Tint windows in 3DS MAX for GTA SA vehicles

Recommended Posts

ChAndrew

Can someone help me out with this issue? I'm fairly new to this stuff, and I'm using 3DS MAX not ZMODELER. I have read some tutorials regarding this on the internet, but they were not specific and rather confusing.

You pick the material of the windows and you adjust the alpha and/or the colour of the window. For alpha 1.0 = full opacity and 0.0 = full transparency

Wait can you show me a screenshot. I'm quite confused here. You're referring to 3DS MAX right ?

I'm up to this stage right now. I just can't figure out what to do next.

UPDATE: Actually I solved it lmao. So for those of you out there still requesting for the solution, I suggest following 3 simple steps to the solution I found:

1. Select the object in which you want to tint the window, for example the door

2. Since you cannot "specifically" select for the driver's side or passenger's side window because it is attached to the door, right click and select, convert to editable mesh

3. Open modifier list and select "Element"

4. Select the object in which you want to tint which is the glass (at this point the program should specifically select the window on the door of the car)

5. Open material editor, by either clicking 'M' or navigating it via the navbar and select 'get material'

6. Select GTA Material, and set the alpha to 0.0. At this point you should see the ball preview thing turn transparent. Go ahead and drag the ball to the selected object (the window of the car i mentioned earlier)

7. Then what you want to do next is bump up the opacity of the window by changing the alpha value again. I personally use 244

8. What you want to do next is to change the color of the tinted window. Do that by clicking the color on the GTA MATERIAL and bump the slider to a color of your selection. (For the perfect tint, I suggest you pick somewhere near grey and black. Not too dark because we need a white to compensate for the transparency)

9. At this point you should see the ball preview image change. Drag the ball and drop it to the selected material which is the car's window. You should now end up with a tinted window

10. To tint all windows, follow repeat step 1 to 9
