MEd keeps crashing when trying to load maps

Recommended Posts

inkoalawetrust

Just a few hours ago i downloaded MEd to mess around with it on the maps of GTA 3 and GTA: SA but every time i try to load the map of GTA: SA the program freezes the moment it tries to load Audiozon.ipl or CountryN.ipl and whenever i try to open the map of GTA III it crashes when trying to load props.ipl.

Im pretty sure im doing something wrong but i don't know what it is so can someone help me fix this issue ?

Added a link to the page the GTA Mod wiki has for MEd.

Other than running with compatibility mode or checking that your game's directory is not read only, it's not very likely that you'll find a solution. MEd is very old and had always been kind of unstable

Well for some reason i can't remove the read only attribute from the San Andreas folder to see if that's the problem and removing the attribute from Audiozon.ipl (Something that i can do for some reason despite not being able to do it on the game directory itself.) does nothing and MEd still crashes when attempting to load the file so i can''t know if the issue is because of the read only attribute or not.

Are there any other programs like MEd that i don't know of ?

No other map editors exist for SA. There’s aap’s euryopa, but it’s only a map viewer for the time being (you place this at the game’s root folder and run)

http://aap.papnet.eu/gta/utils/librw_bin/euryopa.exe

About the read-only attribute, just right click on the folder of the game and untick “read only”. Click ok and select “all subdirectories and files” or something like that. To be safe, copy the entore game folder to another place (desktop for example)

I already tried that and it did not work and also tried the things described in this thread and they did not work either.

Also you said euryopa is only a map viewer for the time being, does that mean it's still in developement and if yes where is the forum thread for it ?

Also euryopa works just fine (Presumably since it's only a map viewer so it only reads data from the game directory).

I don’t think there’s a thread for it. The author is doing cool stuff for renderware and gta and he wanted to make it a map editor at sometime, not working on it atm.

I managed to get MEd to work properly by making it run in Windows 2000 compatability mode through the .exe properties but it still seems to crash when trying to do things like using the folder browser to find a GTA installation and add it on the installation list and the only way to add new entries or modify existing ones is to open the program without compatability mode and do whatever you have to do then try to open a map and have the program crash and THEN open it with compatability mode on again and use it.

At least the program actually works though.
