If your character was an NPC for a new business, what would they be doing and what would they be like?

Recommended Posts

Cameron Star

Like Agent 14 guides you through the gunrunning business, he's charming but sleazy but irritating. Your CEO secretary kisses your butt and asks for shares while filing her nails all day. Dave does something, or nothing, with one of the worst English accents imaginable and doesn't know the Summer Of Love was half a century ago.

So, if your character was a mentor to another character, what would your profession be and what kind of services would you offer as a contact. What kind of things would you say to the player to remind of objectives, or when they're successful or unsuccessful, or would you always be on hold?

I can picture my character being sort of a depressed f*ck, just going through the motions for some international piracy update.

"Yeah, here's the warehouse, you bring crates here, you've heard it all before."

Texts would come only at the start and end of missions, a call or two regarding product defense or sale descriptions, with the VA doing their best to sound uninterested.

It'd be a good contrast to all the happy go lucky "please buy these paywalls" NPCs.

3 fun scenarios for me. Cool thread idea this.

I'd either be the stereotypical redneck hillbilly trucker to introduce folk to a legit trucking business, but one that's like the nightclub in that we transport illegal good too of course.

Or, I'd be a washed up surfer dude that was once well off from a dead aunt or something that left me enough to buy a weed shop, but smoked a bit too much so need players to invest into my shop. Passive income for them, all the green I can handle for me, win/win. I'd then get the players to make street deals on the side too. (Though I gave up the bud IRL once the kids came).

Third one. I'd be a struggling adult entertainment producer because smutthutt (I tried to 'GTA' a certain adult website there, sorry) killed my industry, so looking for some heavies to invest and lean on others to be sure I got performers willing to do a job. Probably have that twat Lester involved with the technical's to help fish out the servers they use and my players to take 'em out. :)

Just had it pop up saying my posts need to be verified by the mods. Curious why guys?

Mine would have the "professional" attitude of Agent 14, knows exactly what to do, does it very quickly and discreetly; but with a slight, healthy dose of paranoia from Nervous Ron.

Great idea for a thread!

Russian Spy Cell - Coded Contact Name Red Kal'mar

My character as a contact would be a Russian Spy Cell, recruiting from within San Andreas to establish insurgent forces to overthrow the state.  After receiving an encrypted message by someone going by the name of Red Kal'mar, you drive to Elysian Island to meet with him at the docks to discuss a new business opportunity.  Kal'mar is clinical and straight forward with his manner and talk, possibly ex military or intelligence, or maybe still is...

New ‘business’ to buy:

Safe House

This is your base of operations as a new Russian Insurgent Cell.  It is a small property, basic living conditions - nothing fancy.  Basic features include gun locker, free drinks to restore health, free snacks in cupboard to replenish supplies, computer, bed, bathroom, 2x car garage.

The ‘Minder’ - For the first time ever, you can choose to have a ‘minder’ who stays at the Safe House, but you can call upon to assist you on all Free Roam activities and can be set to follow, stay, defend, attack, wait, provide cover etc.  The ‘Minder’ doesn’t talk much – only ever saying “da” or “nyet” or cursing in Russian, but nothing else.  He’s strong but can get ‘killed’ and will respawn back at the Safe House and has a 2 minute cool down.  He is equipped with a Switchblade, Combat Pistol (silenced when in stealth mode), Mini SMG (Skorpion), a Compact Rifle, and for long range targets or when providing cover to you from a vantage point, a Heavy Sniper.

The Safe House can be upgraded with a hidden basement which can be equipped with a bomb lab, intel gathering computer and weapon manufacturing room.  You can choose to add any of these or all of them.  These work as new 'Businesses' and generate ‘product’ for you that you then pass on to a Russian contact (similar to delivery missions) and you get paid for your services.   ‘Businesses’ under this will be referred to as Russian Agent Ops.

Russian Agent Ops

These are source-style missions that you have to do in order to ensure your Bomb Factory, Intel Gathering Computer or Weapon Manufacturing Room has the supplies needed to produce ‘product’.

Bomb Lab - Staff:  Kukov, bomb specialist and chemical scientist.  Get him the supplies so he can make explosives and deadly chemicals.  Ops involve carrying out raids on military targets, Humane Labs, hospitals, and chemical companies.

Bomb Lab bonus:  allows you to collect free explosives like stickies, grenades, pipe bombs and any other throwable explosive, including tear gas.

