So you're about to be tackled. What do you do?

Should go without saying you won't have lock on but you have time to react. Do you switch weapons? Retreat? Can you describe a time when you've had to overcome something like this?

I tackle first, then choke the bastard to death.

Having maxed out stamina is awesome.

Oh so your counter to being tackled is to tackle them first? Good idea.

Personally, I've been having trouble fighting these types. Thanks for feedback.

If they catch me off guard, I disconnect.

With the auto-shotgun though, I have managed a couple of swell executions.

Break free, quickly switch to knife while standing up and stab that mf*cker. He will die almost always, if he doesn‘t change to knife also.

I know this feeling. It happens when I run with slippery III and some level 100+ or 300+ is gonna counter it by tackling me. Cos I told 'em about it. So I just shotgun them by hip fire. Or... I just fight it out. The struggle. Then that turns into fist fight. Then we both get headshot. Another way to avoid being tackled, is to dodge or evade in another direction.

since I trained myself decades ago in track&field, I`m a master in high speed button mashing, so I chocke most of them to death :)

Just a tip for you guys. Going into the Options menu > Controls > Acessibility allows you to enable Tap Assist. You can set it to Hold, which means you don't have to destroy your Circle/B button everytime someone grapples you or when you grapple someone. Some might consider it cheap, but I use it shamelessly because I don't like having a sore thumb, nor do I want to damage my controller.

What Tap Assist does is that it basically makes every minigame where you're supposed to repeatedly tap a button be changed to just holding the button down. This guarantees that most grapples you're put into are easily escaped by just holding down a button instead of desperately mashing it. Also makes killing people in your grapples much less of a hassle.

There a reason for such a politically charged comment or is there some joke I’m missing

I think they're referring to a lasso tackle. They're annoying. I take the easy way out option.

You're right. In retrospect that was pretty inflammatory. I've removed it.

If you see them running towards you quickly pull out your knife.  Even after the tackle if they lasso you will just cut out of it right away. Then stab them in the neck because they will still be right there trying to wrangle you.

Not really the point though, if I'm honest.

Fact is most of that harmful mythos is a controlled narrative from an incestual journo clique who center their whole career around a consumer revolt that happened nearly 5 years ago now and was a thing for perhaps 6 months at the most, and whose opinions are about as valid as an expired credit card. It's no wonder then they're starting to lose their jobs, since when the well dries up, you have to move on. It's much more likely your boogeymen are either 12 year olds who got the game for Christmas and love to ruin everybody else's experience since that's what they're good at, equal-opportunists who'd do the same to a man, or soulless grinders who have no money and luckily for them, no empathy either. But if that's the way you really feel about Online, maybe it just isn't for you. Ideologues ruin entertainment.

I doubt most players would even be able to know who you are for sure, since there are many males on this website who play as a female character in GTA and presumably RDR too.

So do arm-chair psychologists.

As a 55 year-old male who plays RDO with a female character, there's no need to lecture me about the psyche of the online gamer. Whether someone is 12 or 70, I find certain aspects disturbing. I choose not to take part in those.

My apology stands. I have some definite opinions about a certain type of gamer who enjoys that type of behavior. I didn't express it in the best way and own that. But I guess that gives you carte blanche to do a psych work up?

Please.

If I get caught in a tackle, I usually just do the hip fire with my Cattleman. Sends them packing every time.

I'll be honest, I'm surprised at your honesty. I really thought this thread would quickly devolve into the typically one-sided political sh*tflinging that makes discussing sensitive subjects a near-impossibility outside of unmoderated Youtube channels and sites similar to this one. That's what usually happens.

Fact is though they are still quite ugly presumptions that at best fit a lunatic fringe. Fears that only serve to demonize and further fuel hysteria about a menace that doesn't really exist, at least not to the extent we're made to believe in the media; the male with zero interest in any sort of relationship. For me it's actually my orientation (or lack thereof), but I won't bog you down with the details. I guess I saw it as a personal attack since I have seen others get attacked in the past for identifying as something that "doesn't exist".

End of the day you just have to accept some people are going to act sh*tty when physically shielded/distanced from others. It's why many are eager to yell profanities from the window of their car at 40 MPH yet few are willing to stand by them once stopped or cornered. If you want to see online gaming at its absolute worst, look no further than Forza Motorsport:

All of this happened in one recorded online session. And there are thousands of similar stories out there.

If you anticipate an enemy player is gonna tackle you, try taking a bitter before hand. Guaranteed way to win every single time you get tackled. Its all based on who has the most stamina, the players just keep mashing the button till the stamina runs out for one of them.

The two times my character was tackled was in a cabin. Checked the map but someone spawned in very close. Totally my fault for not having situational awareness. Lesson learned :)  And thanks.

I've had luck with aim -> jump button -> headshot. Bellyflop away from him and then shoot the bastard.

The hand to hand combat could really use an overhaul
