Griefers Ruin Hunting

Recommended Posts

Ever since this event, I cannot go more than one session without getting into an extended fight.   Thursday, I fought 5 groups of people.  And that doesnt even count the random low levels that I griefed back/revenge killed until they parleyed or left.  I am talking 5 separate groups of griefers.

The "x2 xp" ploy is drawing folks in like flies to sh*t. I wonder how many of them realize it isn't double xp they're getting lol.

Prior to this event. I would go 3-4 days without an extended battle.  Now, I can barely go 2 sessions.

Also... it seems all the bushwakers are trying to grief as much as possible... for they know their time is short (hopefully)

Two silly little boys attempted to grief me while I was in the St Denis tailor tonight, by chucking fire bottles into the shop, not realising you're invincible while you're in the wardrobe outfit menu.

If you're reading this, "Mrynoz" and whoever your boyfriend was, you failed spectacularly which is why you retreated with your tail between your legs.

2/10 must try harder.

Kiddos think that freeroam=fortnite. They don't hunt or fish, they certainly don't role-play. Their sole fun comes from causing grief for other players. Doesn't bring me any grief, I only hunt for meat & small game pelts now. If I see dots charging at me, I let 'em get close then switch sessions on 'em. I'm not there to amuse these fools.

I go out my way to advoid someone after getting a perfect bear pelt and other skins and they still come after me. So now I’m in a pointless battle wasting bullets.

The xp bonus for posses -- little as it was -- is over, but people are still banding together now more than they were, from the sessions I'm seeing. Problem is, they're mostly griefers. (They used to call 'em bushwhackers back then. A posse technically was a band of law-enforcers assembled by a sheriff, not a group of outlaws.) Anyway, it seems the griefing is worse now that they're not mostly lone wolves anymore. Makes hunting and fishing more worrisome than before -- at least for me. Thanks, R*. You really know how to exacerbate the problem.

Oh they're just going crazy on exploiting the player visibility now, since this will be gone soon haha

The double xp time was pointless at best. Every time I got dumped in the middle of a feud fight. Random posse invitations I give it a pass.

Player visibility is not the cure. I think the griefers will simply camp at butchers. There should be butchers at Van Horn and Armadillo.

R* need to add the Trappers to online. We can sell all the same items at a Trapper that we can at a Butcher in SP (I think?).

That would give a second location to sell in St. Denis, somewhere in the Annesburg/Van Horn area, the Trappers near Riggs Station and Big Valley give options around Strawberry and Blackwater and the Trapper just North of Macfarlane's Ranch means we wouldn't have to go to Tumbleweed when hunting around Armadillo.

It wouldn't be perfectly distributed, but it would help a lot.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. I'm really hoping we get one in Ambarino too. A handful more butchers would really hamper the griefing. Right now, in every session, in the dead of night when the sessions are usually empty, there are bands of troublemakers all over the place.

Yeah but what harm is that? It will only be a slight inconvenience at worst.

What you guys don't understand is that RDO is how the West really was

You'd go out hunting for food for your family and then a guy with a BB Gun would shoot you in the head from 50 yards out and kill you in one shot.

He'd of course get nothing in exchange for this. Later, when you respawn, you could try to hunt again but only if the P2P servers were working.

To be honest, Griefers are a big part of the game. Without them (me included) the game would suck bigtime! I do grief from time to time. It is just fun and thrilling also. I allways have a big smile when I stumble upon a griefer, its challenging ;)

Imagine without griefers, you could hunt all day without any exciting incidents. Pfff...I would play something else, game is pretty boring without any griefing. AAAAaaaaand..... 😛 it is the West dude....the Wild West. Not the little House on the Prairie

Its really fun to chase someone if he is running away. However..there is a huge difference between griefers and bullies (I think there are rules attached with griefing, unspoken rules) When I am "griefing" I keep it "clean" and!! I am not allways griefing...

I also can be a very nice guy :D

Griefers are the one who chase and shoot you couple of times and then head over to the mic and have some cool and nice conversations (at least I did...hell, I even was invited couple of times) and bullies are the one with a big gap between levels and guns/ammo

They only pick the weak ones in my opinion

I am from holland cant explain it very well in english, but I tried 😛

LOL it's funny because my wife said she wished it was more like Little House on the Prairie...she loves that show. No I don't want that at all. I just don't want to be shot at by everybody all the time, gets old quick (and costly). The Wild West wasn't quite that wild; there were good folks as well as bad. Lately I've come across some cool people who go their own way in peace, which is a nice change of pace from the insane "Battle Royale" that freeroam has been more often than not (especially during weekends).