Intel Gathering Computer - Staff: Dimitri, cyber-warfare expert.  His Ops are a little different.  Some involve stealing computer supplies or documented secrets from targets such as military, police, FIB, Noose, politicians, media, but some involve you having to place bugs and other surveillance gathering equipment in sensitive locations Dimitri asks of you.  These missions are stealth heavy.  The ‘product’ he produces is hacked data and intel that he stores on encrypted disc drives.

Intel Gathering Computer bonus:  Thanks to Dimitri’s hacking abilities, his bonus involves a random 25% discount on ANY vehicle, boat or aircraft, property, upgrade, business or anything that can be purchased online.  This randomisation changes every 48 minutes (real time), or each time you complete one of his Ops, so be sure to check the websites regularly!

Weapon Manufacturing Room – Staff: Natasha, a weapons expert, sniper and ex arms dealer.  Her Ops involve carrying out raids on military targets, police, gangs, NOOSE and Ammunation – be sure to wear a mask when raiding otherwise you’ll be blacklisted from the store for 96 minutes (2x in game days).

Weapon Manufacturing Room bonus:  allows you to collect free ammo for pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles, SMGs and ARs.

Deliveries:  Single vehicle.  Can be 1-3 drop offs.  Can be done solo.  You can meet varying resistance such as police, gangs, NOOSE, FIB, private security, depending on what you’re delivering or more to the point, who you’ve pissed off the most.

Delivery vehicle:  Delivering weapons and bombs, it will always be a van.  You can choose your own PV van (yes even weaponised armoured ones) but be warned, you will show up on radar to the lobby).  Or you can choose a normal street van provided to you for the mission.  This has no armour or protection, but you don’t show up on radar.

Delivering intel can be done either on a motorbike or normal car as the intel is stored on small encrypted discs so doesn’t take up any room.  Again you can choose your own PV bike or car but you will show up on radar to everyone.  Or you can use the assigned vehicle for the delivery which doesn’t show on radar but has no offensive or defensive capabilities.

Insurgent Missions

On top of the money-making Ops, there are also VIP Style missions you can do alongside at any time called Insurgent Missions.  These missions are designed to create subversion, sabotage and destabilisation to the state.  Insurgent Missions would include:

Assassination – (unlocked by having the Intel Gathering Computer in your Safe House) - A target spawns on the map that you have to kill.  You can select easy, medium or hard difficulty.  These payout different amounts.  The harder the target, the more protected they are.  The target doesn't show on the map, just the area.  You have to use your own detective skills to locate the target from a photo sent to your phone.  Targets involve politicians, high ranking military, celebrities, journalists, businessmen etc.  Sometimes, it will involve you having to get inside a building or a house to locate the target.

IED Strike – (unlocked by having a Bomb Lab in your Safe House) - Steal a van off the street, put a bomb in it (free to do thanks to Kukov) drive it to an area and park it, all whilst avoiding local police and FIB agents who have been tipped off that an attack is possible.  Successful delivery of the vehicle and detonation grants payment.

Fried Bacon - (unlocked by having a Bomb Lab in your Safe House) – You are provided with a van and an unlimited stock of Molotov Cocktails.  You have to drive around and use these to set fire to 3x police stations (any 3x) and 10x police vehicles.  During the chaos, and with the police force temporarily crippled, flee the area e.g. out of the city and the mission ends and you get paid.

Tighten the NOOSE – (unlocked by having a Weapon Manufacturing Room in your Safehouse) – You join 10x fellow NPC insurgents (number decreases if you have other players in your crew).  8x NPCs will bundle in their own vans, you and the remaining 2x NPCs will get in your own van and you all drive to NOOSE HQ.  Your mission is to carry out an armed attack on NOOSE HQ, killing anyone who stands in your way, storm the main complex, plant an EMP bomb and then escape the area.  Payment once escape is successful.

Crimson Dawn - (unlocked by having a Weapon Manufacturing Room in your Safehouse) – You join 10x fellow NPC insurgents (same as above) and this time have to parachute into Zancudo Military Base or Paleto Bay where there is a military exercise underway (randomises), kill all opposition, RPG target vehicles, buildings and supplies, storm one of the barracks and assassinate a high ranking general.  With the base crippled, steal a military truck and escape.

You Mustn’t FIB - (unlocked by having the Intel Gathering Computer in your Safe House) – You join a small group of NPC insurgents to sneak into the FIB HQ and upload a computer virus to key terminals in the building.  This is a stealth mission so silent weapons are a must.  Sneak back out of the building undetected to be paid.

