Things from RDR not included in RDR2 you miss?

Did they really have to exclude the gunsmiths in Blackwater and Armadillo? Seriously, if you want to go to one, and your at Beecher's Hope. you need to go all the way to Tumbleweed or Strawberry.

Or not putting a f*cking trapper in the entire New Austin state.

It's kind of sad to think that RDR 2 doesn't have all the features from the first title. I don't mind that you cannot buy properties because it wouldn't fit the concept of this game, but things like the more peaceful law are missed. I guess they took away all that stuff so this title cannot "replace" the original game. To make you feel like playing the original Red Dead.

Biggest gameplay disappointment was the lack of duels for me. And when I finally was called out for a duel the other guy dropped down from being drunk.

You know you can start a dual with almost anyone? You just stand there and antagonize then slowly, and i mean slowly push down on the right trigger to go into dual mode. I think it only works with guys with guns, but most guys carry guns in RDR 2

The ambient music. Just listen to this. And those trumpets in Mexico were mesmerizing.

The main thing I miss from RDR1, is when you wore a bandana and you did a crime, you wouldn't lose honor, that was such a cool mechanic.

Oh and obviously the music, Mexico, and Liar's Dice.

The western feel. I understand what R* was shooting for, but such a small portion of the map was actually the wild west. I mean hell, roanoke ridge is based off west virginia. they made a mistake cutting out Mexico imo

Jobs, repeatable bounties, actual good multiplayer experience. Normal targeting (not that bs reticule shaking in free aim) weapons, Landon Ricketts, John Marston's hair, undead nightmare (pretty hopeless at this point), bank robberies, trains highlited on map, arm wrestling, liar's dice, hideouts (like they were in rdr1) and most importantly MEXICO...how the hell could they release a western game without the most western part in there

yup, that western feel from the original is rarely present in RDR2.

I don't remember any bank robberies... certainly not the single player bought at launch.

What I miss most is the f*cking poncho. We should've received a poncho for killing Flacco... instead of another cattleman.

bank robberies were like an optional side activity

Saying that rdr2 didn't have a western feel is just ridiculous. Sure I agree that New Austin is underutilized, but the western genre isn't limited to the West Texas/New Mexico landscape. By that same logic Sergio Leone films aren't really westerns, since they were filmed in Spain.

Not speaking in general, just my perspective. The whole New Orleans/St.Denis just didn't do it for me. Lack of prominent ambient music didn't help either. Ambient music was prominent in RDR 1, maybe that's why it felt more western to me.

Online is even worse in regards of western feel. It feels like GTA with horses.

Fair enough, but saying you didn't like the artistic direction of RDR2 is not the same as saying "this game doesn't look like a western". I also prefer the music of the first game because it had that Morricone style to it, but the soundtrack in rdr2 is awesome too.

well, after Blackwater robbery they decided to head east rather than west, first 6 chapters are based around that, they faced civilization, Pinkertons etc. so it's definitely not a classic western, just has some elements. But I consider that a good thing, because most people percieve wild west through western movies which are full of cliches, and I definitely didn't want another ripoff of a movie - it already happened with GTA Vice city.

I cant agree with you, the "twilight of the old west " and "civilization vs wilderness" themes have been explored in a lot of movies and books in the western genre.  RDR2 does nothing new in terms of the narrative.

Oh!

One thing that drove me crazy was that hammers were up during cutscenes. Look at any cutscene in RDR1, and the revolvers are actually cocked.

So annoying to see Arthur taking Miliken hostage with a gun that won't shoot, or John and Dutch having their hammers up in a standoff. The whole time I was thinking these guys are using uncocked guns.

Look at the guy furthest to the left. His hammer is down.

Everyone's hammer is up, as with every cutscene.

Just want to say, apparently rockstar fixed this in American Venom. You now cock your gun in the last stand-off.
