Red Dead Online Next Updates Speculation Thread

All fair points, so how do they fix the economy?  That's the question that I don't have a good answer to.  And I do agree things are ludicrously overpriced just to make people play more to get them

Next update will be wild life focused which is why I'm positive that Rockstar will fix the animal spawns.

What does this mean? I thought the Trader was already wildlife focused. Or will they introduce legendary animals, special challenges to get certain fur etc. or photography of wildlife?

Thanks for the info nonetheless.

You have more confidence in them than me, mate. A former update was focused on wildlife too, but broke it. We haven't seen a decent fix after 4-5 months yet.

It would be a good idea to add more animals like cars in GTAO, they could act as possible mounts and companions...add legendary hunts that are more detailed...require the use of bait...possible tracking such as foot prints that are visible, and attacks by the animals that are a bit more challenging, limit the types of weapons that can be used on the missions.

Possible hunts in Guarma to add exotic animals..such as lions, tigers, elephants, anacondas, corcodiles.  Obviously, these are "immersion breaking" but at this point...the game has been so broken and progressed past "immersion" adding speedy movement, adding cards that allow for unlimited health, adding missions with gatling guns on wagons, adding a shack with a basement the size of a large warehouse with modern structure and intricate decorations/large groups of people inhabiting the space 24/7....why not?

Role ideas:

  • Animal photography
  • Hunter (why yes, it's vastly different from the Trader role *cough*)
  • Veterinarian
  • Animal tamer
  • Animal rights activist/Animal cruelty investigator
  • Poacher
  • Rabbit breeder
  • Paleontologist

I want to have the faith that animals spawns will be fixed--I really do--but Darth Vader's chastisement keeps echoing in my mind.

The Hunter role could have us hunting legendary animals and work similar to the legendary bounties. Or maybe even spend some time in free roam tracking them down. It could work similar to Monster Hunter, finding tracks which fill up a bar which eventually leads us to an area where the legendary animal is. Though this might have several people going to one place, leading to trolls and large shootouts.

It's still a great idea, I'd love it.

Plus, if it paved for the way for the Trapper (or some form of that role) being added to online, all the better.

And it could explain that house in Strawberry that has those taxidermy animals in the front and back yard. You could hunt animals for trophies and stuff, get parts for different talismans, and maybe some really neat clothing items, like in Story mode.

Thanks for that info Fun, it’s very much appreciated.

Now I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but when we had an update (Frontier Pursuits) focused on camps they didn’t bother to fix the camp spawns.

They didn’t fix the camp spawns until the following update (Moonshiners), which didn’t focus on camps.

They really need to fix the animal spawns though, it’s not just a focus of a role, it’s a focus of the entire game. They have an open world that’s currently lifeless.

Photography would be f*cking boring.

I swear, why do people even want that more than robbing banks, stealing from stores, robbing trains, etc? This is a cowboy game, let us do cowboy things. Not Photography class!

  • Fisher -- it's a major ecosystem not used in Roles yet.  Plus you could have a camp add-on as a canoe if the position is next to a body of water.
  • Photography -- at some point, and it doesn't have to be all nature related.  It can be photograph people to blackmail them or identify them.  Essentially Detective with a Camera.

Although... I do have to wonder why they haven't done anything with Robbing Banks or Trains.  Outlaw by itself could be a major role.

What about Railroad Baron or Ship Master... you control the shipping lanes and tracks.  You build up an NPC crew so you don't have to drive them and you can roam the moving vehicle to protect the travel from raids.

I'd really like fishing to be either part of a new role or an extension of an existing one. Something to progress through that would be difficult for R* to break would be welcome.

I'm really hesitant about a wildlife photography role. If animal spawns remain broken, break again in future or are even hit and miss, it will be such a ball ache to progress through. We'll be spending so much of our time changing sessions or in Legendary Bounties trying to get animals to spawn.

I also worry about the longevity of such a role. I mean, I know all the roles are rinse and repeat, the same missions over and over, but really, how many times is going to North Roanoke to take a photo of a Moose, never mind all the lobby hops to get a spawn even when animal spawns are working, going to remain interesting?

