with people taking this information and using it. I would just ask if you're going to, then take the time, put the effort in and respect your own work. Too often it just feels like people are in a race to get their video out.. My only problem with a lot of YouTubers is that they influence a lot of people. And when you get the facts wrong it can become a problem. And when other clickbaity YouTubers get ahold of your information, it can feel bad. And even make the original info look bad.

I suppose this could have gone in the GTA VI speculation topic, but I felt it belonged here as it looks at the past to predict the future.

I believe that there are a lot of hints to the setting of GTA VI in GTA Online updates, and that a lot of the relatively recent GTA Online DLC cars were created with GTA VI in mind. I will explain why and also explain why I think some of the vehicles and features from TBOGT were created with V in mind as past precedent for this.

Lets start with the GTA Online cars.

The first DLC I thought that the cars were seemingly higher quality in their details and interiors was Cunning Stunts: Special Vehicle Circuit. That DLC was released in March of 2017, by that time I think GTA VI would have been in production to some extent, at least enough to know what types of cars they might want it to include.

This DLC was also around the time in which the number of older vehicles started to rise. From the Beach Bum update to Import/Export the number of vintage vehicles was 28/66 or 42%. I only counted civilian cars for this, and no basic variants of each other or existing cars. I did count body style variants assuming they were still civilian as well as weaponized cars that still had a civilian appearance. Using the same rules, from Cunning Stunts: Special Vehicle Circuit to The Diamond Casino & Resort the number of vintage vehicles was 39/78 or 50%, an increase of 8%. In the Arena War update the 1960s/1970s Declasse vehicles were even given a new vintage style emblem. Many of the recent vehicles also have more unique handling than before. The rising quality and percentage of older vehicles is important to note as many people believe that the next GTA game will be set in the past.

Now why would Rockstar potentially be reusing assets meant for GTA VI in GTA Online? It could simply be as filler, or it could be because they have run out of other content. I can't confirm this myself but I have seen it stated several times on this forum and it does make sense, but supposedly The Doomsday Heist was meant to be the last DLC for GTA Online. That DLC had a huge new heist, tons of cars (many of which could have been for VI), and in general would have been a good DLC to go out with a bang. However GTA Online was still too popular to stop supporting, so Rockstar needed to keep making new updates. What they have done for the updates since The Doomsday Heist is build off of previous updates, or rehash ideas that they originally cut. Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series was a continuation of Cunning Stunts: Special Vehicle Circuit, After Hours expanded on the cut nightclub and dancing features, Arena War expanded on whatever the cut Maze Bank Arena interior was originally going to be used for (probably something similar), and now The Diamond Casino & Resort expands on the cut casino DLC from years ago. The Diamond Casino & Resort in particular has heavy 1980s vibes to it as well, from the amount of vintage cars to the vintage arcade games to the vintage style slot machines to the evil Texan business man Avery Duggan (who is similar to J.R. Ewing, from the popular 1980s drama Dallas) and to the casino penthouse decor specifically in the default colour scheme. If Rockstar is reusing GTA VI content as filler in the more recent GTA Online updates, it would definitely seem like they are hinting at a vintage setting.

Now we shall move onto the last time something like this happened, with hints for GTA V in The Ballad of Gay Tony.

The Ballad of Gay Tony was the last episode in Liberty City, being released later in 2009. By 2009 GTA V was already in development and likely enough so that Rockstar had an idea of some new vehicles and features they would want to include in it. I think that the new TBOGT exclusive cars were actually early GTA V vehicles and I will explain why. Some of them felt unfinished such as the Serrano and F620 for example, the Serrano was missing it's B pillars while the F620 was lacking all of it's badges. It could be said that they were made for TBOGT and simply rushed as there was not a lot of time, however I believe that they were unfinished GTA V vehicles. While many vehicles from GTA IV were cut from GTA V or never made it to GTA V at all, nearly every new vehicle featured in TBOGT made it to V. The Bullet GT, F620, Buffalo, 2nd gen Schafter, Super Diamond, Serrano, Police Buffalo, Akuma, Bati Custom/801RR, Double T, Hakuchou, Hexer, Vader, classic Faggio, Buzzard, Skylift, Police Bike, and the Caddy all returned in GTA V. Added later in updates the Tampa, Slamvan, APC, Swift, a new Brickade, and a variation of the Stretch E also returned making the Super Drop Diamond, Police Stinger, original Brickade, original Stretch E, custom Serrano, Blade (boat), Floater, and Smuggler the only new vehicles not to return. In other words, the only TBOGT vehicles that didn't make it to V were unused, variants of other cars, or boats.

Some of the new activities featured in TBOGT also ended up making their way to V and Online such as golfing and base jumping, dancing was also planned but cut and then reused for After Hours.

The Ballad of Gay Tony gave us several hints as to what was to come in GTA V and Online, and I suspect that the recent GTA Online updates have been giving us even more hints and clues as to the setting and what's coming in GTA VI.
