Isn't giving suggestions allowed in reviews so that HOPEFULLY the sequels will be better, though? One needs no bugs, well written plots and characters, incredible replay value, balanced difficulty, and reasonable features rather than somewhat lacking from prequels nor jack of all trade - master of none for his game to be rated 10/10. Now try to name me one game that met those criteria and I'll let this comment slide.

My comment has nothing to do with suggestions. It was about people rating based on things that they believe was supposed to be in the game. You specifically mentioned "final versions of Ryder and Big Bear". The question now is, if you didn't HEAR about their earlier renditions, would that omission affect your judgement, no matter how small? Every game or hell, everything, has a "could've have" section that was not included in their final versions, and thus by your judgement, no game would ever receive a 10 from you. I already gave GTA: SA a 10/10 (of course not in your perfection criteria) in my earlier comment so.................😀

edit: PC port on the other hand......lol

I loved the setting, the music, the radio, the main character soooo much.

The voice acting, Jesus! Samuel L. Jackson as the main bad guy.

Rewards for collectibles/ completing activities were the best in the series.

This game became my go-to reference when thinking of other open ended games.

The story was a far fetched, but fun.

Some of the missions (Damn RC plane mission, getting all gold on flying missions) were frustrating to say the least.

9/10 objectively. 10/10 nostalgia googles.

That's because I speak from technical perspective and the reason that perfecting something is somewhat impossible. Why? Because some people will find at least a slightest flaw to make sure if it truly deserves 10/10 or not. That said, there is no justice in video game reviews. However, if every single developers are given infinite deadline, then it's slightly possible to make a legit 10/10 game. I get it humans sometimes tend to make mistakes and it's no exception for accidently make a glitch, but that's not an excuse to not try to be better than ever.

Oh, and Big Bear was supposed to have bigger roles while Ryder wasn't meant to be a traitor because "Yay ka-boom-boom" was the only time where Ryder was ever mentioned after "Pier 69". CJ saw Smoke and Ryder with C.R.A.S.H outside of a garage yet told Sweet that only Big Smoke made a deal with Tenpenny and Pulaski. It's like Ryder was simply put in there for no reason and not given even one line. So much for your statement about me not knowing their earlier rendition, mate.

Yeah, about Ryder... Do we actually have verifiable sources that state that his role was reduced during the production? I think all we have is the fanbase's speculation, based on the fact that Ryder's character arc was simply aborted at some point without giving him a proper send-off. And THAT is what the complaints are ultimately about. You don't hear people complain about downsizing Big Bear's involvement as much, do you? That's because he was a minor character to begin with, so there isn't much reason to expect much from him story-wise.

But the cutscene where Sweet decide to take care of bear is one big thing that should be fixed or maybe changed into something better. Some unused audio files reveal that Big Bear tells the flashback about Grove Street's downfall the moment Carl ran away or that Sweet didn't do anything about it, I guess. I don't know what should be done. Regardless, you can have your own perspective about this game and I can keep mine.

Ryder was seen with C. R. A. S. H in "catalyst" if I'm not mistaken. I don't have a problem with him betraying CJ. But the fact that he does not have new lines and a good "Send off" like Pulaski, Smoke and Tenpenny in the mission "pier 69"  is what I consider a flaw. The rest of his plot is good enough for the character IMO. He was a minor antagonist and a somewhat important secondary character in the first section of the game. He was loyal but in the end Smoke manipulated him with money. Also we know he is stupid. That's it.

SA has a lot of characters and antagonists. It's not a surprise they had to cut some of them in the middle of the story. I wouldn't want to kill all of them in the last mission.

A solid 9/10.

This is because SA is so ambitious, big, fun and jam-packed with so many good moments. It was the first game I could not put down. It is just that outstanding, that I wish I could forget everything about it, and play it again to embrace the thrill of the game.

However, it is not without it's flaws, like some weak writing (e.g. Ryder being forgotten), crappy AI, difficult missions, and vehicles being prone to explosions.

Despite all that, it will always be my favorite GTA.

I would say a 9, its enjoyable game in my opinion, it has its issues but i still really enjoyed the game, i love the amount of detail, the story, the charterers are memorable, the map is memorable, this game is just memorable, i know most of the missions without the directions on what to do, its just so memorable

I'd give it a 9/10 objectively. If I'm going to bring my bias in, 10/10.

I disagree with difficult missions being a flaw. What good's a game if it's a breeze? Also, if beating SA to 100% takes you 4 months, I think that's a you issue, not a game issue.

Anyways, I give it a 9 because most of the flaws above - generally just stupid annoying bugs and things that were randomly broken.. although the biggest issue to me is definitely the horrific AI. It is just soooooooooooooooo bad. They could have really made the gang recruiting much more of a fun thing to mess around with, like giving you more things to do with your homies like go into interiors, dance, etc.  I wasn't a big fan of Ryder's sendoff either, but I wouldn't consider this a big enough of an event to actually lower the rating.

Though honestly, the game is massively boosted by its ridiculous modding potential. You can do literally anything with the game - fix all of its issues, add more content, make your own things, play multiplayer... yeah, there will never be another GTA as legendary as this one. No one ever watched "GTA III Myths" and got the tar scared out of them in 2007 on YouTube like how they did with SA. Nothing will match it, even despite its stupid flaws. Completely destroys III/VC (really hate the inability to swim, it's so dumb), same with IV, (driiiiiiiiiivinggggggggggg mission #5285); V is close (because I think the characters are very entertaining).