I enjoy in game photography, but I really can't see much milage in such a role, it would just be another role I get to rank 20 and drop.

True, though if animal spawns do get fixed properly, then it will be nice to shoot one, be it by gun or by camera.

I also wonder, if Legendary Animals make an appearance, could they have an impact on Trader?

Like, if you supply a Legendary Panther carcass, would that give you 100/100 supplies immediately or something.

There could be a nice way to tie the roles together

Yeah, this one is so straight forward that it'll get patched in no time.

To be honest, it's much better to get the Photographer role this early than delaying it to mid/late 2020, the issue with animal spawns isn't a small issue, it's kind of a big deal, it might require revamping certain parts of the game that handle the spawning of wild life, such process rise as a perfect opportunity to introduce new variables for the Photographer role, because they would reach the root of the animal spawn issue which allow them to keep everything in check including the new variables.

Whereas releasing the Photographer role at a later point might end up messing animal spawns when it was already fixed prior to the introduction of the new role.

They'll either patch it, or remove animals in resupply missions and scrapping the ones you need to get an animal for first. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

edit: I did this method and it works for 4 minutes. after those first solo minutes another player joined my session. If it's only 1 joining, it's fine. I'll check how long the fun really lasts....... tbc

edit 2: Fully merged with 26 other players and lost my camp after about 10 minutes of solo freeroam. They've patched it.

close app, not touch it again till tomorrow's 1 easy daily

The worst is when you're in the middle of the skinning animation.

I always get one nice animal just standing there watching me about 20 feet away until I've just about got the pelt off, then they bound away.

Or when you're delivering supplies: I just rolled into my camp's yellow area, the daily was to skin 3 pronghorns, and what do I see?

FOUR nice little pronghorns staring at me from the middle of my camp! Little bastards!

So basically the Photographer role is pretty much confirmed now for late Match/early April.

I'm curious to see what they do with it.

March/April because of the Outlaw pass dates?

I don't think releasing an update before the end of the pass season would be a problem?

Yes, I'm basing this off Rockstars track record so far, how they handled the Updates and Outlaw Pass.

In RDO all updates had a timespan of 3 to 4 months between them. And both Outlaw Passes so far have been tied to the updates. So pass 1 came out with frontier pursuits, pass 2 with moonshiners. And both passes contained rewards that fit or benefited these roles. For example pass 2 includes many moonshiner rewards. I expect an outlaw pass for every major update and I expect every major update to have an outlaw pass that includes benefits for the new role.

So this is my thinking behind it.

But I hope the next update not only includes a photography role but also a role somehow revolved around fishing. We think they actually initially planned 2 roles for the last december update (moonshiner and maybe a naturalist role). But maybe they werent happy with the second role, or they didn't have enough time and cut it out, or they implemented it in the moonshiner or they will implement it in the next update.

Either way I hope for 2 roles this time. Photographer, Fisherman or Naturalist/Herbalist.

And based of Rockstars recent interviews I expect a role revolved around working for the law (that requires bounty hunter rank 5, similar to Moonshiner requiring rank 5 trader) and robberies for the second half of 2020 in addition to properties that exist outside of the role framework and just can be purchased for fun but may be required for robberies similar to GTAO.

Owning storefronts and railroads or mines may be something for 2021 in my opinion.

If it is a 'small' role, or one they think doesn't have much playability to it, they could drop it in Feb as a surprise update along side a bug fix. Pie in the sy dream of course.

Yeah hoping for at LEAST 1 role this time around.

I'm sure there's lots of budding photographers out there who will lap up this role, but others may have no interest in it whatsoever and I suppose it might not be fair on them to have to wait another 3 months for something worthwhile?

Disclaimer: I'm in the former camp. If they do it right and tie it in with wildlife (trapper? Pls R*, somehow?) then I'd love it

The naturalist is part of the Moonshiner role because you collect ingredients for the moonshine flavor.

Yep, do you know what they initially planned for the naturalist? I can't imagine the role was just about picking different herbs and selling them in collections.

Could it be a role similar to what the stranger encounter in story mode was?  (the guy who required our help to take pictures of animals)
