It makes your accuracy 100%. No blooming from aiming reticule. Your shot will land perfectly.

Depending on the dead eye you used, they'll granted additional bonuses:

A moment to recuperate III - regenerates own HP until you get shot. (Faster healing than 'quite an inspiration III').

Focus fire III - Increases team damage.

Paint it black III - You can paint x on enemies then press RT right trigger to shoot at all the marks.

Slow and steady III - Headshot won't kill you in one shot and you take less damage from bullets. But you can't run or sprint.

Quite an inspiration III - Everyone in your team gets healed.

Slippery III - You can't auto aim onto enemies and they can't onto you. But your dead eye will drain quicker.

Also, as your dead eye ability increases it will have added benefits regardless of your Dead eye perk card. It will automatically highlight critical points in prey (head, heart etc), allow you to automatically or manually hit those areas for a clean kill. It's a bit if a cheat in hunting but it will help until you feel more confident taking down targets on the move.

Sounds like you have the Slippery Bastard dead eye card equipped. It makes you immune to autoaim while activated but also unable to autoaim yourself.

Pause > Settings > Controls > Lock-On Mode (On-Foot): Wide / Normal / Narrow.

Make sure it isn't "Free Aim".

If you don't want your dead eye to drain that fast, exchange Peak Condition, Winning Streak or Never Without One for Unblinking Eye.

What is the difference between wide and narrow?  Like, what does that mean?

At the moment there is no point in me doing/changing anything as its not working for me.

Ive asked the above question because ive never had deadeye do anything for me it just gives me orange/yellow screen with free aim since day one. From what im reading im missing out greatly and wanted to know why, Ive come all the way to level 110 without using it but hoping for some clarity on how to gain from it

Its becoming clear whenever im in a shoot out why i dont kill many if any enemy compared to other posse/players

Thing is i dont know whats supposed to happen when i activate it either

If the setting is on "wide," auto-aim will lock on to the biggest threat even if it's not close to the center of your screen.  Most showdown and pvp players use wide for fastest lock-on and to avoid being surprised by enemies.  For hunting however, it can get pretty annoying because you'll be trying to aim for those valuable birds in Lemoyne, but the wide aim will cause auto-aim to lock on to the alligator near them.  I've lost too much money by forgetting to change my aim to narrow or normal for hunting.

Why spend hard earned dollars on more cards etc when its clearly not even working for me I activate and all i get is orange/yellow screen and free aim ? hence no point in spending till auto aim at least works. Ive spent thousands on several different combinations all to the same result, I may as well not have any as thats how it works for me currently.

Is there something else in settings i need to switch on ? to enable

You can manually mark targets?. Really?. All I seem to get is auto marking.