They both ruin experience. Not much different there.

PVP is pretty much the only thing I really wanted to see in this game. So the jokes on them. I want to be attacked. It's a great way for me to hone my skills.

Everything PVP wise is just right for me. The weapon choices. Very few weapons extremely OP unlike the massive variety of explosive heavy weapons in Grand Theft Auto Online (GTAO). They either approach on foot or horseback. No aircraft...yet. Loving it.

One problem, as I see it, is that when most of the playerbase gets around level 100 and realises the OP-ness of explosive express ammo, I fear most of them will use that exclusively.

Does the game then become an explosive ammo, one-shot kill free-for-all? I hope not.

You have to then assume that any player at that level who attacks you is using it as default.

Don't get me wrong, I love PVP, but when its a drawn-out battle using different weapons and different cards for different circumstances.

When you and your enemy both hit each other and its a race to finish the other off first.

The only real counter to explosive ammo, as far as I can tell, is Slippery Bastard and melee.

The only real drawback to "Slippery Bastard" is that it can be countered with "Paint It Black". Shame this is even a thing though. I'd figure a rank 50 card wouldn't be so easily countered. I'm already skipping ahead and thinking how other cards may outclass it as well such as "Focus Fire" and "Quite the Inspiration" if and when freeaim only sessions become a thing. Hoping R* balances this out but I'd rather see all the bug fixes first.

Yeah that's true. PIB is the one card I really ought to upgrade but haven't yet.

There's a part of me that wishes RDO was entirely freeaim and I'm not even a freeaimer to begin with.

Yeah the bugs need sorted ASAP.

I must admit, my main focus is hunting and I find it thrilling having to navigate my way from point A to point B (whether that's my hunting ground or the butchers), whilst avoiding other players. Keeps it entertaining.

Gotta admit freeaiming has added an entirely different flavor to the gameplay to me. Freeroam was pretty much cancer aids until I grabbed the Slippery card. The funny thing about the Paint It Black card is it's kind of a sh*tty version of autoaim if it's allowed to trump Slippery in a freeaim only lobby. Strangely enough I don't see many people bothering to use Paint It Black. I'm always checking everyone's card deck near me and I chuckle a little inside when they use Slow and Steady.

I generally have NWO and Slippery in my line up when in free roam. It provides a good safety net in case I get jumped by someone I've not seen coming. Slow and steady is useful in Showdowns but not much use in free roam. In free roam it tends to be a one shot attempt and when they're taken care of I go on my way. Slow and Steady would be ok if you're going to 1 v 1 with them which I generally don't.

I have Paint it Black III but I never really find use for it and I agree I don't see too many using it either.

Paint It Black III outside Express Explosive lock-on range.

and I suppose one counter to PIB with explosive ammo is to zig zag randomly with SB and hope you don't get painted.

My current loadout for that is Slippery, Unblinking, Single Purpose and Fight Another Day whilst holding a knife and sprinting.

I'm not sure if the last 2 stack though.

Yeah not realistic at all. Everybody using bullets that blow things to hell lmao. Might as well be laser blasters. The sooner I accept the fact that this is designed to be a silly kid's game the better off I'll be. What I wanted was an approximate simulation of life in the Wild West -- but what it seems to be instead is fortnite with horses.

I'm a peaceable person who will hunt without so much as exhibiting any threatening behavior. I whistle and wave to put others at ease.

If you shoot at me though, out comes the bolt action with explosive rounds that'll run train on your ass as I spawn rape you till parley or leave the lobby like a bitch.

Problem is, there is no punishment that fits the crime. In the Old West, you had a good chance of being hung if the combat was not mutual. In RDO, absolutely nothing happens to you.

If the griefing is to be considered "how the West really was," how about bringing in some punishments like Judge Roy Bean/a "hanging judge" would administer. You shoot someone while he spawns in, you lose 5 levels off your character. You headshot someone while he's fishing, you lose half your money.

Let the punishment match that of the Old West. Right now, there is absolutely nothing I'm aware of. And I've been blocking and reporting since day one.

Those punishments are way to harsh for just killing a person one off. The upcoming bounty to pay and getting hunted is sufficient.