Pop Goes the Weazel - (unlocked by having a Bomb Lab in your Safe House) – this mission has two parts.  First part is gaining access to the Weazel News building, and finding out where the main editor is currently vacationing.  Once established by hacking into his computer, leave a bomb in the building, exit and watch it go up in flames.  Then head to the location of the editor – he’ll be on his private yacht.  Storm the yacht and kill the editor.  Plant another bomb to sink the yacht.

NB: By insurgent I don't mean the vehicle. I'm talking about a person, aka rebel, terrorist, insurrectionary etc.

My character jose, would become like a funny witted guy filled with dad jokes, but never get the other guy into a mess like setup/sting or gang attacks like tony, LJT or 14 does, i mean they should've seen it coming with their tech TOOLS

Jose will guide you into a spiritual journey in a drug dealing paradise through the ocean with some new boats and new island and a new street deal system, grab 100g from the lockup and sell it to another players in session (it works like BST) and surely enough i will protect them from gangs and police sting like a mentor should do, by giving them a signal jammer from the cops or a backup npcs to guard you in a sell missions,

Well, Flint's supposed to be something of a professional, with a head on his shoulders and bags under his eyes. I've always imagined him as closer to the lawful side of Los Santos' criminal underbelly - repossession, gun-for-hire, getaway driver - and always in pursuit of something to be part of, be proud of. In light of nightclubs, I think that's already been achieved in-game, but as an NPC "support" type character... Hmm. Two ideas.

First, stemming from a fondness for the automobile, he could serve as a contact for high-stakes street racing and high-end customization of cars for racing, both legal and not. With connections to some of the big players of Southern San Andreas as well as Liberty State, Flint could hook the player up with big-money racing circles, sending sponsorship deals and bets their way, as well as chop shops, unlocking new customization for long-standing and brand new vehicles alike. As a character, I wouldn't want him to be a nag - he's a more quiet, intense type, after all - but like Ron once the player owns a hangar. Just a reminder via text (and occasionally voice) that there's opportunities available, taking a small (5%) cut of whatever pay the player makes from racing, and serving the role of proprietor for custom-built and exotic cars on a website like (but less professional-looking than) Arena War. He'd appear in chop shops and in race win screens with the player character.

Second, based on his adaptive, mercenary character, Flint could serve a more global role, taking control of the player's businesses much like the goods accruing feature of nightclubs, but with automated generation/acquisition of assets for individual businesses. Acting like an almost-unseen NPC associate, Flint could be hired to oversee a single business and operate it (at reduced profit, as he takes a cut) with little interaction from the player, risking the chance that a deal could go south and a shipment/delivery be lost. Like the stolen records and friend pick-up events seen in After Hours, there could be rare instances where the player needs to save him or supply a vehicle/weapon. Still, not a nag, only communicating in voice when it's urgent, using texts otherwise. He'd appear in whatever respective business hub he's assigned to - clubhouse, office, nightclub, hangar - while hired, and could be reassigned or fired.

Some dialogue examples in the spoiler below. He's got to talk in a Brooklyn accent, of course, but not heavy. He hasn't been to Broker in almost a decade, after all. But he is a tired, middle-aged, asocial smoker, so... Gruff, but not hostile.

Spoiler

Concept #1 Lines:

For new business reminder calls:

"Thanks for picking up. Name's Flint. I've been looking for somebody in, ehh, your line of work. I've got an... opportunity for you. Experience with cars - parts and racing - would be helpful, but we can talk details in person. You interested? Look me up."

"Hello? Yes? Hi. Right. This is Flint. I'm trying to find somebody... extralegal, with an interest in cars. Mechanics, racers, whatever, just no five-o. Find me online if you're interested."

"Did I already call this number? Oh, hi, I'm Flint. I'm looking for experienced drivers for a, uh... A local opportunity, let's call it. Mechanics, too, if you know anybody. Should be on Eyefind if you've got any leads."

Reminder/opportunity lines:

"Hey. There's some sponsorship deals available, if you're interested. Check the site for details."

"It's Flint. Some bets against your times got posted recently. Think you can prove them wrong? They're on the site."

"A race is starting soon. It's on the up-n-up, so the sponsors will be paying. Keep it clean, we might get a bonus."

"There's a race coming up. Homegrown thing, everybody adds to the pot, and anything goes. Good luck."

Concept #2 Lines:

For new business reminder calls:

"This is Flint. I'm something of a general contractor, and I'm for hire. If you've got a business you want somebody else to handle, I'm your guy. Give me a call and we'll set something up."

