Picking up ammo

Hello,  I've noticed while playing GTA LCS that I can pick up ammo of weapons I don't have

Like when I have a stubby shotgun and I kill someone with a regular shotgun, when I stand on his dropped weapon I hear a clicking sound and see my ammo increase but since it's a different weapon, I must switch weapons to take it

What do you call this process, picking up ammo of different weapons?

It gives an ammo. But you don't need to pick up

Yeah I know, but I did the unlimited ammo trick with an m16 and now I almost Finished rampages (only one left, done many om0 with it) and I wanna know if the m60 which will spawn after I finish the rampages will have the unlimited ammo too or not

Out of curiosity, why do you need infinite ammo for weapons? Getting 100% completion will already give you infinite ammo as one of its rewards, unless you want to get 9999 ammo for each gun earlier in game? If that's what you want, then just collect all packages and re-collect all your weapons every time you are at the safehouse. I got all the packages late in game (after third island opened) and was still able to get 9999 ammo for certain guns like the SMG until I reached 100% completion which gave me infinite for every gun I had (except the Camera). No need to do om0 glitching nonsense.

Also to answer your main question (already answered by markusizr), if you have a different type of weapon (shotgun, uzi or assault rifle) and you try to collect a dropped weapon, the game will tell you to replace weapon if you want but the ammo from the dropped gun will be added on top of what you already have (this behavior was in VC and SA as well), so you don't need to replace the weapon unless it's better than what you have. Hope this helps!

I think I forgot about the 100% completion award, thank you very much

But some weapons doesn't pick ammo or doesn't transfer ammo when exchanged, for example I have an m16 and when I walk on the AK47 the one on top of the strip club in red light district (forgot it's name) it doesn't pick the ammo

No problem! And about the ammo not transferring, that's because it only works for weapons dropped by enemies. If you go around the map and try to pick up weapons that are found around the map, you MUST replace the weapon you have to get its extra ammo. I recommend doing that for AK47 because the M4 (it's not m16 in LCS) can be found at safehouse after you collected enough packages (60 I think), unless you didn't collect enough packages to have it spawn. In that case you'd need to search for M4 around the map to get it back if you decide to replace it with AK47 just to get extra ammo. It's up to you to decide, but if you have enough ammo for M4, you don't need to replace with the weaker AK47 just for 30 or so extra bullets.

I remember when doing the mission where you kill Vincenzo (the mission with chainsaws) I had a pistol with lots of ammos, saw a Colt python near the entrance of the ship and after I replaced my weapon, it didn't transfer ammo

So I tried going out killing some cops and taking their ammo off the ground with the Colt python, it didn't work

So I switched back to normal pistol

I think pistol and Colt Python use different ammo. They're obviously very different calibers, that's for sure.

Yes, the pistols use different ammo type, that's why you can't transfer ammo from one to another. Like I said, the ammo transfer only works with different types of shotguns, uzis/smgs and assault rifles.
