What are your favourite parts of the map?

Dark Rosewood Varnish

I personally love all the river and lake parts of the world.

Dakota River - Probably my favourite river in the game for scenery. From Calumet Ravine way up in the north all the way down to Flat Iron Lake. Would definitely recommend slowly trotting along the trails that run alongside the river between Cumberland Forest and Grizzlies West for some spectacular views and scenery. Donner Falls really is a sight to behold. Also hunting for Deer, Pronghorn and ducks more towards the southern portion of the river below Diablo Ridge and Horse Shoe overlook is a favourite past time of mine.

Kamassa River - Again another incredibly long river that has an epic journey from north to south. Starting way up in the gloomy forests of Roanoke Ridge before flowing into the swamps and Bayous, finally flowing past Saint Denis into the Lannehachee River. Favourite part of Kamassa is definitely the area in and around Brandywine Drop - the views from the top of the waterfall are astonishing. I discovered the area just below the waterfall while hunting for a Robin. Super peaceful and serene along the riverbed down there, love just setting up camp there, fishing and taking it all in. Taking a canoe down through the swamp region of the river at sunset is also something I'd recommend doing.

Owanjila Lake - Certainly my favourite lake in the game and go to spot if I need some Beaver pelts Another favourite spot to just set up camp and take everything in.

Heartlands Overflow - Only recently realised how much I like this spot. Nothing much to it other than just a marshy grass area but I went on a duck hunt there yesterday for some animal fat while the sun was setting and it instantly became a new favourite area of mine. Heres a pic I took while there...

With such a big and diverse map with so many different regions, points of interest and spots for scenery, it'll be interesting to know what everyones favourite parts are.

I hate to be that guy but the entire map is just fooking stunning. Can I say that this map is my favorite map? 😝 because choosing a favorite part of this map is kinda hard for me. The bayou is great. The desert is great. The plains are great. The mountains are great. The snow is great. The forests are great. 10/10.

The clear water mountain lakes Moonstone Pond and O'Creagh's Run are wonderful spots.  The northern Ambarino snowy sections capture the secluded quiet nature a place like that in real life is like.  I wish Tall Trees was larger.

And I adore the desert sections in the previous game.  They needed some more thought to match the rich textured aspect of all the new locations.  I'm not suggesting changing anything major it just needed to feel more hmm, "awake?"

It's really hard to pick just one since all of it is just stunning.

However I like the Heartlands because it reminds me of where my family came from (I'm a country boy) and it just has this "homely" feel to it.

Hard to say because it's all so great but I'll say that Saint Denis took me by surprise. I never expected a city, an actual city to be in a Red Dead game.

I think Saint Denis is Rockstar's most realistic feeling city yet. Mainly because of the alleyways and the size of the streets and whatnot.

In Los Santos the roads feel quite wide and the alleyways are few and far between.

Also the detail of Saint Denis is off the damn charts. What can I say, I love the fancy looking style of Saint Denis.

The heartlands makes me feel at home when playing with Arthur...The camp in chapter two was my favorite.😁

The heartlands are great. Especially out around Emerald Ranch; real beautiful out there. Cumberland forest can be pretty too.

Yeah I thought the same about Saint Denis as well. I was pretty much in awe when I first got there, it's feels like the most alive city Rockstar has made to date. So much going on with everyone going about their business.

This is a tough one, but I do love travelling along the Dakota river especially the northern half. There's alot of lovely places in this game, and the scenery has nearly got me killed a few times.

Going to get some hate for this but it's not really a city is it. You could fit Saint Denis into the airport in Los Santos with room to spare. Both cities in the 2 prior GTA titles were far more vibrant and realistic imo.

Some favourites:

Valentine feels like a proper western setting.

As Rain Falls points out, some of the views from the mountains in Grizzlies East are amazing.

Sections of the Kamassa and Dakota rivers, especially the waterfalls.

North of Big Valley for an area bustling with wildlife.

I love the whole map though - there’s so much variety in the feel of different locations.

I'd have to say the spooky elements of bluewater marsh and roanoke ridge are definitely enticing.

