Do you guys think the lack of Dialogue between Rockstar and their fans is starting to become an issue?

I mean every studio has a front figure and a community except for Rockstar, I have no idea who Rockstar is who their community manager is or if they even have one. Who their PR spokesperson is and i believe its really starting to show, cause any dialogue is a two way stream and i think rockstar is very distant from their fans and it shows in their games. I did not like RDR2. It has some serious issues and I think for the first time Rockstar is in trouble and if they are not going to listen to their fans and their constructive criticisms they will go the way of the dodo. Its time to start listening and start creating a dialogue and a community.

Hmmm nice bike

If you ask me, even though I don't think Rockstar is in any kind of trouble as a company for this, I still think it's always been kind of an issue. From what I've read about the company from former employees, the people running it love to maintain a "mystique" around the company like if they're still an edgy, underground group of developers. Maybe that would have been true 20 years ago, but today I don't think it makes any sense to keep this up. It just makes the company seem arrogant and (like you said) distant from fans outside of the occasional Q&As on the Newswire (which have also not given correct information sometimes, iirc, which could point to there not being much communication between whoever does the Newswire posts and who can actually answer some of these questions).

I don't think it would hurt them at all if they had a little more interaction besides that and liking whatever tweets praise their games. By comparison, Volition (developers of Saints Row) had great interaction with fans. Their own employees have accounts on the fan forums and post frequently and are willing to answer whatever questions they can. They also did Twitch streams showing off old beta builds of their games (including a canceled game) and talking about the development processes while answering questions from people in the stream. You'd never see Rockstar do anything like that, but at this point, if they feel like they don't have to, they aren't going to.

I wouldn't want a developer to be "too" close to the fans because it would also have its own issues BUT I miss Asked and Answered so much. It showed that R* actually cared and paid close attention to the fanbase and their main concerns.

I believe R* looked at us as fans and consumers until GTA O but after that, I believe they consider us as consumers alone. I think they've forgotten their loyal fanbase from the 00s but it isn't surprising. The world is full of tales about people/groups who became so successful and forgot where they started from.

A bit of interaction between developers and fans is necessary, but for a fanbase as large as something such as Grand Theft Auto it will be impossible to please everyone. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV are arguably the most polarising games in the GTA series because of different tastes. Those who like over-the-top action and huge amounts of content will love San Andreas, while those who love more realistic and darker, grittier takes will love GTA IV. Granted though, GTA Online has become so ridiculous to a point of me wondering if you could pass off it's latest mode as Rocket League Remastered. However, Red Dead Redemption II gives many of us hope that Rockstar hasn't lost their touch. It's not a perfect game, but it's a modern masterpiece that won four awards at the Game Awards. Only reason it didn't get Game of the Year was because of another masterpiece that was out longer winning the award. The fact it took that though gives me a little faith.

It's all well and good to not like RDR2, but I wonder if you actually realise that you're only really part of a minority of people (at least at this point in time). The game has received almost nothing but praise since release and has blown many away, so the fact you think it's a sign that Rockstar is in trouble is a bit odd to say the least. Yes, it's sales pale in comparison to GTA V which has sold over 100 million copies (though it's had five years to do so, and thus is hardly a fair comparison), but it's not as mainstream as GTA. If there's anywhere that Rockstar needs to start establishing communications with fans, it's most definitely GTA which is at a real risk of becoming too much like Saints Row. Since GTA Online did so well, there's a real chance that it will result in the next GTA going down a similar path, so unless Rockstar realises that us fans still want a good single player experience, then they may be in for some trouble.

Red Dead is doing just fine at the minute aside from online being unfinished due to being in beta. Honestly, it should never have been released at that stage, but then maybe it's Rockstar already trying to established dialogue with it's players. But Grand Theft Auto is where most of us on the forums started, and unless Rockstar start talking to us more then there's a risk we will no longer recognise the franchise we grew up with.

This thread (especially your post) is why I’m glad rockstar doesn’t interact with its community , for one as a whole , we’re somewhat toxic as a fanbase , nit pick at every single thing Rockstar does or doesn’t do & simply we’re never satisfied so to answer your question....no it’s not an issue

Yeah I think Rockstar should stop being behind closed doors. While rockstar proved with Red Dead 2 they still care about narrative they should still be open to their community.

I wish we could get more info on Bully 2 or Gta VI, because those are the games I want pretty badly. With the way they did Red Dead 2’s advertising you’d be surprised that it’s their first game in 5 years. We also need them to listen to our feedback from Gta 5, so they don’t mess it up with Gta VI. If they mess GTA VI up we probably won’t get GTA VII for quite sometime.

Well RDR2 not being good is your opinion, most disagree. And people have been talking about Rockstar being in "trouble" since at least GTA IV..not to mention looking at GTA V it's obvious they listen to criticism even if they don't interact with their fans that much. I'm sure the next GTA game will have smoother controls and probably more open levels.

RDR2 proves otherwise..I thought the same way in the past few years when they screwed over SP fans and obsessed over GTA:O but RDR2 shows clearly that they care about their loyal fanbase. People are being way too hard on Rockstar at this point

When it comes to single player they can be as mysterious and as secretive as the like, they've earned that trust. The issue for me is GTAO and RDO, two on-going online games which are games where you need a line of communication between the devs and players. Road maps, plans, reasons why X/Y/Z was changed, their thinking on the current state of the game, etc etc. For GTAO and RDO so far we have to read between the lines to get an idea of what they're actually thinking and that isn't how you run a game like RDO/GTAO, it leads to a whole lot of confusion and sometimes disappointment.

Rockstar is over man, I can't stand to play let alone look at either of their current games anymore. It'll be years till they get out of this ever deepening hole they dug for themselves