The graphics have aged well, the story was good enough, but not the best, but the amount of content it had, along with a big map featuring 3 cities, a countryside and a desert, hasn't been matched or beaten by any game ever, and that was the unique selling point that made it a success in the market.

10/10 when I bought it in 2006, and still 10/10 to this day.

My only real gripe with it was the story, it was so vastly far fetched.  At least when Tommy done a hit on the mob, it was believable in more ways that one, he was in the crime families after all.  He done some serious jail time.

Tommy killed 11 people, got 15 years, immediately gets involved in a drug deal that's ambushed, escapes in a sedan driven by a coke addicted lawyer, murders a few hundred more including the most powerful criminal in the city, and then just lives in his house (Full of people he killed btw) without any attention from Diazs associates, the cops, or other residents of the island.

I bet when Tommy Vercetti was released from prison after 15 years, he was more motivated to find out the truth about his incarceration, rather than establishing himself as a leading player in the Vice City criminal underworld, which only added weight to his growing reputation so that the Forelli family knew he wasn't playing around.

Only in the final mission did he realise the incident he was arrested for was a setup orchestrated by the Forellis to take care of a loose end. After that he vented his anger over a botched job that put him in prison just because of a few wrong details. You can feel how passionate he was about the whole thing. The big mistake was the Forelli family organising an early release for him rather than killing him, and that got the ball rolling.

That's why Vice City was well written along with San Andreas, because of the events that occurred during their peak that put the cities in the media spotlight. Rarely do we find video game stories nowadays that can match that kind of atmosphere, even if you copied it somewhere you can still make it an original script by changing a few details.

10/10.

Still technically the best GTA game in the series in my view and experience of being a hardcore GTA gamer from III onward. Playing it even more after all these years since I first played and discovering new things has further consolidated my view. Sure, it is not perfect in every department, but it gave me the perfect experience in terms of GTA gaming - it pretty much either excelled or did very good in all the important departments for me.

The STEAM version is screwed up.

Settings for the GamePad are no longer possible.

In the previous versions, a button assignment was possible if the assignment was in a different column.

That is no longer possible.

i rate it 10/10 It is a masterpice without doubt, even if flawed. One of the biggest action-oriented sandboxes of that time (and, disregarding the outdated graphics, still). Yes, it's not as atmospheric as my personal favorite

No hell raiser by my man Ozzy tho :/ And SA to me without 2pac, Gap Band, and Rage aginst the machine ain't complete, lol. That's just me though. Gameplay wise the HD versions still holds up.

I'll just keep it simple here a solid 10. F*ck the fanboy sh*t. Has absolutely no regard in the reason why it's an instant 10 for me because it's the best damn game in the whole world...no. The early events just related too much. No other game has portrayed a vastly similar theme on LA's war on drugs, crack epidemic, riots, the real life C.R.A.S.H unit and it's terrible corruption amongst the neighborhoods and most importanly street gangs. R* got most of it right if not all. Probably with the help from DJ Pooh.  Looking back really SA just has a special place in my heart being honest.

After completing this game so many times. I'll still rate it 10/10. It's my most favorite game ever and GTA 3D Universe games were really amazing games with great interconnections in between them.

Don't get me wrong, GTA IV is a masterpiece too in terms of storyline but the memories and the happiness from when I was a kid and the constant trying to clear missions by trying the same mission again and again 70-100 times.

I'd rate GTA SA>GTA VC>GTA IV>GTA III> GTA LCS>GTA VCS

PS: didn't even bother playing GTA V.

9.5/10 because in my opinion it could've had ragdoll physics like Half-Life 2 or Halo 2 because those came in 2004 as well and better graphics. But maybe not better graphics because I actually like these graphics because they give me nostalgia :D

9.5 for sure. Besides the dumbass little bugs the game has had throughout it's time, nothing had me dissatisfied with the game. Story is great, characters are great, graphics are great for it's age, and the amount of effort is great. It's .... GREAT!

Yes, but the annoying glitches (in the original PS2 version) that made some missions a real pain-in-the-ass (Snail Trail) are gone. The remastered version plays much smoother.

I think the question has to factor in the coming-up-on 15 years old this game is. So the thread question is a little loaded. Because it asks how we would rate San Andreas now. Meaning if San Andreas were released, in its current 2004 form, with PS2 graphics, a much lower budget than a modern GTA, and missions that could not be nearly as sophisticated as today's GTA missions. Obviously, that score would have to be insultingly low. The game is just too low tech, low res, and unsophisticated to even be rated next to any of today's games. But this is not the fault of the game or Rockstar. 15 years before San Andreas, it was 1989. Think about it. 15 years before San Andreas, people were still playing Atari consoles and Commodore 64's, though they were replaced by the newer NES and the brand new Sega Genesis. lol Windows was brand new, with two games, Soltaire and Minesweeper.

Imagine if, in 2004, people started threads like, "How would you rate Tetris today?" That is kind of, sort of, what we are being asked to do. San Andreas, is, in a sense, the 2019 Tetris. All the 3D Era GTA games are. And that isn't a dig on GTA or Rockstar. Tetris is a classic game from a little before 15 years San Andreas. Actually, Tetris may not be totally fair, because it came out in 1984. But I think my point is clear.

On topic, I rate San Andreas 9.5/10 but that is only graded on a historical curve and what it meant to me personally, as well as to the entire gaming industry when it released, and still remains one of my favorite games.
