  1. 1. How would you rate GTA IV now?

    • Between 8 to 10 (I love GTA IV and voting here proves I'm not a child with taste for fine video games)
    • Between 5 to 7 (Good game, but not really a fan)
    • Between 3 to 4 (Don't like it and I have no taste)
    • Between 0 to 2 (I'm a troll and should stick to playing crappy video games instead)

still a straight 10 for me.

The level of immersion, the physics, the tonality - it just never gets old.

Oh and the whole script is so bloody brilliant! The dialogue in IV is so damn funny, I still crack up when I hear the conversations between Niko and Vlad for example. Or Packie

Yea it's amazing, I never skip a single dialogue in this game no matter how many times I replayed it, I can hear all the characters speak for hours and hours and not get bored. Excellent dialogue and good voice actors that actually fit the characters.

Look man I think it was pretty mediocre compared to the rest gta games. I consider it as the weakest of the series but I respect that it's many people's fav. I ve finished it once a long time ago and I've given it many tries but I just get so bored. In my opinion one thing that downgraded it was that they tried to make it TOO realistic that the realism ended up killing the game. The lack of activities and that Grey dull tone doesn't make it any better

Each to their own.

I always respect for who may not necessarily like GTA IV, but can respect others for it being their favourite. Atleast it's better than coming in hot and heavy with an attitude like some GTA IV haters have.

Still an amazing in 2020 with great visuals. Wasn't a huge fan of the game as I never had it on my PS3. PC was the only platform I played it on. Great setting, plot, relatable protagonist and a great map to explore. The city was too dark for me and I used to run it with an autumn mod and a modified timecycle to get the brightness in check. What still bothers me is the sh*tty optimization till date. EFLC is far better and even at 75+FPS the game runs sh*t for me on high settings (at times), even though I've hardware capable of running RDR2 at 1080p. It's a shame that Rockstar never around to fix it.

It's a shame the PC port wasn't that good. I've only played it on PS3 and 360 (Which makes me the complete opposite;)), but the impression I've always had is GTA IV's a nightmare to run on a decent PC .

Tell me about it. I wanted to port the TBOGT graphics & textures to GTA IV at a point and make it playable somewhat but that's another scrapped idea due to lack of time and effort these days. Too bad that Rockstar killed the Online platform. Pretty sure that some of us would have loved to hop on it for old times sake.

(with the exception on standing on cars) Is it more that you find it too realistic or you feel it limits you to much creatively without much replacements?

I will give vanila GTA 4 10/10 and give GTA TBOGT 20/10.

Although GTA 4 map is smaller than GTA 5, there is no boring parts in the map. It is very obvious if you look at GTA 4 map then look at GTA 5 map. In GTA 4 you can walk and observe the activities of the NPC while GTA 5 will award you with a wanted level that keeps you busy all the time. Unlike GTA 4, you cannot hop off your sport car and take a small walk around the neighborhood. Speaking about neighborhoods, all the neighborhoods have their distinct mood and feel. There is a huge difference between WestDyke, Chinatown, Hove Beach and Star Junction.

If GTA TBOGT can get 20/10, then GTA TBOGT with mods such as native trainer can boost the rating up to 30/10. With the trainer and some modding skills, you can easily bring the TLAD weapons such as Pipebombs and the assault shotgun to TBOGT. The automatic-9mm comes into handy for drive-bys if you prefer the TBOGT assault SMG that is incapable for drive-by but effective on ground combat.

Lastly, the best thing about GTA 4 is the melee physics and the ped injury animations.

I still take frequent vacations from GTA 5 and Online to visit Liberty City and re-live the glory days. I love GTA 5 but I enjoy racing and chasing through the busy streets of compact Algoquin a little more. It is just pure nostalgia for me.

Started a playthrough recently that reminded me of how much I love this game. Best GTA ever for me. You don't need endless (and useless) customization options, silly side missions, flyable planes or sh*tty jetpacks to have a decent, reality-grounded crime story. I just wish the PC port was handled with care, otherwise it would be perfect.

9/10

The Time Ranger

I've probably replied to this before but whatever. I'd give it a 10/10.

The story is dark, gritty and engrossing with excellent voice acting and memorable characters. Combat is satisfying with dynamic physics which still hold up, and make gunplay punchy and impactful, driving is a touchy issue but I like it, it's easy to get used to, but has some depth to it, this makes mastering the different cars a fun endavour.

The map is densly detailed with each area having a distinct look and vibe, and doesn't look like a samely grey mass which could happen with a map that's nearly all city, two great dlcs which give us control of two well fleshed out protagonists, giving us different perspectives on life and crime in LC. 50+ missions for the price of a handful of cars in GTAO.

