Good to pick up when you're fed up with the rest of the series and want something extra. The game has imho one of the best atmospheres in the entire series, the late 90's, the 90's music, the 90's vehicles, the 90's darkness though I completely despise the awful story and protagonist. Posted February 21, 2019 Share Posted February 21, 2019 LCS gets a lot of flack because it lacked a lot of features present in San Andreas, considering it was the game directly preceding it. But I think what a lot of people forget is that this game was built to run on the PSP! In 2005 a handheld game that as big as, and runs as well as, LCS was a huge shock. alex0264 Posted February 24, 2019 Share Posted February 24, 2019 Absolutely love it. I remember buying it the day it was released on the PS2 and loved it immediately. GTA 3 was brilliant, Vice City I quite liked, San Andreas I got fed up with all the fitness and eating involved in the game, although for it's time it was a huge game (I remember pre-ordering and eagerly awaiting the release). I like the way the game portrays both GTA III beta (i already know vehicles are in SA style, plz dont bully me) and a darker version of GTA IV's atmosphere, especially during sunset. Anyways, it still misses several features, like HOW'S ANNIE? said. Sometimes the mafia-themed story falls into a cliche, if you know what I mean. As well, some beta stuff that didn´t make the cut could've been optimized / reworked and most likely there wouldn't be storage issues. Just wondering, why did they remove the Skoiloine? On a handheld? In 2005?! No wonder it became a bestseller. Hovewer, the story is really dumb and weird at times, especially Ma's missions. But if you look at the awful PS2 port, and then the glorious VC, SA and VCS... Leeds did a good job, but it could do better. It was revolutionary for a PSP game, and it's still a fun game to play, but it doesn't standout very much today IMO, mainly due to the lack of important gameplay elements like grabbing into ledges, crouching and swimming, as well as the lack of interiors and canonically flyable helicopters, which led to leave most buildings roofless (obviously, since the map is based on GTA III's after all). Not to mention the very basic protagonist and story, as well as the bland antagonist and purely cartoonish characters. However, the city's layout is pretty good, based on the standards and limitations of the 3D era. And the atmosphere is truly fantastic. I'd even say that it's on par with GTA Vice City's.
