  1. 1. How would you rate GTA IV now?

    • Between 8 to 10 (I love GTA IV and voting here proves I'm not a child with taste for fine video games)
    • Between 5 to 7 (Good game, but not really a fan)
    • Between 3 to 4 (Don't like it and I have no taste)
    • Between 0 to 2 (I'm a troll and should stick to playing crappy video games instead)

GTA IV is not a game, it's a emotion.

Those feeling while you are driving around in the city, some minutes before the sunrise and with this on the radio...

GTA IV is pure magic.

Agreed. The atmosphere of this game is unlike anything else before or since. All the echoes of memories in multiplayer free roam with friends who are all long gone by now, learning every nook and cranny of the map, every corner becoming a landmark.

I've been waiting for them to add that song to Spotify for years. :^:

it’s funny because the game took years to grow on me I was 10 years old when Gta iv came out and the story seemed like it was for the much older audience  Niko Bellic was a very serious and boring character and the game seemed like it was trying to be way too realistic i was playing saints row 2 while gta iv was out because it reminded me a lot of San Andreas the fun factor is what I was looking forward too in a open world video game at 10

About 2014 is when I loved Gta iv but it’s has its flaws also but I didn’t really wanna spend too much time going in on them so I’ll rate it gta iv 8/10 and it’s my favorite gta  in the series no gta is perfect at all even SAN ANDREAS

10/10

This is the GTA I used to play the most. I didnt even had original game and played just single player for hundred of hours. Driving around and doing stunts and killing cops. Haha, good old times...

10/10 - Storyline, Atmosphere of the game, it gives you that feeling that your in NYC, the map itself, the expansions that were added to GTA4 which was TBOGT and TLAD were good as well. I think this game has more pros and less cons imo, since it's a fun game to play  Online is a blast also, 10x times better then GTA 5 online, where it's not about the money, it's just about the crazy and memorable fun especially in free mode.

9.5 or 9.75/10. My favorite in the series. I love the city, the atmosphere, the story, the protagonist, the missions, the combat, the driving, the physics and all the small details. It's not perfect, I acknowledge it has some flaws like side missions could have been more rewarding, driving could be a bit tighter, ragdolls could have been slightly less exaggerated and cover system more responsive (but at least there's still crouching!). But it is the most perfect GTA experience for me.

Last night I decided to start the decade in Hove Beach. Just the same as the last.

If you had told me in 2010 that I'd not only be playing this sh*t 10 years later, but that it'd still be peak GTA I would've thought you were f*cking with me.

Started my 4th playthrough in September and this one was done as realistically as possible.

Didn't steal any cars unless it was for Brucie or Stevie, took cabs and subways or simply walked to my mission markers. Not shooting the civilians or cops outside of missions, went to fast food joints to replenish health, called 911 or Carmen to get treatment. Unlocking girl and friends abilities as soon as possible, they come in handy in so many missions, especially Dwayne's boys.

At the end I've split story into two before the big choice making one where Niko just completes everything, gets his American dream and lives in peace.

The second is where Roman gets the bullet, that drives Niko insane and he becomes a vigilante with his FIB Buffalo and eradicates criminals in LC.

Took me 5 months to get to 100% this way, but it showed the true beauty of this game. A different pace, that Niko isn't this vicious killer that mows down everything and kills hoes. He's a damaged individual who's driven by revenge, and does what he does to get closer to the truth of who betrayed him and just living his life. Listening to his conversations with Packie or Dwayne fleshed that out, thus making the rating at a strong 10/10 or a must play if we don't put numbers on it.

I’d say a 7 from me because, while it is good and nostalgic and quite ahead of its time, there’s jack sh*t to do after the story other than repetitive MOST WANTED or car thefts from Stevie.

I don't know what people do in other GTA games after the story though? In every GTA game including IV after the story means going around the city messing with people/going on shooting sprees/getting in police battles and stuff like that for me. There's nothing from other games that I'm like oh man I wish I could do that because none of them really have a lot of activities to do after the story that you'd want to do repeatedly. What are the main activities that are missing?

V at least had an engaging multiplayer if you’re playing with friends and VCS as much sh*t as I give it had empire building.

Yea IV had multiplayer too and it was amazing for its time but it’s dead and we’re back to square one.

That's fair, I never cared for multiplayer but it's true V offers the most continuing stuff to do there. As far as single player I don't think any of them have a huge amount of different stuff to do after the story though. The only repeating side mission that holds up really well imo is gang wars in TLAD/drug wars in TBOGT. Most side missions through the series are like, you do them once for 100% and it's done. So I've never understood what's supposed to be missing from IV's single player that's such a big deal.

Gang/drug wars were fun the first few times but it just got repetitive after the fifth time. The rising difficulty factor doesn’t change the fact that it’s still the same go here-kill people-leave formula all the time

Yeah but like, that's what's fun to do in GTA. I just wonder which single player activities the other games have that GTA IV doesn't that are so great? Cuz people say GTA IV has nothing to do after the story compared to the others and I don't get it.

I'd say fun in GTA IV depends on your imagination.

Call Dwayne and get his boys, drive to a Civilization Committee (UN Building) get a 4 star wanted level and start some trouble.

Or just walk with them around gang neighborhoods and soon you'll be at the center of drama with gangs and cops alike, do some street races, play pool with Jacob and smoke a dime for real listen to Massive B and chillout. What else...

Go on dates with Alex and read her blog lmfao as they use to say, take a heli tour, wash your Willard, play darts, get wasted with Packie or call your cousin and...

I agree. But I think the same applies to other GTA games after the story is finished too. You use your imagination and mess around. It's still a mystery what all these millions of things to do in the other games are that IV is supposed to be lacking? Like, changing your clothes or car or repeating tedious side things like vehicle challenges or ambulance missions aren't things that give hours of entertainment after finishing the game.

Im probably the only IV fan who understands what some people mean by “empty”. They mean to say “the game offers the same stuff we did in the whole story, and this time we do it without an acual story.” I don’t agree there is nothing to do, but the game doesn’t offer many vehicles and weapons to the player like some other titles which means you’ll have the same kind of stuff you did in the whole story. An example is, when you fight cops on a bridge and want to jump, but cannot do so due to the fact you can’t use a parachute as niko.

I always bumped into something in V’s world more. The world wise i don’t agree with some other gta IV fans, the world may look alive but the player has too little interaction with it. Same for V, a bit.

And yes, Gta O has the best gameplay.

Honestly the thing I liked the most about GTA Online was the prospect of running your own business and being involved in it. Start up a motorcycle club, buy some properties to cook meth or grow weed from, build that up and sell it, all while doing contracts to keep money coming to your club. It was a great concept, just a shame that it's part of GTA O itself, where the good features are hidden behind a paywall and griefers.

Some kind of involved enterprise system where you're actually engaging in the business at hand instead of just making all your decisions from a cell phone to a """""manager""""" is an excellent way to give any game longevity.

GTA IV: 6/10

  • weak protagonist and interesting side characters
  • all over the place story
  • weak resolution

GTA TLAD: 7/10

  • much more solid story
  • almost comically edgy
  • Billy Grey is a great villain

GTA TBoGT: 8/10

  • finally balances grit with fun
  • Luis is a great straight-man
  • Yusmir
