Things from RDR not included in RDR2 you miss?

Recommended Posts

I think we can all mostly agree that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a vast improvement over its predecessor and this isn't taking nothing away from Red Dead Redemption as it's still a great game, but what are some of the things about it you miss that aren't included in Red Dead Redemption 2?

For me the are a few things here and there, but probably the most major one is limb incapacitation. This is so immediately obvious during bounties when you want to keep a bounty alive, but unlike Red Dead Redemption where you could shoot someone in the leg or something to slow them down here it's just like GTA V (🙄). You shoot someone in the arm, leg etc and they just die and it's annoying.

It's the probably the one thing I'd give a black mark against in terms of gunplay as everything else is top notch.

Liar's dice.

Also infinite bounty hunter missions. It's cool to have the bigger ones but the quick, infinite ones from RDR1 were fun as well.

i miss all the guns that were not brought back.

the high power pistol

buffalo rifle

evans repeater

lemat revolver

and the blunderbuss

also i miss mexico. i really liked that map and it would have been nice to have it again. i also miss some of the characters from that part of the story.

i also miss some of the gangs. like waltons gang or the new van der linde gang. i even miss the mexican army. they were fun to kill after seeing how crappy they treated people.

and i think the thing i miss most of all is the cannons from the first redemption. sure they have cannons in rdr 2. but they are different and handle differently. they are slower to move and they seem harder to kill people with. in rdr 1 i was a pro with that cannon. a great shot. this one seems harder to use. not impossible. but i wish they would have just brought back the old cannons. i cant even count the hours and days i would be at el presidio just killing all the army that charged like idiots. and even other players that dared to challenge an expert artilleryman like me. i miss that.

but in all rdr 2 is still an amazing game. and it has stuff i wish the first redemption had.

I miss the stagecoach being able to take you to waypoints and being a playable during journeys.

Like you said, NPC's don't limp or crawl like in RDR1.

I miss Euphoria that were used when you was drunk, like in GTA 4, it is hilarious.

Robbing bank too.

There is also the wanted/witness system that IIRC was not as exaggerated as in RDR2 where witnesses report crime in the wilderness in 20 secondes.

The option to shoot your own horse.

I know that many people will be like: but why would you wanna do that? Well the answer is simple, because sometimes I just want to!

Or it pisses you off lol

I remember getting mad the first time my horse tripped and even madder when I found out I couldn't shoot it for failing me 😂

-Blindfiring

-Fast Traveling via personal camp

-Pardon Letters

-Throwing throwables while crouching

-Ponchos

-Better cover system

-RDR's duel system

-Better freedom during missions and in interiors

-More peaceful NPCs and law

-Saving via sleeping.

Also I wish New Austin was the setting for Chapter V instead of Guarma. It would help the "western" theme and also could make more sense.

The bounty system. I miss not being attacked by a squad of bounty hunters 7 times in a 24 hour cycle.

Agreed, way too many bounty hunters come after you in a very short time period between the last ones. A bit unrealistic really... also there should be instances when just the odd 1 bounty hunter will come after you rather the normal 7/8 and 3 bloodhounds every single time.

I cannot think of anything other than Liar's Dice.

I already anticipate some users to say Nuevo Paraiso, but remember that it'd have served no purpose to the story unless R* used it for Chapter 5 instead of Guarma, which I'd have truly preferred.

Yeah and they spawn to you even in the worst environments like the mountains in Ambarino. Why the f*ck would they even bother going there?

Not many.

-Liar's dice.

-Nuevo Paraíso.

-LeMat revolver and Blunderbuss.

-Horses being less squeaky (not as robotic as in 1, tho).

-Fast travel via small camp.

-Bobcats.

Definitely the repeatable mini games and procedural bounty system, it made the world a bit more interesting and interactable even if not all of them were fun.

As other smart, intelligent people have said, Liars Dice.

Also the ability to take fast travel and not have the journey skipped, that was a thing in RDR1 right?

Liar's Dice, of course.

But I really hate not being able to fast travel from your makeshift camps. The worst example of this happened just last night; I did the mission with Sadie at Hanging Dog Ranch, late in chapter 6, and afterwards she leaves me there, and the next mission is all the way back at Beaver Hollow, practically the other side of the map. It just ruined the flow of trying to do 2 or 3 missions in a row.

Worse still, I get to the nearest station and it says "Trains are unavailable" and I don't know if that was a glitch or if it's because

Spoiler

you blow the bridge and trains are unavailable after that part in the story?

Also not being able to fast travel to a waypoint is disappointing. But it's not as if I want to avoid riding, I find myself riding just because its fun all the time, but sometimes I like to spend 2 or 3 hours exploring, then spend 2 or 3 hours doing story, and the game sometimes punishes me for trying to keep things moving.

In Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, you actually got to see the history of a lot of the gangs. (E.g the Diablos, the Hoods, or the Sharks/Streetwannabes). They could have easily done that here too.

They could have given us the Walton's Gang, Bollard Twins and Treasure Hunter gang hideouts. It wouldn't have conflicted with the Del Lobos either, since they had Armadillo and Fort Mercer.

Would have liked to see the patrol missions you did at McFarland Ranch make a return. Maybe set it in camp?

Liars dice was one of the best things on red dead

also on TDM when you were all in a pre lobby and could have a brawl before the match started

how easy it was to find a hideout online

ranking up online to get the bull to ride

mexico! Loved that part of the map

  • Liar's Dice
  • Cheating at poker to initiate a girl duel
  • Gameplay inviting roping animals
  • Panchos
  • The updated versions of previous outfits  (like the Deadly Assassin)
  • Fast Travel to points
  • Herb maps
  • Wearing gang outfits to avoid or infiltrate gangs.
  • Armadillo's sheriff
  • A decent experience in Thieves' Landings
  • All the missing RDR1 interiors for buildings present in RDR2.
  • Friendly camps.  95% of people with camps threaten you.
  • I miss the idea of Horseshoes.  I absolutely don't miss how they played though.

Some meta things:

  • STATS.  No idea why these where not included.
  • LOGS.  So many times I missed some message and wanted to see what it was.
  • More Outfit reward to achievements.  Is Legend of the East the only outfit reward to achievement?
  • A less empty New Austin. The whole region is a ghost town.

Oh yeah about the outfits. I kinda miss the challenges required to complete a special outfit. I know in Red Dead Redemption 2 clothing customisation is a lot deeper, but it would've been cool if there were still some special outfits to unlock. I always liked those in Red Dead Redemption.

I Like Fun

Repeatable bounties and maybe fast travel anywhere from camp in the wilderness. Don't care about that last one but it seems like a common complaint.