It's not a perfect game, but there is no perfect game, the fact that I first played it in 2013 and have save files from then up to 2018 says a lot, the fact that I'd seriously consider buying a used PS3 just to play it again, over buying V for my PS4 says a lot, I don't mean to sh1t on V, it's not a bad game, but for me IV was Rockstars Magnus Opus.

Honestly it wasn't until just a few days ago did I finally, TRULY appricieate this game. Reason? I stopped playing it like the old GTA's/SR's. My problem is I never run through the story fully and always get side tracked for months while in GTA IV (and V, and III/VC) I get to bored for a bit than I play the missions begrudgingly, but now I can appreciate the immersive movie crime drama but I also came in terms that because of this it can NEVER be my favorite or only GTA type game. This is because personally I just NEED side a varied objectives having to deal with crime within the sandbox. I also just desire diversity in general. But I still think GTA IV could have delivered its side content better and ease up on always sticking to the theme. But I really, really don't want the next gta to be like this. It just... lacks to much to be an "ideal" GTA. GTA IV is much better as a game of "exception" to a formula. Like the Resident Evil IV of the old school Resident Evil games (except REIV is actually my favorite lol). There's a missing bridge between the old style and the new style that hasn't fully been established to date (by both GTA and RE)  Think finding a character, setting, and story that can tell such a powerful and moving piece that still allows for a lot of gameplay diversity while balancing with character (so substantially less limitations than GTA IV where matching clothes and customizing cars and competing in races don't come off as "out of character" to either the character or even the story it's trying to tell please; RDR2 actauuly does a superb, no... FANTASTIC job of what I'm talking about)

edit: the combat really isn't as satisfying as I would like judging by today standards for a plethora of reasons and many stuff is cluckier and less responsive than it needs to be even for a game trying to emphasize weight. Overall my rating is still a 9.25 maybe even a 9.repeating 3

I agree after Niko has some Cluckin Bell everything becomes noticeably more “cluckier” because cluckity f*ck what’s up?😛😛😛

I shouldn't have chuckled at that.. but here I am. They don't call him Niko BELLic for nothing though

in all seriousness though Niko is still my favorite protagonist but I REALLY like Michael as a character but not so much as a person while Luis is almost flipped as he's pretty neat as a character but could be better but I really playing him and his personality.

Admittedly it’s not the fastest combat ever, BUT it is satisfying when you round house kick or spinning back hand a poor fool.

No GTA really has fighting mechanics  on the same level compared to games where it’s more of a central mechanic, but GTA IV’s are awesome for what they are IMO.

I wish I can combine the smoothness, face pace-ness, and rawness of GTA VCS and everything cool about it with all the cool RED ARMY sh*t of GTA IV and the complexity/intensity of it. Hell that's what TLAD SHOULD of had.

But I really and I mean REALLY REALLY hate that the moment you have 2+ people on you, your probably going to die. Just goes against GTA's gameplay and shootouts so much. Funny enough I was actually fighting 3 people the other day and the only reason I won was because I grabbed their knife in a counter and sliced and diced them like it was nothing. It would have been far easier if he just didn't pull the knife out. 😂😅

That’s one of the things I love about it. It’s possible to die from NPCs ganging up and it’s oh so sweet when you kick their arses and escape with a slither of health left.😀

Oh GTA IV in general does the whole "slither of health" thing best out of practically any game in the series. There's just something about it that keeps the intensity in an immersive way that you can't just help but  feel anxious and pull out the whole deck of cards to stay alive.

It's a solid 10. Not as solid as VC, SA and V are for me personally, but still legendary. It's what they call ''A flawed masterpiece". It also has to be one of if not the most gracefully aged games out there. It still holds up perfectly well and all the subsequent major Rockstar titles were built on its foundation.

So is your scale out of 11 or...?

I love all the major GTA games to death. Very unique and meticulously crafted. I'd still rather play GTA 3 than most modern open-world games.

You know what would be sweet? A good/interesting Watch Dogs game or Sleeping Dogs sequel.

Like a solid 9.5. Seriously, one of the all time greats. There's something about IV that stick to me that other GTA games dont have(maybe except VC). Idk I just love the artwork, soundtrack, characters, mature story, and the overall dark vibe the game has. Whenever I think about GTA, IV and VC instantly come to mind.

Another person with this great combination of GTA games.

It’s funny because GTA IV and Vice City really don’t share a lot in common regarding their tone, theme, atmosphere etc yet they both still tick all the right boxes.

I would also throw GTA III into the mix too. These three games are GTA to me through and through.