"Hello. I'm Flint, and I understand you're a person of many interests, right? Well, if you're losing interest in one way or another, I can handle it for you. I'm just a call away."

"To survive in today's Los Santos, you've got to have help, I know. I also know that most independent agents you'll hire are inexperienced, unfaithful, and greedy. I'm none of those things, and I won't even get in your way. Give me a call."

Event lines:

"Hey, boss. I think I've got the next delivery all figured out, but I'm gonna need some hardware. Can you deliver (weapon/vehicle) to (location)? Not sure I'll manage it without."

"I need evac! It was a f*cking sting, I should'a seen it coming. Damn! Get over here as soon as you can, boss!"

My character would most likely be someone's office assistant, or work at the nightclub's back office. Either that, or maybe be sell clothes in a Ponsonbys/Perseus store, or be Bob Mulet's sidekick. She's definitely someone who would live and operate in north-west LS and/or Mirror Park.

He'd be in charge of a kidnapping business. When you meet him they'd be using sign language to communicate with you since they are mute. What does he need the abducted people for? And who are his targets?

Also, can other players intervene, rescue the abductees and deliver them to a police station?

Spectre "2K"

My character would be a very work first, talk later type of girl. Mostly texts you, but if she did speak it would rarely be beyond a sentence. Being she's a German-American hitwoman, She'd hire you for the contract killing business after purchasing her mandatory paywall- i mean...planning hideout.

She'd be a contact on your phone (named Justine, for reference) that actually serves a purpose. Calling her allows you to prepare on the fly, including asking her to hide a crate of body armor nearby (4 vests) or secure a site, which would give you wanted level immunity in the assassination area if things went south. Calls wouldn't go beyond her saying "Hi." or "What needs to be done?".

The contracts themselves would be like a mix of dispatch services and biker contracts. Assassinations would happen in freemode, with you getting to pick from one of three contracts. Picking one will auto-refresh the list. Payment would vary on importance of target and how clean and discreet the kill was. Using explosives and getting half of the LSPD on you for 15 minutes would pay much worse than a headshot with a silenced pistol and a clean escape, for example.

Justine would send you a text either commending or condescending of your performance after the job is done. Simple things from "Couldn't have done it better myself." or "Work like that's going to put you on a contract next, you know."

If you haven't purchased a planning hideout, you would either get one phone call or one text message per session. The caller ID would be unknown until the property was purchased. In cutscenes she would always be seen with a silenced carbine rifle (standard issue, not mk. ii) and a Cognoscenti 55 painted frost white.

Call: "so you're Madrazo's goon for hire. Don't say anything, I only need you to listen. I've put a few properties up for sale on Dynasty 8. If you're who I think you are, and you happen to obtain one, I'll be in touch."
Text: "You're him/her, right? The one people go to when they want solutions to their problems? Well I have an opportunity for you. Get a suitable safehouse to lay low in, and I'll set up the rest."

A middle man for contract hits, like The Fixer & Mr Black from IV & VC respectively.

Mark Crowne values anonymity & operating in shadows. He'd text you from a burner coordinates to a random phonebooth & then talks to you there using a voice changer.

He'd be brief, polite & professional, the conversation would go along the lines of:

Good morning/afternoon/evening, Your mission should you choose to accept it is in an envelope taped under the phone.

Once the job is complete, you get a text from Nick's Pizza along the lines of:

The client is pleased with the results, Thank you.

Payments would be the standard $30k & 1500RP. No session restrictions, no minimum players required, no time limit & no property purchase needed. Cooldown is the standard 10 minutes.

Once you're ready for more work, you call Nick's Pizza & you'll receive a text with the coordinates for the phonebooth.

The introduction to the hits would be a text as well, you'll receive a text from Nick's Pizza at the start of the session that says:

The art of good business is being a good middle man, I'm that middle man & experience has taught me that someone like you can be very effective for the right price.

No annoying phonecalls or people screaming at you.

Either for their organs, sell them off or just to kill them. He'll even let you kill them if you want to. His targets are whoever he decides so anyone. Ones that he kills are the random ones that you decide to bring him.

They can but thats only if other players see you kidnap someone. If you aren't seen by players they won't know and they'll have to guess who the kidnapper is in the lobby.

Since the only things I ever do other than f*ck around in freemode are heists and doomsday heists, she'd most likely be a professional bank robber. Good luck working with her, though. Judging by the constant look of bewilderment on her face, I'd imagine she'd be the type to start going off on random unrelated tangents about how little confidence she has in herself, and then start pretending to wipe tears away with a huge wad of $100 bills.