Big Valley is my favorite if I had to pick. From Lake Owanjila up to the Little Creek River. Strawberry is also my favorite town. Reminds me of trips to Colorado when I was younger.

well i really like the heartlands. it reminds me of where i grew up in tennessee. even if its not based on tn. it still reminds me of it. and i know roanoke ridge is partly based off east tn. and as someone who has been to east tn a few times it does remind me of it a lot. i also like all the towns in new hanover. they are really nice.

i also really like scarlett meadows. i love the red dirt. it is very unique. it reminds me of punto orgullo from red dead redemption 1. because punto orgullo was a desert but the sand was white. it was very unique looking. just like in scarlett meadows the dirt is red. i like it a lot. it reminds me of when i went through oklahoma one time. oklahoma has red dirt. so i thought it was cool. i also really like the civil war battlefield near shady belle.

and lastly i really like the geysers. they are very cool.

The two cities are 114 years apart so I dont really see how thats a fair comparison

You're also forgetting that the game is set in 1899 so for the time it would have been a decent sized city. Also size isn't detrimental to how vibrant a city is. Obviously LS was much bigger but it seemed pretty lifeless if you ask me.

Yeah it wasn't me who originally made the comparison. I was responding to somebody else's comment.

And I'm not forgetting what period the game is set in. Even in 1899 the city of New Orleans would have been probably 20x bigger than it's depicted in RDR2. So no, not really a decent sized city at all. It's more comparable to one of the towns in GTA V.

So many lovely places, but my favourite spot is around little creek river with the purple flowers.

Grizzlies West as a whole. The entire territory is so soothing yet eerie at the same time. You feel like you're alone in the world but somehow you also feel like you're being watched.

I also love the ambient music that plays there exclusively.

@tdavies457

While it's true that Saint-Denis is relatively small in scale, you have to remember just how big the map is supposed to be from the characters' perspective. The same way that a drive from Los Santos to Paleto Bay in GTA V canonically takes about 4 hours, a horse ride from Tumbleweed to Van Horn could realistically take weeks upon weeks. When the gang moves from one camp to another, they don't really travel that far from our POV but to them, they just bought themselves weeks of assured safety. So with that said, Saint-Denis is probably 20-30 times larger than what we see it as.

the general area between rhodes and emerald ranch would be one of my favourites, nice mix of forests and plains. Another would be north in Ambario where the river flows along the banks of the forest with steep cliffs, around the Fort Wallace area I think, its where I caught my first pike :D

It's hard to pick a favorite, there are so many great locations. I find myself drawn to the Kamassa River north of Brandywine Drop. I love hunting and fishing up there, I just wish it would rain a little less. The Roanoke Valley below Brandywine Drop is also a beautiful peaceful place to fish and hunt.

The Dakota River just below Window Rock is another great place. There's a hunting cabin that you can sleep in, and great fishing and hunting here as well. You can also grab a canoe and paddle down the river to Cumberland Falls.

The south end of the Dakota where the "S" bend is at is also great.

I also find myself drawn to the area Northwest of Pikes Basin. I just think it's a cool landscape, and the views down to Cholla Springs are awesome. Mescalero on the South rim of Pike Basin is also cool. It's not labeled on the map, but when you ride through the name pops up on screen. There's not much to do there. No great hunting or anything, but it has a great Western vibe. Mescalero is also a fun place to ride out waves of bounty hunters.

Saint Denis

The snowy North

Saint Denis rivals Assassins Creed games for sheer beauty.

Everything excluding Cumberland forest/Roanoke Ridge. Hate the trees. Prefer open areas that I can ride across (Heartlands, Big Valley, Great Plains, etc).

Each area has its unique beauty.

I'll pick Great Plains because it reminds me the type of terrain I've lived for most of my life #YellowLand

I moved into the Veteran's house on O'Creagh's run. My favorite spot.

Bill kept coming by every few days to tell me Dutch wanted me back at camp, but I never listened

New Austin. I'm just too much of a RDR 1 fan so i can't help it.

Judging by my photo album you'd think New Austin, but it's probably the East Grizzlies. Can't really decide though. Anywhere that has good campsites
